Demo Impressions, Screenshots & Videos (Now on XBL & PSN)

Talk about NBA 2K13 here.

Demo Impressions, Screenshots & Videos (Now on XBL & PSN)

Postby Leftos on Tue Sep 25, 2012 3:26 pm

The day is here! The NBA 2K13 demo is to be released today on Xbox Live (for Gold subscribers; Silver subscribers will be able to download the demo next Tuesday) and Playstation Network.

So, when you get your hands on the demo, make sure to post any and all of your impressions, screenshots and videos here! I won't be able to actually play the demo, so I can't wait to hear what you guys think.

Let's keep it clean, don't post things like "oh man can't wait for the demo", or "it's downloading now", or anything like that. Get the demo first, get a good feel for it, and come back to tell us what you think.

If you have questions about the demo, you can post your questions in this thread. This thread is only for people who've played the demo to post their impressions.

EDIT: As of now, 7:30am Eastern, the NBA 2K13 demo is up on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Not all users can see it yet, but it should soon be there if you hit Y to Search and type in NBA 2K13.

You can also
Go to the Demos section of Game Marketplace
Select "Genre"
Select "Sports and Recreation"
It should be the first on the page titled "NBA 2K13 Online Demo"

Bing didn't work for me
Opinions are my own.

As I said in the OP, let's keep it to impressions and media only, no posts that are just "downloading now" and "so excited" and the like. I'll let this one slide, just as verification that it's out, but from now on, any non-impressions posts will be deleted. First one to verify that the demo is up on PSN also gets to keep his post. :P

Ooops. Ahh. I'm sorry. My apologies.
I forgot about it.
My first impressions:
I used the kinect and all I have done for now is call screens. No delay so it's usable.
So far, I've attempted one alley oop from Chalmers to D Wade. Didn't work.
The stick feels smooth but needs a few games to get used to.
The game feels good and I like it. (Y)
You can hit up on the d-pad to see the sig skills btw.
No subbing in people. Not even asking to sub someone into kinect.

Recorded first game, converting, then uploading when done.

It feels a bit like Live 07 with the LT shoot trigger (FSS) and the RS dribbling is what I was concerned with, an animation chooser. NO where as responsive as Live RS dribbling. It also ques? up dribble moves, so if you spaz it, you can be stuck in animations.

AI gaffs, Perkins brought ball up court, couldnt pick up a made basket, unresponsive blocking, all in videos.

It doesn't feel like 2k12, despite looking like it, but I need tog et an online game in.
Opinions are my own.

First online game, crap fest. Recorded, will be up when ready.

Lots of blocking fouls (dont know if he was trying to get charges)
more unresponsive
some lag issues
more shooting fouls

you'll see, video after the other one is done rendering and uploading

I'm just going to try and get better at the game now before more recording.

Jao, needs, absolute, controls, for, RS, dribbling, PLEASE........1 week.

I think that will fix most of my problems, but RIP shot stick for me. LT+RS after using RS for dribbling is just not going to happen for me.

Can't say I like the AI flop by the Thunder player there, but that was a pretty sick move you pulled off.

Hope there's a Flop tendency we can decrease.

Good job on the Vid, Jao. From what I can see, the game looks slower and somehow "heavier" ... does it feel like that? Dribbling is looking better definitely, especiall when you try to go inside, the defensive animations are better.

They also put effort into the blending between a successful shot and the players reaction, seems very smooth. Its tough to say much about the gameplay since the sliders aren't adjusted.

I wont DL the demo, somehow I just want to w8 for the retail and then play all day & all night.

I would agree with this about it being heavier.

and do yourself a favor and do download the demo. You'll want to get a hold of these new controls asap

This. The demo downloaded very quickly for me. Probably thirty minutes or less. Now my impressions (having played about seven or eight quarters: a mixture of online and offline):

- #1 thing: X and A at the same time is probably the worst thing they could have done for the alley-oop. Hitting two buttons with your thumb just feels awkward and I don't think I'll every get used to it. I would rather have X and A be the bounce pass, and let LT + A stay the alley-oop. I don't think I'll intentionally bounce pass regularly, if at all.

- Even though my games weren't very laggy online, bringing up the player icons and just passing the ball was very unresponsive, with a noticeable lag in-between (like a half a second to a second). This was only online; offline it was fine.

- Just hitting B seems kind of weird for the signature animation, like you don't even do anything and you get this really great move to happen.

- A lot of collisions, which is a good thing. It's added realism.

- Yes, the game does feel a little heavier.

- The Perkins brick wall signature skill looked awesome. Chalmers got knocked on his ass hard when he tried to run through him.

- Wade has a new jump shot, which I like more than last year's. LeBron's jump shot looks worse in my opinion. 2K12 almost nailed it perfectly. 2K has always struggled with his jump shot though in my opinion. His, Wade's, and Bosh's free throws are the same as 2K12 (Bosh has the same jump shot too).

- And a question: In 2K12 if you held the left trigger and moved the left analog stick in a direction (if you were just standing and not dribbling), your player would do a jab step/triple threat move. I cannot figure out how to do this in the 2K13 demo. Does anyone know how to do it? I tried moving the right stick while standing still, but you just pick up your dribble, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't work if you hold the left trigger and move the right stick while standing there.

The game is fine/good. It's just good to have a change from 2K12, even with the new controls.

How are you guys going to go about alley-ooping? Your thumb on both X and A, or using two fingers (one on each button)? It's so awkward and the worst thing about the new controls (so far) in my opinion.

Just played 2 games one online one offline. Now I remember why I hate 2k demos. You'll want to get it like Jao said to master the new controls. It is a little heavier I think, but I did use MikeV's gameplay mods in 2k12 so I don't remember how the default 2k12 gameplay was.

Online wise, It was smooth. No lag, no problems of any kind. This is really good news. This is basically the biggest thing I got from playing the demo. Online seems solid, at least for me.

Again, controls are going to take some time to master. And tapping B doesn't do a fake pass... I need to figure out these controls.d

Graphics wise the game does not stand out at all. Chris Bosh still has the same face from 2k12. Shoes look very crappy (I didn't play 2k12 on xbox so maybe that's how they are). "Darker wood spots" still present in the game apparently, I could see a darker spot on the bottom part of the heat court by half court line (broadcast camera). Net physics are terrible.

Gameplay does seem better, more smooth. Bounce pass is cool. It's really hard to tell from the demo for me. I don't use broadcast camera ever so kinda hard to play the way I play with out 2k camera.

I thought I'd play the crap out of the demo, but not anymore. I'll play it here or there to get a feel for the controls, need the full game to make any real judgement.

I'm liking the sound of the game physics feeling heavier. (Y)

Thanks for the vids Jao and Mims. Mims, the graphics of the demo on your machine look amazing. I don't know whether that's because i've gotten used to PC graphics or if 2k13 improved.
