This.
Triple this notion.
Quadruple this notion.
Choosing different apparel is cool. I mean why not? But if that's what they meant by "this year we really focused on the off-court things in myplayer" then i'll be disappointed. Hopefully it's just a random small add-on that they don't try to hype.

I just hope we can´t get to 99 overall in 3-4 seasons...It should be harder and reflected how you play.It get´s boring fast if you can average 40ppg and 20 rebounds on your second season.

It's all down to difficulty and teammate AI. A high enough difficulty with good teammate AI that doesn't force me to just play the damn game by myself, should give realistic numbers, and realistic progression.

I expect they're building up to the meatier info, which hopefully includes details on how they've addressed teammate AI, grading and team management logic and any other glaring issues, along with noteworthy career and gameplay additions. Probably the way to go, if they talk about that stuff first they're left talking about stuff like this, which isn't going to have the same impact.
As for the Closet...cool, I guess. It allows a bit more customisation and personalisation, some extra personality for your player perhaps. Nice idea, but tough to get too excited about it.

Well - this is a quite nice addition to the game.
However I think Ronnie just played key games. In 4 seasons to get 99 from key games is quite easy I think.
I'm quite happy with the overall rating - still 78 when drafted is too high (and he was 13th pick). 78 should be a top3 pick.
And another thing - I hope they don't have the players they drafted originally. It was quite stupid to get drafted 9th overall in Bobcats and you still have K. Walker in your team.
Also another useful thing would be to allow import draft classes in my player.
When you are 78 overall I think you can get in to the starting line-up right away. Still about the rotation - if you have 3-5 great games as a substitute you should be become a starter.
About the AI. I hope with these signature skills, your player should be able to play as they usually do. Not like you're dominating and are the only one who gets the ball and score. Abusing the "ask for pass" button and the positions you get should have some negative impact - like some players are getting angry at you for hugging the ball and taking all the shots. You can only ask for the ball if you're the star of your team, if you're really the franchise player for your team and the team is built around you.
What else.. 2k has a very different view on how HOF difficulty should be. They are just giving bonuses to AI when the difficulty is high. I hope we have my player sliders this year.

Completely overhauled and rewritten!
Same ol crap.Rouziys wrote:What else.. 2k has a very different view on how HOF difficulty should be. They are just giving bonuses to AI when the difficulty is high.
This is basically all AI systems. It's really quite hard, almost impossible in a dev cycle, to actually produce an AI that can play down to a player. So you look at any game, 2K, Modern Warfare, Civ, etc. and they make the game harder by lowering your stats, boosting the stats of the CPU or both.
This is why so many sports games play "better" in terms of mimicking realism on more moderate or even lesser difficulties. (Even if you can just abuse the hell out of the game then.) Actual humans have flaws and make mistakes, an AI can easily be written to completely destroy and deny you, but who wants that? (A lot of NES game AI works this way for example.)
In My Player (or any player lock) you can especially exploit things.

Faux social media added to the game. You'll now be able to see fake tweets from fans (some more notable than others, apparently) about your performances and everything you do.

While I hate the idea, it does look pretty cool though. Definitely not a screen I'm going to be spending a bunch of my time on. Even the fan support or "My Buzz" from 2K12, what was the point in that? After you got on all the covers and whatnot in your first 2 seasons, there was nothing else to come of having high support. Make it mean something.
Fri Sep 07, 2012 5:09 am
2k should really add alot more relevant extra stuff to this mode to give you the feel that you're really in the shoes of your player

so far so good i guess

Please, improve the gameplay and implement a 29 game season for fucks sake. I would be fully satisfied.

AI in sports games has always been like that, Hall of Fame and All Madden break the system to give the opponent a huge advantage regardless what team you are or who the AI is. It's up to the player to decide if they want to face that kind of AI or look for the best "sim" styled AI, that lets player ratings and team ratings dictate the games progress (in 2K's case it's all-star, in some cases pro). To be honest in 2K11 and 2K12 the AI has been pretty good in helping me out aside for a few times where it does the usually dumb stuff the opponent AI never does. I somewhat find it annoying when people play on HoF and complain the game is doing everything possible to make you lose, that's the whole point... It may not be legit, but that's why there are other difficulty levels.
Fri Sep 07, 2012 5:57 am
what the hell is the point of this? to get your player popular? really? i thought the goal of an athlete was to win a championship. i stand corrected again, this is the most pointless thing i have seen for this game. please ronnie, you over grown child that has no clue about the needed features for 2k, post some more wardrobe pictures instead.

chicagoRAW, calm your horses.
Yes, 2K seems to be releasing information that does not pertain to your taste, and seems to be improving on factors of lesser importance, that yet would improve the immersion of the mode.
Everyone agrees that for the mode to be enjoyable it needs to have decent gameplay and options, besides the off-the-court immersion. But the calls for things to do outside of games have been pretty loud, they're really easy to implement, so why not do them?
The fact that they're showing us all this doesn't mean that they haven't improved teammate AI or whatever else you want to see improved. They're still ONLY showing screenshots, so changes like these are easy to show and promote through a single screen. Most of the things you're asking for require a developer diary and/or video, not screenshots.
Just wait until Friday. No need to overreact like this every time after a screenshot is released. I'm pretty sure Ronnie and 2K know what the real priorities of an enjoyable mode are, and they might have just as well worked on them, or not. There are positive signs already, including the alleged fix of the speed issue that plagues NBA 2K, so maybe they've heard all the complaints about teammate AI and everything else as well, and worked on them.
There is a point in giving players things to do off-the-court. A player's life involves off-the-court stuff as well, no matter the main objective of winning a championship. You're acting as if they've completely forgotten about that, before even reading the dev diary or even getting your hands on the game and playing the mode.
It's not pointless just because you say so. Even I'm not impressed by what I've seen so far, but I understand why they did those additions. I've heard people asking for them all too many times.
Again, and to summarize, just because they're saying they worked on these things, doesn't mean they haven't worked on things that matter the most to you and me. Getting your player popular and having a successful career are not mutually exclusive. We just have to wait until some proper information is released.

I saw people saying they got this idea from Madden, I never played it, so I have no idea. I agree with volsey, it's not a screen I will spend a lot of time on, but sure why not, some people may like it... It's more of a fun feature rather than an a relevant one. Notable Fans, that's where signing Jay Z comes in handy, I reckon.

Madden has something similar with ESPN analysts & talking heads on a twitter feed that's the main hub of your career or franchise

Features look really similar, but as many people have noted, Madden 13 and NBA 2K13 where in development at the same time. I doubt VC had the time to copy and implement the idea since it was announced for Madden. Either it's a coincidence and both companies worked at it during the same year, or a leak from one company to the other got the idea out.
In either case, it doesn't matter, unless we hear anything about a lawsuit, which I doubt 2K or EA would risk over such a minute feature.

If they put anything skip bayless related in nba2k13 i'll never buy that game

Not particularly useful, but I guess it contributes to the atmosphere of the experience somewhat. Seems we know why Ronnie was reaching out to celebrities earlier this year too, since they'll be faux Tweeting as well.
The latest screenshot shows off more player customisation, namely pre-game rituals.

If Kate Upton becomes a notable fan of mine, screw the championships. Don't care. Just give me Kate Upton. Seriously.
