NBA 2K15 graphics tweak (Nvidia).

Postby GiecuMan on Tue Oct 21, 2014 3:44 am

Hey guys, I want to share with you a simple way to improve NBA 2K15 graphics.
If you don't have NBA 2K15 profile in Nvidia Inspector then add it by clicking little star button and then add nba2k15.exe process to just created profile
Once the profile is created set in Nvidia Inspector:
Antialiasing - Transparency Supersampling to "2x Sparse Grid Supersampling", "4x Sparse Grid Supersampling" or "8x Sparse Grid Supersampling" depending on your personal taste
and if you want some antialiasing then set
Antialiasing - Mode to "Override any application setting"
Antialiasing - Setting to something bigger like 32x CSAA

My current Nvidia Inspector settings:

Ok, now screenshots. This is how game looked before:

And this is how game looks after with 2x Sparse Grid Supersampling:
Image
with 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling:
Image
and with 8x Sparse Grid Supersampling:

Performance hit is minimal (after tweaks still constant 60 fps) and imo it looks much better.

Edit: Updated with new info and screenshots.

Like it looks good but the whole shadowing on the shoulder looks weird...anyway to get rid of that or at least scale it down?

Looks like they took a bath in engine oil. Definitely potential though.

I currently experimenting to tune it down. It's little annoying but almost invisible during the game.
chicagoRAW wrote:Looks like they took a bath in engine oil. Definitely potential though.

Some players shine to much but other looks good.
Edit:
The most obvious way to tune both things down is just to set Antialiasing - Transparency Supersampling to smaller value.
4x Sparse Grid Supersampling seems to almost eliminates weird shoulder shadows and make players less shiny.

Just change Antialiasing - Transparency Supersampling to smaller value like 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling or 2x Sparse Grid Supersampling.
Jerseys will look less plastic.

This is overdoing it. Anti-aliasing might as well have been oven pre-heat settings lol

EDIT: Okay the 4x looks a lot better. By any chance can you record a video of the difference?

Those screens look neat if you're going for a cartoonish, arcade-style game. Otherwise, I'll give a shot at the 4x or 2x to see how that looks, in terms of realism.

I will probably record some gameplay footage when I will have some more free time.

Before 60 fps and after still 60 fps so for me no drop at all and I don't even have a powerful card (GTX 750ti).

Turn off the VSync to see the performance difference.

Maybe bigger drops in cut scenes?

This would be really cool for like, one of those anime mods, but as an actually graphical enhancement, it isn't.

MyCarrer cutscenes 50-60 fps like before. No fps drop.

I agree that 8x seem like too much and looks little cartoonish but 2x is much more toned down and mainly affects jerseys and shorts. Bear in mind that it looks better in game than it does on screenshots.

GiecuMan,
Hey bro I got problem!
when I use 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling the pc is lagging and I cant play with it at all!But when I try to use 2x the whole image is blurred and not that sharp like with 4x!
Do you know how I could use 2x Sparse Grid Supersampling without the whole blurring?

Use this compatibility like the one use for 2k14, the result is much better. The only problem I have using this is that it looks a little blurry.

I've taken pics with every AA setting and there simply isn't those differences. Are you sure some of them didn't have SweetFX or something? I think it's giving people the wrong idea of what those AA settings actually do.

In terms of Nvidia users, if you have a Kepler or Fermi card, download the new drivers released today and play with the DSR setting in the control panel.

Downsampling (and choosing your preference between sharp/smooth) will improve the image quality and you can then lower the AA a little.

No shit... I'm showing where to go to get DSR working. Which for many people, will be a better option than the high end, performance killing AA settings in Nvinspector...

Yep, my screenshots were taken without SweetFX and without Nvidia Inspector AA. Difference with AA set in Nvidia Inspector is very small and it affects only a few things like court lines (I should probably update main post with this info). It's much easier to see difference if you have 29" screen with small resolution of 1360x768 like I do.
I will for sure download new drivers and check this DSR which should be a big improvement.

I don't know what can cause that blurring. Maybe post your pc specs and nvidia inspector screenshots then we will try to figure it out.

So I have found little bit of time to tweak around with some stuff in nvInspector and thought I would share the results. It's just my taste so feel free to tinker with it more.
Also please note that I use custom color settings in cp.
The game looks great to me like this and I run it at vsync limit (60fps) stable. There are some drops in cutscenes, but nothing major.
Some small aliasing is visible in still shots, but tbh I don't care about stills.

Screenshots of how the game looks like after the tweaking, one without DOF, one with DOF:
