NBA 2K13 to have complementary Mobile and Social apps

2K Sports today announced plans for an NBA 2K13 mobile game, an extension of the console game’s career mode with a companion app, and a new social game for Facebook – all of which will be available in October.

NBA 2K13 will release on iOS (debuted on the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad last year with 2K12) and for the first time Android. While 2K12 featured the “Jordan Challenge” this time around it’ll be “NBA’s Greatest” mode. The game will also offer intuitive multi-touch controls, improved graphics, and a multiplayer mode via Bluetooth and Game Center (iOS only). No price has been announced but if it’s the same as 2K12 it’ll be $10 for the iPad and $5 for all other devices.

MyNBA2K is the free companion app that will be available on iOS, Android, and Kindle Fire. It’ll include some training mini-games like shooting practice, free throw drills, and a dribbling course that tie in with the MyCareer and MyTeam features on the console.

Then there is the Facebook game NBA 2K: MyLife. MyCareer players from NBA 2K13 can be imported to compete in skills competitions, build a home court environment, and play through various experiences encountered by an NBA superstar. Accomplishments within MyLife can result in unlocking clothing, dunk packages, and other rewards on the console versions.

I'll be curious to try out MyNBA2K on my Android phone and NBA 2K: MyLife on Facebook, but I don't expect much. It'll be fun to grab some skill points (or VC credits or whatever) while messing with my phone in bed or on the road or away from my computer in general. Here's hoping NBA 2K: MyLife is closer to You Don't Know Jack rather than any Zynga game on the "constantly pester you with things to pester your friends with" scale.

EDIT: Don't like that the "feeding data and experience back to NBA 2K13" in the first paragraph of the announcement only mentions X360 and PS3. Tweeted LD2k about this. Let's see.

Lol the one market that NBA Live could have seen a bit of success in, and 2k comes out and dominates that too.

Full-featured mobile version has been confirmed too. I've seen a couple of folks ask about that on our Facebook page, so they should be pleased with that. I might consider getting that version too now that I have an Android phone, something else to play on the go if I have to kill some time somewhere. I'll grab the app if nothing else since it's free, not sure if I'll bother with the Facebook game.

Android version would be good if you could take your PS3/XBox360 Association, which would have file in the cloud, & do simming, trades etc then it all syncs since file is in cloud

could be a great way to take your game on the road literally. I am very interested in this news, it adds depth to the game. Now if only we could have the DLC available for pc
