Alright guys, I'm pretty sure some of you has had this string of text showing, in big blue letters, when you try to run the 3DM Mod Tool:
NBA2K12MODTOOL has stopped working
I had the same problem a while back, but I stumbled upon a little something and I hope it might work for you too.
Here's how it goes: the program is quite picky when it comes to the DirectX version of the PC it's in. Mine had DirectX 11, mainly because it's on Windows 7 Ultimate. What it really wants is something a little lower, like say... DirectX 9.0. What you need to do is download the installer (got ya' covered right here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35*) and, uh, install the package. It's that simple! For me, anyway.

*Scroll down the page for the offline version of the installer.
Q: Hey, Gigabyte, I ran dxdiag and it still says I have DirectX 11. What do I do?
A: Have you tried running the tool yet?

I ran into the same scenario, trust me. I think something in the registry is forcing dxdiag to display DirectX 11 instead of a downgraded 9.0 (some say the former is pre-installed in Windows 7). No biggie, just try running the mod tool and let i'rip!

Hope I helped someone here. Oh, btw, I can't help anyone if this doesn't work; I'm sorry. The thing is it worked for me, and I just wanted to share the info just in case someone might find it useful. Okay? Okay.

Special thanks go to Tha King for helping me with this. Somehow.
