Have you tried using Software Rendering rather than Hardware Rendering in the 3D Setup options?

I believe it's worked for some people, so I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. :)

There should be a 3D Setup option in the NBA Live 2000 start menu folder, which will give you a choice between Software and Hardware Rendering. Set it to Software and see how that goes.

Ah, I thought you'd installed the game but it was crashing or not starting up. Have you been able to try out Virtual PC at all, is it still giving that error message when you try to install the game under the XP environment?

My game recently crashed two times, giving an error message that refers to dx6z.dll. That file is located in the 3rash folder.

Has anyone had this kind of problem and knows what to do about it? Thanks.

OK, via Google I found a thread on this forum.

There, someone gave the advice to download the NBA Live 2001 demo version and rename the dx7z.dll to dx6z.dll after copying that file to the 3rash folder. I hope this will work for me. I mean, I did that and the game didn't crash. However, there's no guarantee that the game will be stable.
