Converting old art, 3d models, and files (pictures included)

Talk about NBA 2K13 here.

Converting old art, 3d models, and files (pictures included)

Postby TGsoGood on Fri Jun 28, 2013 12:20 am

2k13 is great game when it comes to gameplay, but let's not forget how most of us felt that it took a step back visually
with the textures and art. Some say 2k11 was the best graphically in this generation of 2k b-ball games others liked the
2k12 and 2k10 styles, but I haven't seen anyone saying that 2k13 is the best graphically... Because it is not.
Having said that, with all the innovation in the modding community I think this could be Most Modded game of this generation
basketball wise. 2k12's ultimate base roster is by far the most epic project yet but I think that there is potential for 2k13
to have an even greater project. There are still hidden Slam Dunk Contest files on the disc for crying outloud.

2k13 Now has:
NCAA and College Hoops
Backyard Basketball (all kid teams)
WNBA (All Female teams)
Girls in Open court (female and males)
All Pro Basketball (3 different tiers)
FIBA (and other international mods)
NBA street basketball mod
Retro Mods
All Time Rosters and Mods
Community Ballahz (male, female, kids, and old guys playing pickup)
Fictional CF's (including multiple Fictional Draft classes)
Customizable Soundtrack (one of my favorite additions thanks to Nesa and Leftos)
Full Court textures (another favorite thanks to R4zor)
....AND THIS COULD BE JUST THE START!!!!....

Let me show you what's hidden in 2k10 files
Image
Clothing files are hidden in 2k10 can they be used on the players, can they be hidden in 2k13? Do we already have My Closet in 2k10, 2k11, and 2k12?

Image
Even if you can't use the clothes from the sideline characters... Look at Bobbito's Clothes. He uses the in game player model... hmmm

Image

Image
A Local gym type arena

Image
Disregard the floor in the pic, I used a lo res floor just to test it

Image
Bleachers in the background? Yep that's Rutgers arena from college hoops still in the 2k10 game? Can it be converted

Image

Also hidden within 2k10 files are the ps2 street courts!!! Plus all the HD street Courts that you can already use in 2k10's blacktop...
For those of you who don't mind paying for a DLC on the PC I recommend modding 2k10 it has the Dunk Contest, game of 21, 3 point contest, and pickup games
all of which are just sitting there waiting for people to either convert the art and models to use in 2k13 (possibly 2k14) or
Revert back to modding 2k10 and playing it alongside 2k13.
I'm currently working on a HS mod for 2k10 that will use these hidden gyms. If my plan to convert faces from 2k13 back to 2k10 works then I will release
updated Dunk Contest Mods

goto 2K12, take s612.iff and use it in 2k12 or 2k13. That is 2k11's blacktop court and while it loads the player models dont.

If you can find player models or otherwise that are the same amount of vertices as current models, then yes we might be able to import them, but then we are limited by UV mapping issues. TBH, until we can breakdown and rebuild iff files to our liking, there isnt much we can do with non-compatible iff files.

As for the hidden 2k10 gyms, the _lo versions of the blacktop courts are the PS2 versions which are drastically different than the normal iff ones. You found the NCAA practice gym and the Rutgers arena. There is another NCAA stadium hidden, as well as the san francisco street court and the NBA 2K PS2 era practive gym (both are _lo). And there are a few others as well, see my blacktop revitalization mod for 2k10.

But in the end, we are still only moving things around in the models and importing new textures, and that is it. We aren't truly customizing the game yet.
Opinions are my own.

I found the clothing textures for those sideline guys in "dunk_contest.iff" file in 2k10, 2k12, and 2k13

so I recently convert the walls from a 2k10 court but have not had much luck with much else.
I used the Attack Athletics gym. I assume it worked because the walls had the same number
of vertexes and faces in both the 2k10 and 2k13 files but everything else is hitting a python
error in blender even when i "Decimate" faces of a 3d model.

I am not sure but I'm attempting to findout how to ad vertices. maybe that will work.

what I found useful was doing the "link" trick the same way CFs are converted
load the 2K13 model you are editing
then load the 2K10 model you want to "convert"
Select the objects you want to bring over to 2K13 (in pink object mode, not the blue/yellow edit mode)
in the main 3D panel where you edit press ctrl+L
click scene, then to the main N2KM one, not the .001 one.
then you need to delete the .001 scene at the top of the blender window, its an X next to a dropdown menu
then you can use snaps to "trace" an object already in the 2K13 model over the converted 2K10 one
then when you are done, delete the 2K10 object you linked by right clicking it

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwgDViwWwWg might help
I can do a tutorial on this after the weekend
Opinions are my own.

is somebody, anybody still working on this to convert to 2k13/14? would make the game so much more entertaining with variety. would be great for making highschool mods etc. i never even knew of these courts and stadiums in 2k10. great find, just hope we can see it in 2k13/14

it would be easier to make whatever you wanted

or recreate them from scratch
