Re: NBA2K16 PC Stuttering

Anybody else find Stuttering has a alot to do with Camera settings? 2K cam (which I love to use) is unbearable after possession changes when the camera turns around. I get drops down to 45 FPS and bad stutter. Broadcast cam maintains a solid and smooth 60 FPS for me.

I find the generic broadcast (6/5) is the best smoothness wise (Y) with all the other mentioned settings.

This is the first time, since 2k7, I didn't buy an NBA 2K game. After years of bad PC port - you just get tired of it. Glad I didn't this time tho. Will wait til its $19.99 which is probably the real value of this game. :(

Hell, $20 is still too much.

I got my 2k15 for $10 from Goodwill, I'm just glad none of that money went to 2K.

You're serious? Just because some users are having issues doesn't mean all are. And they're working on fixing it. Every game is gonna have some problems here and there. And $20 too much for a game that provides potentially hundreds hours of fun? Come on. Eh whatever man.

2K16 is certainly worth 60 dollars. It's a fantastic game with fantastic gameplay.

Don't try to argue with an idiot, they'll only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

2k15 came with the same problems but they were fixed. I hope 2k don't let us down with nba 2k16!!!

What to say..my computer in short:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 960T @ 3.9 GHz
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 760 OC 2 GB
8 GB RAM @ 1333 MHz...

I was able to run 2K15 on MAX and it was very smooth (60 FPS during gameplay). This year though? I can't get 60 FPS even on medium settings! Don't tell me it changed that much..something must have gone wrong. When PG gets the ball in backcourt and the camera is close to him, I get max FPS..but when it zooms out, that's when things get messy and I have 35-40 FPS. I indeed tried all sorts of settings combinations, including in-game and nvidia control panel. This is very disappointing, but I believe the 2k are going to fix this - please do!!

@xerion I have the same GPU, the difference is mine has 4 GB of dedicated memory. My CPU is an i5 from the first generations (3,1 ~ 3,5 ghz) and I have the same problem you are talking about. I have no problems when the PG receives the ball from the inbound pass, but when it gets closer to the other paint, the game starts losing FPS. And let me guess, you have stuttering at the beginning of the game when there are cutscenes showing the lineups getting in to their position for the jumpball.

I am glad you have this kind of problem with the same GPU and a different and better CPU. It means our cards need a simple update and optimization. I strongly believe a fix will come soon.

P.S. I used the NVIDIA settings from a post here and I turned off the VSYNC and supersample in game and I have no stuttering during gameplay ( the cutscenes problem is still there). If you don't know what I am talking about PM me and I will give you the settings I am using.

For people with game stuttering issues, try alt tabbing and going to task manager and setting the NBA2K16.exe priority to Normal instead of Above Normal and see if it helps at all.

Nope, it's way worse.

You guys should try turning the Aspect Ratio setting to off.

I had severe lag as soon as 2k started and the game even crashed when I put 1080 and full screen at the same time. Completely gone now.

I tried that as well and I can't see any difference. During games I have 60FPS but it feels like game is in slow motion. Game is not laggy, almost everything is smooth but players movement is really slow. Maybe that's connected to VSync - I had to turn it off becuase game is crashing. When I watch some videos on YT it doesn't look like player movement is so sluggish - it's ok but in my game it's just horrible. It takes ages for player to accelerate. Pick&rolls and crossovers are delayed.

Here is my DxDiag and Vid Settings. Experiencing stuttering. Cutscenes and menus are flawless.

Maybe I'm paranoid with all of the other issues, but I've almost felt this as well. I can get steady 60 fps (save for when near the baselines) at bare minimum settings, but the game almost feels slow and not quite responsive enough, especially when I watch console footage for comparison. I don't know if it's related to performance or me not being used to the new foot planting/controls yet.

What work for me is going into %appdata% NBA2k16, video setting and changing msaa from 8 to 0 and super sample from 4 to 2. I play at 5k 5120x2880 resolution and these changes help the lag a lot. I feel like i shouldn't have to do these changes with a gtx titan x card but it will do until 2k or leftos work on a PC patch.

Just an update that we're still looking into this. I don't have anything specific to give you yet, but we're working on this. Thank you for all the information.

I just wanted to separate the two kinds of issues being mentioned in this thread. One is the game running at 60FPS but with noticeable stuttering and hitching, and the other one is the game running below 60FPS consistently.

To recap the workaround recommendations so far, looks like Fullscreen Windowed helps with the stuttering at 60FPS. Lowering the crowd quality setting appears to make a difference for people that can't achieve 60FPS consistently. Turning down Supersampling to the lowest allowed setting also helps.

Thanks for doing what you can to work with us, and for your transparency (at least, for being as transparent as you're allowed to be :D)

This may not be something that can be answered, but since the requirements did not change from 2k15, is it reasonable for us to expect to achieve similar performance/run at the same settings as we could for 2k15 when it's all said and done? I was content with the performance I got in 2k15, but if 2k16 is going to need to run at much lower settings for me (as it does now) then that might be what ultimately leads to a refund.

Also (and this is a question for anybody really), I've noticed that in both 2k15 (even after all patches) and 2k16 I was much more likely to have reduced framerate when near the baselines. Is this to be expected due to more taxing graphics in this area or something like that? Is this something that's directly affected by any particular setting I could lower? Thanks in advance.

Well, Like I've said. The frame rate drop issue definitely seems to be a combination of the crowd, and the audio that comes with Broadcast type atmosphere in play now. When I play scrimmage the game is flawless, zero lag in high settings. In "Play Now" with a crowd, I experience constant lag. with no crowd and the broadcast/sounds, I get drops to around 50 when the camera transitions on 2K cam, especially in bounding the ball.

Mid court, 60 fps and running like butter with no crowd.

Basically crowd is set on 'Off'. Supersampling is set on '1' because it's not possible to set on '0' (after saving it comes back every time to '1'). I get 60FPS during games but player movement is still sluggish. As You can see it's a common problem also for other gamers. I saw similair topics on a Steam forum. When I compare this to PS4 footage it's definitely not a new physics setup in 2k16.

Turning down Supersampling to the lowest allowed setting also helps.

But in game, it won't go to 0. The minimum is 1. Is this a visual bug in game if in the config file the supersample is set to 0 ?

Afaik, Supersamlping in 2k15 only goes to 1, not 0
