Good news.
v0.22.2 released!
This version adds the ContYBefOpt (Contract Years Before Option) parameter to players, which I hadn't previously noticed. That's what was missing on making contract edits work. What's even better is that the tool will automatically calculate this parameter whenever you save the Players table, so you don't have to worry about it at all. Just edit the player's salary and his option, and the tool will automatically fix the ContYBefOpt parameter whenever you save the table. So, for example, a player that has his ContractY1 & ContractY2 set and has a Player option, even if you manually set ContYBefOpt to 6, the tool will correct that to 1, since there's only 1 year before the Player option that applies to ContractY2.
Long story short, if you previously did contract edits (which included extending or shorting a player's contract) to your saves and the new contract length didn't apply in-game, all you have to do is download the latest Roster Editor, open your save, and save the Players table. The tool will automatically fix the contract years for you.
Just FYI, I noticed some weird behaviour on the game's part as well. For example, with the latest 2K roster, using the Edit Player screen to give Jrue Holiday an option-less 6 year contract, made the game edit his contract years before option from 5 to 4, instead of 6. So in-game contract editing has its glitches as well, but you should be now able to edit the contracts with (hopefully) no glitches at all via the Roster Editor.
So, Nightfly, try doing what I mentioned in bold and see if that fixes your MyCareer save.
