Re: Slimm44's 2k14 Editing Guide and Roster Project

Thu Dec 19, 2013 11:31 am

Hey slimm, I was playing with the newest roster last night with the transactions up to date (no FA signings though--just trading to update the Kings roster). This includes Aaron Gray as a backup center for the Kings. He's not rated high at all, however, it's SO bad that he can't even jump for rebounds. No response whatsoever while I mash my (Y) button.

Fast forward to ~26:55-27:08 for the defensive play. I switch to Gray but he doesn't leave the ground--just stands there like an elephant. He jumps once but it's so mistimed. The other times the ball is up in the air and he doesn't even try to grab the rebound.

I have to say, and I mean this with the utmost sincerity... This roster is like playing an entirely different game. Its really amazing how different the CPU plays and even my own players, and how much more enjoyable it is. Bravo. (Y)

I haven't been able to edit all the players' vertical ratings yet. If their vertical rating is too low, the delay is so long for the jump after you push the button that that happens sometimes. I just looked at what 2k had his vertical rating at and it was...

wait for it...

just a little longer...

25!!!

A FREAKING 25 VERTICAL FOR AN NBA PLAYER???? C'mon now, Shawn Bradley could jump off the floor and he probably had the lowest vertical ever. His measured vertical at the combine in 2006 was 32.5 inches which will give him a 65 vertical in my roster, which is right around the average. That will help him jump.

25!!! That blows my mind. I bet Novak can't jump either, he has a 31. I won't have anyone rated under a 55 for jumping.

I haven't tested your Overalls + Potentials relationship yet. We should do some Association simulation comparisons, how about a sample of 5 simulations? 12 Minutes 82 games, Everything is on and have the CPU do all the automatic work. Let's post the top 5 or 10 league leaders in each important category, the awards, All-NBA teams, Team Records, Playoffs Results, etc.

I'll do this tonight.

I'll run a few sims this morning and post the results, also. However, I haven't edited Potential yet. I'm also going to do 5 1st-season simulations to avoid auto-generated rookies from skewing things.

Why are we leaving everything up to the AI? It's not very smart. How they distribute minutes is pretty ridiculous and it skews pretty well all stats, standings, and awards. I posted a week or so ago a sim I did with 5 teams and the stats lined up almost perfectly when the minutes/rotations are set correctly. It has been known for years that 2k doesn't do this right in association mode.

Re: Slimm44's 2k14 Editing Guide and Roster Project

I'm finishing up editing various ratings of players who are on teams right now (I think the only ones I have left are speed and quickness) and I will be able to start on the FA's. They won't take long because I'm only going to edit the ones that are likely to ever get signed to an actual contract by my guide and the other guys I will just eyeball-edit and make sure there's nothing crazy going on, such as Hilton Armstrong having 16 Take Shot or Craig Brackins having 75 Take Shot, then I'll be able to create, copy, and edit the missing players and release. Hopefully, it'll all be done in the next week or so.

Re: Slimm44's 2k14 Editing Guide and Roster Project

Fri Dec 20, 2013 11:05 am

I keep getting Kevin Durant as the MVP, MCW as the Rookie of the Year, the Sixth Man award almost goes to any random player all the time (Blaming 2K for putting whoever on the bench for this), and the Defensive Player of the Year goes to Paul George.

In my simulations, the Trail Blazers are always a high seed (1-3) with the Timberwolves being the dark horse type of team being the 5th or 6th seed and advancing much further into the playoffs than expected.

Common Finals Appearances

East - Miami, Chicago, Indiana
West - OKC, Houston, Portland

I was just testing which players would get minutes under 2K's standard AI and which fits the game best. As for Shot Tendency, I think your formula produces low values hence players like Kevin Durant don't ever win the Scoring Title. What about using this type of formula:

Per Team, the highest FGA is the standard for each player PER 36 M

Shot Tendency = FGA/Highest FGA on Team*100

Example

Code:
Name   FGA   Shot T
Russell Westbrook   19.8   99
Kevin Durant   17.6   89
Reggie Jackson   14.8   75
Jeremy Lamb   14.2   72
Serge Ibaka   13.1   66
Perry Jones   10.7   54
Thabo Sefolosha   7.9   40
Derek Fisher   7.7   39
Ryan Gomes   7.7   39
Hasheem Thabeet   6.8   34
Nick Collison   6.4   32
Steven Adams   6   30
Kendrick Perkins   5.2   26
Andre Roberson   4.6   23

what do you think?

Re: Slimm44's 2k14 Editing Guide and Roster Project

Fri Dec 20, 2013 12:03 pm

I think that the stats that I posted earlier from a sim where minutes were set correctly:

Code:
Sim Stats

Irving 35 MPG, 1463 FGA = 17.8 FGA
Thompson 32 MPG, 679 FGA = 8.3 FGA
Waiters 30 MPG, 1080 FGA = 13.1 FGA
Varejao 25 MPG, 479 FGA = 5.8 FGA
Jack 24 MPG, 740 FGA = 9 FGA

This year's stats

Irving 35 MPG, 18.6 FGA
Thompson 33 MPG, 9.7 FGA
Waiters 28 MPG, 12.4 FGA
Varejao 29 MPG, 3.5 FGA
Jack 27 MPG, 8.7 FGA

Sim Stats

Cousins 33 MPG, 1382 FGA = 16.8 FGA
Salmons 27 MPG, 460 FGA = 5.6 FGA
Vasquez 27 MPG, 752 FGA = 9.2 FGA
McLemore 26 MPG, 858 FGA = 10.5 FGA
Thompson 24 MPG, 529 FGA = 6.5 FGA

This Year's Stats

Cousins 30 MPG, 17.1 FGA
Salmons 25 MPG, 6.5 FGA
Vasquez 26 MPG, 8.3 FGA
McLemore 25 MPG, 9.3 FGA
Thompson 23 MPG, 6.7 FGA

Sim Stats

Anthony 36 MPG, 1702 FGA = 20.8 FGA
Felton 34 MPG, 785 FGA = 9.6 FGA
Bargnani 32 MPG, 1014 FGA = 12.4 FGA
Shumpert 28 MPG, 533 FGA = 6.5 FGA
Smith 25 MPG, 839 FGA = 10.2 FGA

This Year's Stats

Anthony 39 MPG, 20.6 FGA
Felton 32 MPG, 10.6 FGA
Bargnani 31 MPG, 12.7 FGA
Shumpert 28 MPG, 6.3 FGA
Smith 30 MPG, 11.6 FGA

Sim Stats

Love 35 MPG, 1342 FGA = 16.4 FGA
Martin 35 MPG, 1266 FGA = 15.4 FGA
Pekovic 34 MPG, 831 FGA = 10.1 FGA
Rubio 33 MPG, 602 FGA = 7.3 FGA
Brewer 33 MPG, 749 FGA = 9.1 FGA

This year's stats

Love 36 MPG, 17.7 FGA
Martin 35 MPG, 16.5 FGA
Pekovic 34 MPG, 12.4 FGA
Rubio 33 MPG, 8.3 FGA
Brewer 34 MPG, 11.5 FGA

Sim Stats

Batum 37 MPG, 803 FGA = 9.8 FGA
Aldridge 36 MPG, 1430 FGA = 17.4 FGA
Matthews 35 MPG, 815 FGA = 9.9 FGA
Lillard 34 MPG, 1195 FGA = 14.6 FGA
Lopez 33 MPG, 628 FGA = 7.7 FGA

This year's stats

Batum 36 MPG, 10.2 FGA
Aldridge 37 MPG, 20 FGA
Matthews 34 MPG, 11 FGA
Lillard 36 MPG, 15.6 FGA
Lopez 31 MPG, 7.3 FGA

are about as good as it gets. This is why I don't understand why you wanted to run sims when the CPU is known to jack the minutes/rotations up badly. Do you mind letting me know what you think of the FGA from the sim I just posted? I don't remember you commenting on it when I first posted it.

question for you man. i've been playing with your slider set and it's great, but i have the global shot tendencies all at 50 as slimm suggested a while ago. It results in many shots in paint, does using your shot tendencies adjustment have any particular effect against the coach profiles and new individual shot tendencies edits by slimm?

i would also like to know how your blocks number is so low (and realistic), for me it seems so easy to block even with the slider at zero, i average more than 10 per game

Re: Slimm44's 2k14 Editing Guide and Roster Project

Getting closer, guys. I did general edits to the active FA's so they were within the limits of my editing scales. The vast majority of the FA's have not been edited based on my guide, only to prevent them from breaking gameplay and the sim-engine. I'm getting pretty burnt out on this project and really don't care about guys like Jamario Moon or Cory Higgins. I am not guaranteeing the accuracy of the FA's but they shouldn't be too broken.

There are two more groups of hidden players to edit, the players I need to create and edit, and then I can update the transactions. I should be able to have the official release next week (with everything edited). If you guys point out to me errors that I've made or things I've overlooked, I'll correct them. I'm really just trying to get this thing done so I can take a short break and get started on Skoadam's 1992-93 roster project.

Today i have a free two hours to test a little. I sim some modes, play two game, view rosters etc.
What i notice. I think in some way Houston looks to good after sims, but normal in game.
Shane Battier dominate Heat team. I dont know is it problem with his position, maybe with LBJ on PF it will back to normal.

Re: Slimm44's 2k14 Editing Guide and Roster Project

Sat Dec 21, 2013 3:17 am

I played some more last night and really loved the results. I played 6 minute Quarters, and dropped some of the fouling just a little bit, to keep the flow of the game going, so I could judge that along with the stats, and was thrilled with the results. The only thing I noticed was the CPU slightly elevated in Points in the Paint, and me giving up 7 Off. Reb. while getting 0 Off. Reb. myself (this may just be a me thing, though, since I had the same problem in 2K13). I deliberately played a very slow pace, and only had 2 fast break points; a far cry from my usual run and gun style of play. With these settings I'm really able to use the playbook more, run actual plays, and simulate real basketball more. It's really fantastic. (Y)

Did you set the rotations in the sims you did?

Did Battier dominate in gameplay or in the simulation and how did he dominate?

I decided not to add most of the hidden players to the FA list right now. The reason is most of them are currently on D-League teams and are not technically free agents. If and when those players are called up during the season, I will add them to their appropriate team and edit them. I also plan on releasing different rosters throughout the season when there are major injuries or transactions so there shouldn't be large chunks of time where players who should be playable are hidden. I will try to check every few days or every weeks on transactions but if you guys could post transactions or major injuries that you see it would be very helpful.

I'm gonna create the missing players, download and assign CF's, edit the ratings/tendencies, and update the rotations. I should be able to have two roster releases in the next few days, one being the official Opening Day roster and the 2nd being the roster which accounts for injuries and transactions.

Again, thanks for the patience and support, guys.

Yeah my bad, i did not touch rotations in asso or season mode.
Battier dominate Heat offense to the maximum. I mean i play against Heat. He score 14points in first quarter, later not so good, but first quarter was huge in both two games, i never ever seen this kind of situation in 2k13. Because of my rosters in 2k13 and converting in 2k14 i have no time for look closer, but maybe to much plays are sets for PF. Battier starts as PF. LBJ often after moving ball to opponent half did not touches the ball, very similar looks Wade. I play only two games against Miami so it can be just accidence.

It's probably that if Battier is open at the 3PT line he's gonna shoot. He only has 30 Touches Tendency (probably among the 10 lowest players in the league) and the only play type he has is PNR Man. My guess is that your defense has to help so much on Lebron/Wade when they drive that Battier is left open. Also, if the 3PT Tendency Slider is set too high, he will take 3's within the flow of the offense if he is standing on the perimeter. None of his tendencies or ratings should allow him to consistently take the most shots unless A. the 3PT Tendency Slider is too high or B. the defense is leaving him so wide-open when helping that he can't help but shoot.

Bro i dont think u shud bother about my thoughts now because i can be tired and just play poor defense, other thing is i still got problem with 2k14 gameplay and controls.
From 2k12 i always think overalls means nothing or almost nothing, i use those thoughts in my 2k13 rosters. But i have little problem when i see Howard at 92. Yes i understand his athetic give him probably +6 overall but still my eyes is hurt when i must watch this guy when choosing team in select team screen. Yes i can get over this because i fully believe in your formulas. (Y)

Will you be using the same formula for the '92-'93 roster?
