Changes to Off-Topic Sections
In a nutshell, we're cutting down on the number of off-topic sections. We're a site dedicated to basketball video gaming and the sections dedicated to basketball games is where most of the discussion takes place. However, we all have other interests, so ever since the original Discus board we've found it handy to have at least a couple of off-topic sections for talking about the real NBA and so on. A few years back we broke up the off-topic sections into a few different categories but in hindsight, that was overkill. As such, we'll be merging a few sections.
- NBA & Basketball Talk, General Talk and Video Games Central will remain as separate sections. Video Games Central will be moved to the main index.
- The Sports Lounge, Photoshop Studio and Entertainment & Media will be merged back into General Talk.
- All basketball related threads in the Fantasy Sports section will be moved to the NBA & Basketball Talk section. All other threads will move to General Talk. Current season threads will remain stickied.
- Video Game Stories will be merged back into Video Games Central.
- Hardwood Classics will remain its own section, but will become a subsection of General Talk.
Section Renaming
We're also going to rename a few sections.
- Dynasty, Association & MyPLAYER Stories will become Basketball Video Game Stories, so that we don't have to lengthen/change the name every time a new mode is added or renamed. All basketball video game story threads will be welcome.
- The various Patching Help & Requests sections will be renamed Help & Requests, since a lot of people seem to want to use them for technical questions anyway.
- We may end up changing the name of The Virtual Hardwood but whether it keeps its current name or gets a new one, it'll remain a general section for talking about basketball video games (mostly ones other than NBA Live and NBA 2K, which of course have their own sections).
Custom Titles
We'll be reducing the requirements for getting the custom title option in your profile. The new requirements we're looking to implement are: registered for one month, with a minimum of 100 posts.
Rules Revision
The rules themselves will basically remain the same as they always have, they'll just be revised to ensure less ambiguity in certain areas. We also want to cut down on unwritten rules that new posters are somehow meant to immediately know and comply with, so we'll be adding some more stuff about patching, credits, etc.
Any questions or concerns, please let me know.
