He can't be trying to sell his tool to 2K. That doesn't even make any sense. Why would 2K buy a tool from some random coder? It's not as if they need any features from his tool. It's their game, they're fully capable of opening their own files.

what's happening Vlad?
Are they trying to block release of the tool?

This is such a silly statement, given the history of this tool in this community. It wildly takes away from any further discussion you contribute to the topic, unfortunately, because it makes you sound incredibly uninformed. That being said, I'd rather conversation here remain on-topic, and not just devolve into wild speculation that clutters with nonsense. Andrew made that request previously, and I hope we can adhere to it, without having to scratch that itch to always be the person who gets the last word.

I'm certainly not uninformed. I put 50 dollars into REDMC for 2K14. If It sounded like I was implying that this was all fake, and there was no tool in the works, then let me clarify otherwise. All I was saying is that we really have nothing to be excited about, and I'm losing faith, almost all because of the last post about him "negotiating" with 2K.

Well this is an interesting development.

What is happening here? I hope 2K does not block the Release of this Tool.

Let's speculate
https://ch.tbe.taleo.net/CH09/ats/caree ... 38&rid=668"The candidate should have experience designing and writing both standalone as well as plug-in tools to aid and improve the development process, working closely with other engineers and especially artists and designers to help realize creative visions."

The timing is what would make someone suspicious. I understand that since Leftos and Jao were recruited they might invite more people they've known through this forum. However, negotiating practically a few hours before he releases the tool is suspicious. Whatever the real reasons are it's certainly a negative development for the community of nlsc. This used to be a community for basketball games and modders but it looks like VC is trying to limit and / or control the modding bit.

They could very easily stop him releasing it and take him to court.
It is illegal to sell the tools he has been making as he is reverse engineering other peoples work for profit.
It doesnt matter if he spent 5million hours to make his editors it is illegal

Thats it i think , if its the case hope he will offer he's research to greg to continue the tool

Even if released for free they could stop him and take to court if they wanted.
Ive seen it happen with other games eg Nascar Racing 2003.
People released free mods and got taken to court.
All mods are illegal most companies dont bother doing anything about it as the negative publicity isnt worth it.
Looks like 2k went to a fair bit of effort to protect their files and make modding more difficult.
So wouldnt surprise me one bit if they decided to put a stop to a guy trying to profit from it.
Decisions like roster files unable to be shared offline wasnt an accident.
It was a deliberate step to make it harder for roster mods/pirated versions getting roster updates.
Sat Nov 15, 2014 2:15 am
Seems like I forgot he's getting paid for this... in that case I don't blame 2k for maybe wanting to put a stop to this.As long as they don't try to limit free mods.

This is completely untrue. Hell, some developers release mod tools.

Wow.... I put money on the side just for this tool to only get false promises.
Good job @vlad

Because obviously that money is unusable now.

We will be able to buy editor via steam as dlc. This is my point of view.
Sat Nov 15, 2014 3:54 am
Again, 2K doesn't need someone else to make an editor. It's their fucking files, they don't need someone to reverse engineer their own files. Be logical.
Sat Nov 15, 2014 4:48 am
Vlad... just release the damn tool free. It's creating all these problems and now 2K are just going to ban RED MC all together.
