New Rig For 2k15...need advice

Wed Dec 10, 2014 7:45 pm

Hi!

Planning to buy a new rig just for 2k15 and some other PC games (GTA V to name one).....I've prepared this config and I need some advices:

- CPU INTEL CORE I74770S 3.1GHZ SKT1150 8MB BX80646I74770S
- ANTEC POWER SUPPLY VP 550F EC 0761345064675
- M/B ASUS H97PLUS 90MB0IN0M0EAY0
- CORSAIR VALUE SELECT 12GB
- 2x SAMSUNG 250 GB SSD 840 EVO BASIC
- MSI SVGA NVIDIA D5 TWIN FROZR V PCIE3.0 GTX 970 GAMING 4G
- ASUS XONAR DS 7.1 CANALI PCI 107 SNR
- MICROSOFT OEMWIN PROF 7 SP1 64BIT

is that a very good config to play the game maxed out? any advice on single components?

Thanks in advance

What is your budget?

Give us how much you're willing to spend on your new PC and we'll give you some suggestions (also if you're buying the components from specific shop give us the link for prices - I have no idea how much taxes are in Italy).

This is not a very good config as I can see some poor choices (you would regret them later, sorry) and even incompatibilities.
Instead of getting 4770S I would definitely go for 4770K as it is overclockable and has higher stock clock on it's own. That also means going for Z chipset instead of H.
You selected triple channel RAM set for dual channel board, you wouldn't get ideal performance.
Are you planning on setting up RAID 0 with those SSD drives? Are you planning on using your current (magnetic ?) drives?
What is your sound system? Is the sound card necessary?
What about case? Solid case with good airflow and features is base of good PC.

Hi!

- case will be ANTEC CABINET ONE 0761345159708
- memory I'll go 16gb so 4x4gb corsair
- video card I will go 4770K but I don't ned to overclock...so maybe the S' is good enought?
- No RAID 0 planned by now
- Sound System I have Creative Soundworks T40...do I need the sound card or could I use onboard?

what about incompatibilities? The website I did use has a PC configurator and is specialized in custom high quality PC....

Thanks!

By incompability I meant the RAM, it would work somehow, but you would buy configuration you wouldn't be able to fully use.

The sound card is overkill for those speakers imo.
I would go for two 250GB SSDs if you aren't planning to do RAID. Buy one 512GB for system a several games and store everything else on good old magnetic drive. Not that many games benefit from SSD and it's pretty costly in $/MB.

The S is cut version and if you might want to do decent OC in the future.

I don't know your budget, but if you're willing to spend some cash on major upgrade here's what I would go with: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/8VhQBm
Note that the price is for US shops, so it will differ for you.
With PC like this you will have no problem running anything @ 1080p.

It might have problems with games like Arma 3 on Ultra preset with 3 1080p monitors :D

No major updates from what I posted.....16gb of ram and I will go for the bigger video card. So for audio should I use integrated audio of the motherboard ?

The CPU is a major update from what you posted.

It's more powerful than what you have planned in the beginning while I tried to stay close to original average prices (to my surprise you can get 4790K cheaper than 4770K).

CPU is way better and it's not tham much more costly. I also added great cooler that I have very positive experience with (well expect one small cut on my finger).

16 GB of RAM is currently overkill for gaming - you can save some money there and put it into something else. 2x4 config also leaves you the possibility to add another 2 sticks later if needed.
Remember that PS4/X1 both has 8GB of RAM (and games can get up to 5 if I recall correctly) and most games will be limited by that.

The case is a top of the line model in this price range (and beats basically anything up to double of it's price), it's elegant, slick, full of features and can be super quiet or mounted with shitload of fans to keep everything very cool.
The power supply is fully modular - in combination with the case you can have perfectly clean insides of your PC, having all the cables behind the motherboard.

For audio you can use on-board audio chip, because you wouldn't pick up the difference with your speakers. Also the on-board audio chips has come pretty far now.

PS: TBM, you somehow managed to mess up the quotes :D

Fixed.

Also, is this anything to worry about?

The first one isn't anything to worry about - you can either rotate middle hdd cage by 90° or even remove it completely (helps with the airflow).
The case has rear side SSD mounts and bottom cage still fits 3 drives.

Second one is my mistake, that's what happens when I mess around with parts. Should be fixed now - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/8VhQBm.

You're wasting money on that much SSD space.

Yeah, I was gonna point that out. A 120gb SSD is more than enough.

Re: New Rig For 2k15...need advice

Fri Dec 12, 2014 8:01 am

To be honest I'm already running tight with 256GB. System takes some, average new game takes 40-50GB, hell even my modded Skyrim took 30GB of space...

Sure, you can save some cash by buying 256GB version, but I wouldn't go lower than that.

I'm on 120gb with no issues. You really don't need to run ANY games on SSD. Yeah, maybe it'll increase loading times slightly, but other than that, it's not necessary.

That tells me you don't play BF4 :D
Loading times reduced to 30 seconds from 3 minutes for every single match.
SSD is basically a must for this one.

Plus it can help with open world games.
