Why won't my 6'11" MyPlayer (Center) Dunk?

Tue Sep 29, 2015 8:19 am

So, for some strange reason I'm a big fan of creating old-school bruisers in MyCareer. I'm talking Shaq-style guys that set screens, rebound, block shots and dunk when open. In 2K14, it was great, I could do all of this and had no issue dunking off offensive rebounds and off the pick and roll or just in general being open within 5 or so feet of the hoop and just going up for the dunk.

Something happened with 2K15... although I was 7'2" with major wingspan and maxed out Athletic skills, I could only do dunks with a 2-3 step head-start when using the shot-stick. I later found that, for some reason using the Shot Button WOULD allow me to dunk from anywhere.

This year I started with similar MyCareer, but only a 6'11" guy. Had a promising start in both High School and College where he dunked with no issue from within 5 or-so feet of the rim. THEN in the NBA, it all changed. In MyCareer, I dunked for the first time today - about 12 games into my second season (I'd been playing HOF and set it to ROOKIE just to try to dunk). Even then, it only came with a 3-4 step running start.

It's kinda ridiculous seeing my guy open under the hoop off a pick and roll or offensive rebound and just throw up a reverse layup (which of course he has a low attribute score for) instead of going straight up just a two-hand dunk. I've just screen-recorded both that game and in just a few minutes of MyCareer's shootaround showing that it's impossible to do a standing dunk. Will upload to YouTube and post a link shortly.

You have to assign Dunk Packages.

Cool thanks for that, works now. I'm really surprised there's nothing setup up by default.

Though player was able to dunk in 2K15's first scrimmage even with no dunks equipped. Kinda weird.

Speaking of big dunking Centers, anyone know how to do a tip in or a tip dunk off an offensive rebound? I've only seen the cpu do it maybe 10x in 450 hrs of 2k15 gameplay and have never done it myself. Wish there was a tipout button to knock the ball far out to your teammates if you cannot outright get the board. The 'sheed special.

Put-Backs dunksshould work just like they did 2K15 -- It's all about timing, though. First, you have to get a clear running start from outside the lane when the shooter takes the shot. As you enter the lane, hold RT and hit X (or use Pro-Stick) just as the ball hits the rim and hope the ball bounces your way. If it does and there's no one in your path, you should grab it and throw it down. If there are bodies in the way, they usually box-out and completely negate any put-back attempt.

This year put-backs should be harder. It seems like 2K added weight to the ball itself, and it reacts/bounces off the rim a bit differently than last year.

Put-back layups should also work the same as last -- as soon as you touch the ball, very, very quickly tap X before your feet hit the floor. You can use the Pro-Stick to leap for rebounds, in which case flicking it again as soon as you have the rebound should perform a put-pack layup.

Sadly, I haven't had an opportunity in-game yet to do either one. I have had a couple runs for potential put-back dunks on my SF, but the shots either went in or the rebound never bounced my way. As for put-back layups as a SF, my thumb just isn't fast enough for it... Getting old sucks.

I suppose we could actually practice this stuff in a private MyCourt game with friends... That could be fun!
