Talk about NBA 2K13 here.

I've been thinking about this for quite a bit. Now that 2k13's Association is basically completely unchanged, I've decided to post this insane idea.
Instead of using the official association with its bugs and glitches, how about doing a DIY Association with excel and reditor?
Here's what I think could be improved (vs the in-game association) and a few basic, undeveloped ideas I have:
- Randomized and more realistic improvements and declines for players (=NORMINV(RAND(), mean, standard_dev) seems very useful)
- Player valuation (in trades, FA signings, how much to pay FAs, draft picks, anticipating FAs and drafts) could be more realistic
-- Fit and weaknesses would be taken into account (league averages, team strengths, GM biases make it such that a player is not always valued the same by every team, not quite certain at all how it should be implemented though)
- Popularity and success of teams would be a factor in how much resources they would have (to develop players among other things). Resource allocation would actually be a factor.
What do you think?

sounds good. I play association almost 90% of the time. Realistic improvements and declines would be welcomed, I usually have to go and edit players in my association due to players advancing too quickly or declining too slowly. I definitely agree players are valued differently by different teams but it is never portrayed as such in game. Do you have any idea how to make this work with excel and redditor. I have been playing my 2k10 associaton for almost 3 years now and I love it. 2k12 association was not good for me.

I only have bits and pieces and nothing solid yet.
As for the player valuation, what I'm thinking right now is each team would have a set of attribute requirements based on the coach. We would then compare the current minutes-weighted attributes.
Glaring weaknesses would be addressed by comparing attributes to league averages (or some kind of preset average).
To prevent the same decision from being made every single time, the RNG could be used to vary the decision.
In my opinion, better players would actually still be worth more as they fill more attribute requirements. Guys like Tony Allen and Dirk would also be valued a lot better with this (the OVR system just isn't kind to players who are VERY good at one or two things).
Modifiers like GM bias (using the RNG), popular players, whether a player is happy...etc. could be factored in.

Like I said it's still only bits and pieces.
I'm thinking Excel is nice because then non-programmers could also help.
I'm kind of just gauging the response right now.
