Back in the day where the Celtics where the only team in Basketball to wear black shoes as part of a great tradition. Then came the 1989 playoffs, and freaking Brad Sellers had the idea that the Bulls should give the black sneakers a try to change their luck against the Cavaliers. MJ, had had his second consecutive all-star game wearing black sneakers and loved the idea. The 1990 Bulls also wore team biker shorts during the playoffs (white in the first round, red in the semis and black in the conference finals).
Then others team followed the "good luck for the playoffs" black sneakers tradition (Sixers in 90 and 91, Warriors in 91 (and kept using them the following 4 regular seasons), Knicks in 92 through 00, Heat in 92, the suns in 94, etc.) Other teams along the way adopted black shoes for their regular season like the Warriors, Clippers, Heat (Start of 92-93), Bullets 1996-97, etc. and other adopted black sneakers for their away unis (1992-93 Suns, 1993-94 Magic most notably).
