Do you feel sorry for Blake Griffin

Thu May 21, 2009 11:32 am

Now that the Clips have won the lottery I want to know if anyone feels sorry for Blake Griffin. Clipper fans forgive me but it seems like no matter who the Clips grab, they seem to turn them into crap and they leave and flourish elsewhere. Let me know what you think.

No, I don't feel sorry for someone who gets to make $5 million+ a year because he can play a sport really well.

How do they "turn into crap" when they're rookies? Who is the last All-Star calibur player they've even drafted? Michael Cage? Terry Cummings? (They traded McDyess on draft night so...)

Odom could have been an all-star if he ever played up to his potential, Kandi man was crap, Danny Manning was good but had bad knees.

A little, in so much as a top prospect could be starting out his career toiling in oblivion, but I think he'll be fine.

I dont really feel sorry for him since he's getting the opportunity to make a name for himself. Being draft by a bad team might turn out to be a good thing for him since he's guaranteed to get the playing time and opportunity. Getting draft by a better team on the other hand might reduce his chance of playing but let's not sum things up too quick. No matter what happens in the near future Griffin will still make a lot of money though.

a big resounding YES. Since he is the rookie and they play the same spot, he'd probably be playing behind Randolph. I think Blake should have the chance to start in his rookie season and be a big impact right away. The Clips already has a surplus on big men. Maybe the clips can send Randolph away or send Blake to a team that really needs him.

No.

Answering otherwise is rather pointless.

How the hell could you feel sorry for him?

I wouldn't feel bad for him if he was going to any other team besides the Clips who seem doomed to mediocrity, at least on another team there is hope, with the Clips... not so much.

as dunleavy said, they will take griffin and look to to ship randolph .
so i don't feel sorry for him, i think it's a great opportunity for him, and maybe he would be the one to lift the curse from the clippers

Why? You play basketball really well?

Of course, he could have a better place to start than LAC, but with his talent and attitude he isn't going anywhere. They just need a new coach and, please, get rid of Randolph....

No. the fact that he makes so much more money than me so I can't feel sorry for him, maybe anyone in the NBA makes more even Joel so you really can't feel sorry for anyone in the NBA. :seriouscat:

I don't entirely disagree with that sentiment but I think in context, one can empathise with an NBA player. I don't think that just because someone is well paid, they don't have the right to complain or be unhappy about something in their professional life. Putting money aside for a moment, a player who's in a bad situation with his current team is basically an employee who's not happy with his present work environment regardless of the pay, a situation to which I can certainly relate and empathise. I can't relate to the income but job dissatisfaction is job dissatisfaction, no matter what the vocation. And beyond that, they're all human same as the rest of us so I can certainly empathise or sympathise with them on issues that we all must deal with.

As far as professional basketball matters are concerned, I'd throw Jamaal Tinsley out there as an example. I don't feel entirely sorry for someone who's getting paid over $7 million a year to do very little, but he's pretty much being held hostage by the Pacers and is unable to pursue his professional career because they refuse to do anything but trade him (as if they're helping his stock at all). That's a tough situation for him to be in, life could be worse but if I were in his shoes I'd be unhappy too if I wanted to continue my playing career as it seems he does.

easy answer, no. if he is worth a damn he can make the clippers good. takes good players to attract other good players. if he sucks the clippers will continue to suck but if he is something special players will flock around him. i mean really if people feel bad for him why are the clippers even in the nba? maybe we should just cut a dozen teams right now before the draft so no one has to go into a rebuilding process?

I get what you're saying but I personally wouldn't go that far. A great player can only take a lousy team so far and the ability (or inability) to put together a more talented team goes beyond the performance of their star.

An example is the Minnesota Timberwolves during Garnett's days. Stupid Kevin McHale.

I really feel sorry for this guy considering the Clips already has many big guys in the names of Chris,Marcus,Zac , he cant get many playing minutes because of those 3

CLips might as well trade Z-BO . . .

I think there's no question that either Randolph, Camby or both will be moved this offseason. The only problem is that every team is going to sense the desperation that the Clippers have in dumping one of their bigs and they'll probably be forced to take a horrid deal from another team.

The Clips should just trade Randolph. I tell you, Griffin will get less minutes if they don't get rid of Z-Bo this off-season. :seriouscat:
