TNeck's 2K14 Mods: Retextured HD Generic Players V3 *UPDATE*

Postby TNeckDME on Wed Oct 23, 2013 9:20 am

Hey, guys. I'm ready for another season of NBA 2K modding. I take cyberface requests, but be warned - I'm not the fastest modder.

This topic will be used to host my series of enhancement mods that I've updated for NBA 2K14, as well as any new mods I come up with. As always, feel free to include any texture or part of these mods in your projects.

List of NBA 2K14 Cyberfaces (Complete and in progress)

Trey Burke: Complete
Jose Calderon: Complete
Reggie Evans: Complete
Jason Smith: Complete
James Jones: Complete
Josh Childress: Complete, hair glitch with low poly bench model
Spencer Hawes: Complete, hair glitch with low poly bench model

Phil Pressey: Work in progress
Jerel Blassingame: Work in progress
Rozic Marin: Work in progress

Retextured and HD Generic Players 2K14 V3 *UPDATED*

This mod aims to improve the quality of the generic player cyberfaces and increases the resolution of the default generic player textures from 256x256 to 512x512.

I've only retextured the generic cyberfaces. The HD arms, tattoos and facial hair textures are ported from NBA 2K10, which originally had 512x512 textures.

*UPDATE*: V3 improves the base face textures, adding more detail and removing odd dark spots on the skin. The eyebrows have also been updated to look more realistic and not penciled on.

V3 fixes the the off center goatees, which should now match up more closely with the mustaches. Some aren't perfect, but they're a lot better than they were before. It also adds subtle eyebrows to the base skin textures, as a temporary solution to the missing eyebrow issue.

Credit goes to JaoSming for teaching me more about hex editing and helping me figure out 2K's crazy system for generic player textures. Additional credit goes to exrxixxx for his HD floor & texture tutorial.

Before installing this mod, I recommend backing up the following files:
Code: Select all
createpholder.iff     pcarmtats.iff     pcchest.iff     pcface.iff     pcfacehair.iff
                      pcarmtats.cdf     pcchest.cdf     pcface.cdf     pcfacehair.cdf

TO INSTALL: Overwrite the files in your NBA 2K14 directory with the new files in the ZIP.

Retextured Generic Player Global Textures V2 *UPDATED*

For global modders, I have also adjusted the normal map and occlusion textures for generic players if you want to further improve the cyberfaces. Their filenames match the number of the file in ModTool and the hex address in 3DM MOD. (Ex: 142_00839E50.dds)

DOWNLOAD LINK: Attached below.
TO INSTALL: Replace the old textures in your global with the ones included in the ZIP.

T-Neck's Courtlight ENB Palette V1

This custom-made ENB palette replaces the standard grayscale enbpalette.bmp that comes with some ENB mods. (Note: This is not a complete ENB mod; it only supplements existing ENB mods without custom palettes.)

The goal of this mod is to reduce the grayness of the home jerseys and make it look as if light from the court is bouncing back onto the players, coaches and referees. This causes some side effects, such as light skinned players having more of a yellow tint. If the yellow is too intense, lowering the saturation should help.

I used a combination of Cobra2K's Crystal Clear ENB and JaoSming's Vibrant SweetFX to test this palette. The global I used was Cam's Compilation Global V9 featuring Lagôa.

DOWNLOAD LINK: http://forums.nba-live.com/downloads.php?view=detail&df_id=5696
TO INSTALL: Overwrite the enbpalette.bmp file in your NBA 2K14 directory with this one.

Past mods updated for NBA 2K14:

Retextured Crowd for 2K14 (V2): This mod aims to improve the quality of the crowd in NBA 2K14. This is the same mod as last year, but with the New Orleans Pelicans crowd updated. I've also included a PSD template in the ZIP file, for others that want to update custom/previous NBA 2K crowd textures.

Retextured Sideline Characters for 2K14 (V2): This aims to improve the texture quality of the characters on the sidelines to better match the players on the court. This is also the same as last year's mod, but with the New Orleans Pelicans' cheerleader and ballboy uniforms updated.

You can also find cyberfaces I've ported from NBA 2K12 to 2K14 in the downloads section. If there's an undrafted player without a cyberface or one that hasn't been changed since NBA 2K9, those are my favorite kinds of requests.

You're welcome, guys. Thanks for checking out my work.

SoF'nAwesome wrote:You plan on doing V2 of these mods with new modifications or something?

I'm planning on updating the crowd mod to include the Euroleague and classic teams, as well as the crowds they use for Rookie Showcase and Blacktop Mode.

I'm thinking of making the NBA crowds more geographically accurate based on where the game is being played, using US census statistics. More black fans in Atlanta, a completely white crowd in Utah... something like that. Not to make a racial statement or anything, but just to add a little variety.

Maybe even a retro crowd for the pre-90s NBA teams, too. More sideburns, mustaches, no modern sneakers.

With that said, here's another screenshot of the Courtlight ENB palette:

Sir, can you tell me what exactly did you do to get that effects using your palette? Cause mine's not looking good like yours. Did you just use JaoSming's SweetFX as a proxy to the Crystal Clear ENB or did you also tweak it?

By the way, thanks for all of this!

There was something 2K did for their crowd textures that I haven't incorporated in my mod, yet. They gave their fans reddened ears, which made them look a little more realistic. I'll do the same when I update them.

manustyle90 wrote:will you be updating the pelicans crowd colors?

I can adjust the Pelicans' crowd texture so that more crowd members actually wear the team's colors. Is there something wrong with the colors 2K gave their fans (navy, gold)?

RemX wrote:Sir, can you tell me what exactly did you do to get that effects using your palette? Cause mine's not looking good like yours. Did you just use JaoSming's SweetFX as a proxy to the Crystal Clear ENB or did you also tweak it?

Thanks for trying the Courtlight palette, RemX. I did use JaoSming's SweetFX as a proxy to the Crystal Clear ENB, but tweaked the values a bit.

In the enbseries.ini file, I have the following values for color correction:

[COLORCORRECTION]
DarkeningAmountDay=0
ScreenLevelDay=75
ScreenLevelNight=25
DarkeningAmountNight=0
GammaCurveDay=3
GammaCurveNight=3
ColorSaturationDay=0
ColorSaturationNight=0
UsePaletteTexture=1

In the effect.txt file, I changed the SamplingRange and SharpeningAmount:

float SamplingRange=1
float SharpeningAmount=0.5

In the SweetFX_settings.txt file, I set #define USE_LIFTGAMMAGAIN to 0.

Those are the only adjustments I made. If those don't help, could you use ENB to take a screenshot of what your game looks like?

I got it working now. I didn't proxy it the right way the first time. That's why it didn't look good as yours. :oops:

Thanks for the tweaks! It looks better than without it. (Y)

Cool, I'm glad it helped.

I was originally using RadeonPro to apply SweetFX but realized that JaoSming used version 1.5 of SweetFX for his mod (right now RadeonPro only supports 1.4) , so I switched to the ENB proxy to get the new features of 1.5. Ironically, I forgot to enable the proxy for the shots I posted in the screenshot thread.

I'm glad seanjohn1414's Stadium Feel Mod works with NBA 2K14.

I was asked by hiteshom to update Trey Burke's cyberface.

Here's what I've got so far. Any thoughts?

I have no idea why 2K's Burke has gray facial hair. His texture looks normal in the IFF file.

If you're headshape editing, as mentioned, I think the chin needs to come to a bit of a thinner, yet still square, end. Also I think the hairline should be a tad higher, and the tip of the nose should be a little less bulbous. Still, it's already a huge improvement over the default.

Thanks for the critiques, guys. Here's an update.

You might have noticed that in the ingame screenshot, the area around Burke's collarbone doesn't perfectly line up with his 3D body ingame.

I left the vertices on the neck/collarbone area alone, so I'm not sure if it was caused by something else I did or if it was already that way with 2K's Burke. Regardless, I'll try to line it up as close as I can.

The neck/collarbone issue is fixed, so I've released Trey Burke. Here's a link to the download page.

I didn't update his low poly face model, because I've noticed issues with the low poly versions of my Spencer Hawes and Josh Childress cyberfaces.

It seems to be an issue with the mod tools or even the N2KM plugin, considering that they haven't been updated since NBA 2K12. The 3DM MOD tool exports the low poly models as N2KMs without any issues, but there are issues with importing them. When I import the low poly model with the 3DM MOD tool, it appears perfectly fine. When I save the IFF and reopen it, it takes the vertices on the top of the head and moves them to the neck. I thought it was just the editor being weird, but it shows up the same way ingame.

Have you tried using the nba 2kx modtool?? I still play 2k12 and i have all of the current players in 2k12 now.. and i use that modtool to import/export any & all 3d models.

When it comes to just textures.. 3dm tool is the quickest to open so i use that.. but for head models.. i use 2kx mod tool

Hey man, used your re-textured generic players using JSGME and it totally crashed my game. Even when I uninstalled, generic players won't load and games won't load. Having to do a clean install (not sure why disabling it in JSGME didn't fix it). Just a heads up.
