Insert it between the / and & symbols
Code: Select all
[flash=720,405]http://www.youtube.com/v/________&hd=1[/flash]

Just an update. I had to add &ap=%2526fmt%3D18 to a video to get it to play otherwise it gave me the "video is no longer available" message. It may because it was not available in such a high resolution.

It's actually the end of that "fmt=18", which is the designator to automatically display in "high quality." I believe "22" is the HD designator.

Embedding may not work properly if, as you said, the video does not possess HD. 18 seems to be "high quality, if not, standard", the HD designator is completely different as you can see when on the youtube site and it displays the larger video frame instead of the standard one.

Some videos have HD, high quality and standard. Some have just HD and standard. Some have just high and standard. YouTube really needs to work on this so it sends the proper stream. (And another thing! It never saves my settings and shows the best quality. I have to set it back every so often. GET ON THE BALL.)

This is what I found, but I am not sure how accurate it is.
    &fmt=6 - increases the resolution from 320×240 to 448×336, Flash 7 video @ 900Kbps; audio @ 44.1KHz 96Kbps Mono CBR.
    &fmt=18 - increases the resolution to 480×360, H.264 video @ 512Kbps; audio @ 44.1KHz 128Kbps Stereo.
    &fmt=22 - increases the resolution to 1280×720 (720p), H.264 video @ 1024Kbps; audio @ 44.1KHz 232Kbps Stereo.

Yeah, that would fit with what I said. 18 is high quality (H.264 container), 22 is the bigger size (720p).

Looks like the 22 now works automatically to increase the quality if you have the frame set right.

For reference you just need for 480p or the size of the box itself on YouTube:
Code: Select all
[flash=854,480]http://www.youtube.com/v/jbkSRLYSojo&fmt=22[/flash]

For 720p:
Code: Select all
[flash=1280,720]http://www.youtube.com/v/dlXy7mKX1Iw&fmt=22[/flash]

Just grab the URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F9qo0tnh3c (or the code at the end to paste into an existing form.)
and delete "watch?" and then replace the = with a / and stick the &fmt=22 on the end.

Just change the x/y parameters for the highest resolution the video offers or if you want to save screen width for people. It will default down to that size.

But, for some reason the fullscreen option doesn't work for me when people embed like that.

I do that too. On my phone, I can open view embedded with the video tag in the YouTube app which plays smoothly while it is happy in the browser. Not with the flash embedded HD ones, though.
