Howdy. So skoadom asked if my scoreboard crashed the game in association and mycareer. Well, I honestly didn't know. I played 2k14 pretty exclusivly from 2014 - 2018 on an old laptop that could barely run the game. With the gameplay issues of 20-21 ... and it seems 22 (i still enjoy 2k18, but that's just my preference) i returned to 2k14.
Anyways, the texture mods have gotten larger (courts, jersey, etc) and there are plenty of high quality mods in the community. So, i played with default 2k14 and my espn scoreboard in association. everything was working good.
I grabbed [JUMPMAN2K] 2019-2020 NBA Core Courts Pack (excellent courts) and played more association, but started to have little pauses in gameplay while in association. Then, in [JUMPMAN2K] NBA 20-21 Core Courts Pack .... jumpan mentioned reducing texture size to improve stability. forget the post.... somewhere on facebook. There were other little posts about 2k14 modding and crashed to desktop as I was perusing mods.
Anyways, got me thinking about the other 32bit playstation 3 games where we had to mod the memory to 4gb. I'm not sure if this has been discussed in the 2k14 community. Or if it makes a difference. With other ps3 games like fallout3... fallout new vegas... oblivion ... you could patch the exe to 4GB memory, but even with too many texture mods.... your game would still eventually crash. But it would give you a little more memory for texture mods.
Anyways, took at look at fallout 3 Large Address Aware Enabler mod (link)... which was one of the first memory patchers... and the 4GB exe patcher https://ntcore.com/?page_id=371 which is the pretty standard patcher used accross many games.
Now, i'm not a programmer (life took me elsewhere), but looked up the exe in hex to see what changes... only two changes for fallout 3
Fallout 3 Large Address Aware Enabler

Fallout 3 4gb Patcher

So, they both change the same things. "03" to "23 ... and then they both look for hex code: 00 c0 17 00 .... then if the next 4 bytes are 00 00 00 ... they change it to something.
Anyways, lets look at 2k14.exe when patched with the 4GB Patcher

It allready has the correct "23" in the correct spot. But it has 00 c0 17 00 .... and it has 00 00 00 after the marker. Now, the 4GB patcher changes the 00 00 00 to something else.
Point of this post:
Anyways, i have been using the 4gb patch on the 2k14.exe ..... and i no longer get the small pauses in gameplay on my association. But I am not running many mods. Just my 2021 ESPN Scoreboard and [JUMPMAN2K] 2019-2020 NBA Core Courts Pack.
Anyways, if y'all have a modded setup with lots of texture mods ... and it crashes to desktop in association.... maybe nba2k14.exe only had the 2GB limit and needed to be patched to 4GB. Anyways, if ya'll have a modded game that crashes to desktop, if you feel like patching your exe .... if it makes it more stable, feel free to post your results here. Not sure if the 4GB Patcher will help or not.
here is a link (with other links on it) about why the 4GB Patch was needed on New Vegas: http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/4GB_memory_patcher
Anyways, just post if it helps or not. that's all. Again, I am not a programmer to look into it further. If you are a programmer, feel free to discuss the 4GB Patcher in regards to nba2k14.exe
that's all. have a good day.
