My career ending ( don't read if you don't want to SPOILER ALERT )

Tue Sep 29, 2015 1:12 am

So i've just watched Chris Smoove's my career ,and ... SPOILER ALERT ! After your 8 LITTLE games of rookie season, you starts your second season by being a free agent, chose your team, Vic dies bla bla bla ... the story ends, message from spike lee and casts and that's it ?? No more story ? Is this a joke? People who played season 2 is there other cutscenes about the story or it's really done ? 2K Hyped up the game for "this" ? If so, my gosh :applaud: :applaud: 2K you guys are good !

HAHA. And I wonder how much they paid Spike Lee for this garbage.

Who died? Is that the guy who took the upskirt pics of the cheerleaders in the first HS game?

Spike seemed to think people were anxious to see Spike in a basketball video game. Before you play a second, there's Spike explaining that the mode is awesome because of his involvement.

I just played 2 games in 2nd season and can say that there are from 'The Story': messages from agent, Yvette and CC, plus before the 1st game on the pre-game show they said about Ur player and that he lost his friend and after the 1st game on the press-conference they ask U about this tough first off-season. I think that we will not see any other cutscenes because Spike already introduce all staff crew that 'create this story' but I hope I'm wrong

As someone who isn't a big fan of having a storyline in the first place, having the story element of MyCAREER being relatively short isn't an unappealing notion. Less to slog through when starting over, less time to get to the stuff I would rather be doing.

Agreed though I'm all for storyline as long as

  1. It's relevant to basketball and has a direct impact on / relationship with gameplay
  2. It doesn't try to overshadow the gameplay - it's great that 2K still gave a great amount of focus to gameplay
  3. It's dynamic - that is tailored to the user based on the user's decisions ie. I don't want to be told again that I can "Be the Story" then find out it's more like "Hey Watch this story... please note it may not be relevant, entertaining or relateable.
  4. You can SKIP it - with few exceptions, 2K made this possible and I am VERY thankful for this feature - regardless of the story quality

I agree. It has value if there are branching options in the story, and especially if you can skip it. I'd like to an approach to MyCAREER that's similar to what's happened with MyGM and MyLEAGUE.

the most interesting thing is that this year the whole story directed like there should be some branching options: for example choose stay in college or not (but in this case we need another season that should be generated), choose Yvette or C-C side and depend on this Yvette brake up with Freq or C-C won't be your manager, at least for some time in each case (this and other options can be realized only through cut-scenes with minor changes in gameplay), accept or not you personal Jordan kicks (that are Nikes btw) that will increase or reduce Jordan CEO's interest in later Connections screen, accept or not Owner's ultimatum about Vic that can affect on team chemistry or contract\playing time\role maybe (or if U accept his ultimatum the team doesn't wave you and then during cutscene in the car this will be a bit different dialogs with Vic like friends and longtime brothers or ex-friends) and so on.

Because of the fact that I know 2K spent quite a bit of time, money and effort to have Spike create this story. I kinda feel sorry for 2K. As mAwA88 said, this story has to be the worst representation of any career mode to date. And it probably cost the most to date. I was under the impression that the story would be about a young basketball player learning and dealing with the realities of coming to the NBA and dealing with everything that entails. Instead we got a crappy(After School special) version of what Spike Lee thought Above The Rim should have been. With a story that has almost no connection with the game being played.

Are you going to go show off your skills at the draft combine? No. Are you going to interview agents? No. Are you going to work out for any teams that might pick you? No. Are you doing any interviews? No. Pick your first new car after that first NBA check? No. The "Living The Dream" gimmick had nothing I expected it to have. The only time I was really excited to see what came next was when Spike Lee said goodbye.

My biggest issue with the story is that it basically makes some of the achievements in the game impossible. How can you win ROY or even make a Rookie team when your player starts off so lowly rated and you only play 8 of 82 games?

I'm just thinking: if for example start new career and max up the player from the scratch will your player be in starting lineup or not? and if he will and there will be good ovl. and you'll show brilliant game during this 8 games maybe the game will simulate all other matches with approximately the same stats. and in this case is there any chance that he receives ROY award or make at least one of the rookie team? and how then your team can wave his superstar rookie because of his not so nice friend?

To be fair, that isn't one of the achievements this year, so at least they're not teasing you to achieve the impossible. But you are locked out from having it as a personal goal in the first place, obviously.

Ah, my bad. With that in mind though, I find it strange that they left Rookie of the Month in there.

It's not among the Achievements either, unless there's something I'm missing.

Only 100 VC, but I could imagine it annoying people who want to complete everything.

Well, 2K did move to be more challenging this year.

It didn't say anything for me during my "rookie season". But after my second season started I noticed I had been named to the All-Rookie 2nd Team when I looked at my "Award History" page. But then again I played MyCareer in offline mode so I could use CE to make my player a 67. 55 was just not cutting it for me. Whether it's possible to win ROY, I don't know.

I currently plan to hoard enough VC in other modes to upgrade to 80 and then start playing. That would seem to be more realistic for a top prospect.

Actually, yeah. After just a few games, it turns into a way more in depth last-gen style MC. This might actually be a great year for you to play it.

Agreed, Once the second season starts, it's a pretty good mode. I have been enjoying it, more so than last year.
