Talk about NBA 2K13 here.

NBA Retro mods for 2K13 (now with my own roster fixes!)

Postby levynagy on Tue Jul 30, 2013 6:48 pm

I am a huge retro fan, I am personally more interested in the 1990-2000 era of the NBA and I am into playing Association on 2K. I still think 2K11 is the best game in every and each sense but...I got sick of D-League screwing my Association so here I am giving another chance to 2K13 and trying to play it in the Association mode.

After testing every retro mod for 2K13 in the last couple of days (and updating the bio for many players in the Retroman's mods) here is what I've found for comparison. These retro mods are far from being perfect and because they use different roster packages each with different IDs it is quite a mess if you install them simultaneously. For everybody's sake these two guys should team up for a better NBA experience  and to make our life easier  .Anyone is welcome to share his opinion about it and why not, send suggestions.

Retroman's 1997-1998 mod (Y)
- great graphic experience, accurate teams, rich rosters, audio very good, great draft classes :!:
- outdated bios, overall rating good/in detail rating below average for the players :?:
- unplayable as Association  due to too many players in the database vs. 2K13's limitation *he's waiting for the new REDitor to come out

Retroman's 2001-2002 mod (Y) (Y) (Y)
- great graphic experience, accurate teams, rich rosters, audio very good, great draft classes :!:
- wrong bios (*I fixed them all by myself), overall rating good/in detail rating below average for the players (*someone might want to fix this although it can take weeks!) :?:
- playable as Association

* Here is my update with the fix: http://rapidshare.com/files/2048878907/ ... Season.ROS

Skoadam's 1999-2000, 2006~ mods (Y) (Y)
- great graphic experience, accurate logos and CFs (no wonder they look so great as this is a compilation taken from Hawk's 2K12 huge retro mods package!)
- overall ratings good/in details ratings just average (all players have about the same shooting ratings e.g. 70 in FT, it looks like the data was inserted without checking the real stats) :!:
- only half accurate bios: age right, experience +1 year, draft information in player's cards missing or incomplete in most of the cases :?:
- salaries and contracts missing :?:
- many players missing from the official roster, their audio as well :?:
- playable as Association  (*using nbatalk's draft classes just as Retroman)

* Here is my 1 week long work with the multiple fixes to correct this mod otherwise graphically excellent and prepare it for a more enjoyable association gaming experience: http://rapidshare.com/files/2499278046/ ... Season.ROS

Some of the changes I've made to the original roster file (because I don't have a licensed RED MC I couldn't touch the Bobcats & other stuff so you wil have to live with it):
- emptied the annoying FA list of players who were not playing in 1999
- created about 30 players and added to their real teams (brought back and moved to PHX one of my fav players who's case is quite unique in the NBA: Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf)
- changed NBA experience (-1 year), updated the draft information, adjusted FT numbers to the real FT average per career (no other ratings have been touched!) for every player
- fixed a few audios but there are still tens of players with audio IDs missing (I could fix them all if anyone can provide me the real audio IDs)
- put the real salaries and 90% accurate contracts for every player
- deleted stats and records so a new database will build up while you play your association - but I didn't touch the awards column so the game won't crash

Logos do show up fpr 99-00 mod if you extract the 13/14 pack. Even thought it says in the 1st post you only need pack 1,2 and 3 for retro files I'm pretty sure you need the current roster pack to get the logos to work...

And as a bonus, here is my 2001-2002 roster file for Retroman's mod with the updated bios. They were WAY OFF, so now you will have the correct age and NBA experience for all cca. 450 players! I also eliminated the retired players from the file, added low level players to Bobcats (because the team takes part in the Association mod whether or not we lile it) taken from teams with 15+ players on the original roster. I changed the ratings for a very few players (e.g. Juwan Howard from 56 to 70+) and moved a few to their actual team (PHX is a special case for me: T.Delk <-> J.Johnson, Buechler <-> Outlaw, Crispin etc.).

Enjoy my work & feel free to comment!

http://rapidshare.com/files/2048878907/ ... Season.ROS

P.S. Also a hint for you if you are into editing. 2K13 acts weird when you try to save your roster file: basically it will crash if you hit save roster while it is saving so do another thing, let the game save your changes by itself by pressing HOME (the 1st tab in the menu) and you will see the game progressing while it saves the changes you just made to the roster.

I am trying to use 2K13 solely as a retro mod on my PC and that's why I am trying to avoid copying patches to update the latest season(s). But what you are saying makes sense although it is completely wrong from what Skoadam's said in the description. :D Thank you for pointing that out for me and everybody else interested in this! I will probably have to use the current roster pack if I want to play the 99-00 mod.

But it will not be some big problem for u to use my current, even if some files will overwrite, it will be only the same files(rookies-same as all other rosters), jerseys and courts from this package will not colidate with others, so really u can feel safe and use it. After all hope u will change your description.

Yes, you were right about the logos & faces although initially you forgot to mention we have to download the current season (2014) pack. Anyway, I deleted that from my review.

But I checked the ratings in detail and I must say if those are taken from the 2K12 "famous" multiple seasons pack, they are far from being realistic. On your 99-00 roster every player is 70 in FT and about 80 for inside shot, they all have huge potential etc. There are too many aspects to mention, bottom line is not much in the player ratings is personalized for each separate player which for me - and other I dare to say experts in the retro seasons - has not much to do with the realism we are expecting from these mods to "re-enact" some of the battles from the past we have seen live when we were young.

This is my opinion and please respect it as much as I respect your work - and I said you did a good job overall! I might start changing the ratings for every player in the future but right now I am busy with my life. I did the same thing for the 1996-1997 mod for 2K11 and it took...months, so I don't think I am gonna do it again. Plus there are different formulas for 2K13 vs. 2K11, no one really knows which are the best...

I can agree with u but hey, ft is overrated in 2k13, simulate season and u will see whats happen, check players ft%, not always numbers means something is bad. Do you know that % from the paint in whole history of league is about 50%? Ofc there is guys like Shaq, Zo, Olajuwon, Duncan and other all stars, but hey not everybody will have 90-100 rating from the paint..cmon u want score 130-150? Dont worry they will make easy shots, but there will be many missed shots when contested.
Did u notice that i include tendencies for every player? Really no offence, u can think that my job is good overall, but please check details, like specific faces for young versions, rotations, positions, tendencies, accessories, coaches, ratings for coaches, years pro for coaches, profiles, no generic faces. But seriously im chill out and have no problem with critisizm, im just defending my work, where it looks ok for me. I can agree with potential, i dont know why i forget about this, this will be fixed for sure, because this is one of my points to make good roster. And well, i think i can wish u good fun with urb even if something is wrong.

Now i read it. +1 years pro? wtf are u talking about? In nba 2k there is no 0 year or rookie year, its just first season, cmon dude u are really not fair. Another thing, u delete opinion about miising logos but u post retromans roster is graphical ok and mine's not? its simple unfair. I dont care if u think like this, but please do not post your wrong thoughts because some people read it and make opinion.

Yes, every player in the roster file has one year more experience than he had in that actual season in 1999. Check the stats at nba reference ffs and stop talking shit! And there is actually a 0 level experience in REDitor editing for 2K13 and it also shows up in the game for players who have no experience/they are in their 1st season! I did this for every rookie in the 2001 season for the Retroman's 2001-2002 mod, I always speak up based on facts. If you don't believe me you can put 0 in the "Years" column, download my patch from this thread and check for yourself. The fact you didn't know about this actually proves me a lot of things about your editing habits but I am not gonna trash anything to give you any (negative) self-satisfaction. You obviously like to get into long debates with people and I still don't understand why are you so uptight and against Retroman but that is your business, I don't care.

Dude u're wrong. 1 season is rookie season always in 2k. Never in 2k history, i never see 0 years from original rosters, NEVER. Whats more? U are only one who sets 0, dude u dont know what u talking about. Check Albys, Meds, Hawks last year, every retro seasons are with "1 year pro" for all rookies. And thats the facts. Dude u are step away for admin call, because i dont like the way u talk with me.
And one more, im not against retro, i always have huge respect for his work and he know about this. What im talking about that u are not fair with your scale. U write about graphical in retroman roster, nothing in mine. So im asking, whats wrong with graphical things with my roster. Whats the difference?

I never said I want a high scoring game, on the contrary I think 2K13 is the worst game so far in that area because it lacks a realistic defensive game and its fast paced gameplay is the most unrealistic one so far. I'd prefer a slower game with realistic scores in the less than 100 ppg category. That for you translates as realistic FT shooting but lower values for the other shooting skills (you have an average of 80+ for shooting for players on your file and I was thinking/hoping at least 10 less but as I said earlier nobody has the right formula yet so it is quite difficult to find the best way to adjust those ratings).

I haven't had the time to check the tendencies in the game to be able to talk about it but I believe you, they must be there.

Are you serious?!?! You must be f-kidding me! You are the one trashing me and using "wtf" and crying like a baby for positive reviews after you admit you did wrong by not telling people there are missing bits in your uploaded files? Have you even checked my roster file at all to end this stupid discussion about THERE IS a 0 level experience for the rookies in 2K13? 2K13 IS NOT 2K12! It looks like 2K learned something after all... Do you understand how that thing works? Rookies start with 0 and the next season they will have 1 year experience instead of 2 (your version) because they PLAYED ONLY 1 season and not 2. Anyway, I am gonna shut my mouth now before the drama queen that you are bursts in tears...

Yes shut yout mouth because you still dont understand that u're wrong. I already know that u dont know what is editing. 2k isnt learn nothing. IN 2k12 "0" years is avaible to, but why every GOOD roster maker never use this?

I was never wrong and you never proved I was with what I've said, you crybaby. :applaud: But...if you were here when 2K11 hit the shelves in stores and if you tried to edit the game you would have known the number 0 didn't work in REDitor (maybe because it was invented by Arabs   - and here is your free history lesson for today!) that's WHY all serious patchers never used it until now when...surprise, it does work - and it should work because this is the way it should have been forever! I bet you are too proud to try it (it takes literally 5-10 minutes for a full season simulation to see how 0 changes to 1 in the 2nd season) and you will never use my tip just because your ego is bigger than your brain. Case closed!

No it is not closed. You did not answer my question. And btw why u talk about 2k11. Im talking about 2k12. There was easy possibilty to set 0 via reditor and every solid roster maker know about this. So once again, why no one(even 2k) from last two years never use "0 year" for rookies? I can give you a tip, it is not because of their(mine) HUGE EGO.

Yes, I answered your question but you are too high on something to see it clearly... I said patchers had the number 0 issue since 2K11 and I guess they were afraid to use it ever since. Although number 0 is now completely usable they are still reluctant and you are the best example of this! You STILL refuse to believe me and you prefer wasting your time with these posts instead of using my tip and make the rookies on your roster file more accurate. There isn't much left to tell really: I showed you a "door", I cannot force you to enter if you are stubborn...

Haha, everybody knows about this in 2k12, u think u discovered this now, first? LOL,cmon Hawk knows about this because one time he was fixing one of my retro roster and putting 1year pro for all rookies. Go through a season and u will see why putting "0" is an problematic issue. But i dont give you clear answer, u will have to find answer, but believe me it will be very very painful. Now it is closed.

- deleted stats and records so a new database will build up while you play your association - but I didn't touch the awards column so the game won't crash

sorry levynagy but skoadam is %100 correct about the years pro thing. i think you got hung up on the term "years pro", it sounds like the amount of years the player HAS played when in actually it means the year the player is in as a pro. simply simming a season and seeing who gets all rookie team would have saved you all this arguing.

It does admittedly invite confusion, as many listings (as well as NBA Live) utilise the former definition/interpretation of the term while NBA 2K13 uses the latter. It threw me at first as well, as I was more accustomed to the "previous experience" approach to that data.

I see, me too, I was in the NBA Live frame of mind there... My work is still usable though by replacing the values in the YearsPro column with the numbers in skoadam's file so there are no 0s.

Thank you for letting me know! I simmed a season and the numbers were working and the game didn't crash but I didn't check the rookie awards. Although I won the logical argument because if you read it carefully you will see he was saying you CANNOT use 0 - which I tried and I knew it can be used (knowing back in the days we couldn't use it!). What he should have said to me was you SHOULDN'T use 0 because...and there goes the explanation. Any real patcher would have gave me the reasons because we help each other but someone who only compiles files from different sources and likes to go on with debates won't.

levynagy, i rather dont visit NBA 2k13 forum, sittin on Releasing subforum, but whoooa i see you still complaining. So first thing, remove your work with my rosters. U did not ask about permission. Recreate yourself your own roster file...ekhm no sry not create, u can only compile files from different source- because if i good understand i only compiles in your opinion. Waiting couple days and i ask admins to close this thread.
