TUTORIAL: Make NBA 2K14 generate CAPs using more variables.

This tutorial will show you an easy way to diversify the appearance of generated players in NBA 2K14. For this tutorial, you will be copying and pasting randomly generated values from the CAP Diversifier spreadsheet attached below to RED MC.

By default, 2K14 generates rookies without taking advantage of every customization option. In particular, the game generates players with the same hair length and face type. Using 2K's default generator values, you'll always see guys with the same cheekbones and never see any with full length hairstyles.

By using RED MC, you can fix that. You can also diversify the appearance of rookies the game already generated.

Here's what you'll need:

RED MC: You'll only need to free version to improve the way 2K generates rookies. If you want to modify rookies in a MyPlayer/Association/season/etc save file, you'll need to purchase it with a license that can modify save files and create filters.

CAP Diversifier: Attached below. This is a spreadsheet document you can use to help generate more diverse looking rookies and improve the variety of rookies in existing NBA 2K14 save files.

Microsoft Excel, OpenOffice Calc or another program that can modify Excel spreadsheets.

To force 2K14 to generate more diverse rookies:

1. Open the CAP Diversifier spreadsheet.

2. Open the roster or save file you want to modify in RED MC.

3. In RED MC, click on the the Rookie_Templates tab.

4. In the CAPD spreadsheet, copy every numeric value listed under the CAP_FType column.

5. In RED MC, scroll to the CAP_FType column. Select the CAP_FType value in the first row and paste.

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for CAP_Hlen and Muscles.

7. Save the updated roster.

To improve generic players that 2K14 has already generated in an existing save file:

1. Open the CAP Diversifier spreadsheet.

2. Open the roster or save file you want to modify in RED MC.

3. In RED MC, click on the Players tab.

4. Create a new filter by clicking the New button under "Filters". Name it "Generated" with the following options:

IsGener = 1
IsRegular = 1
IsUnused = 0

This will force RED MC to display only players that were generated by the game and are active. Your MyPlayer isn't generated (IsGener = 0), so you won't have to worry about overwriting his data.

5. In the CAPD spreadsheet, copy every numeric value listed under the CAP_FType column.

6. In RED MC, scroll to the CAP_FType column. Select the CAP_FType value in the first row and paste.

7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for CAP_Hlen, CAP_Eyebr, CAP_TRgtF and Muscles.

8. In RED MC, scroll to the CAP_Hcol column. Copy every value.

9. In the CAPD spreadsheet, paste the Hcol values you copied under the CAP_Hcol "2K" column.

The CAPD spreadsheet needs the 2K values to help randomize hair colors. If a player has black hair, it won't generate a new color for them.

10A. If you only want the generated players to have normal hair colors (shades of brown and blond), copy every numeric value listed under the CAP_Hcol "New" column.

10B. If you want to allow generated players to have normal hair colors and the 5 rainbow hair colors, copy every numeric value listed under the CAP_Hcol "Rare" column.

NOTE: Generated players will have a 5% chance of having a rainbow hair color.

11. In RED MC, paste the values you copied in step 10A or 10B to CAP_Hcol.

12. Save the updated file.

CAP Diversifier spreadsheet notes:

Generated players have a 5% chance of being ripped and/or having a rainbow hair color.

Generated players have a 10% chance of having a right forearm tattoo.

If a player has black hair (CAP_Hcol=0), it won't generate a new color for them.

The CAPD spreadsheet has a max value of 300 players. By my 4th NBA season, the game generated 266 players (144 of them were on NBA teams). This number will vary if you've used custom draft classes.
