Improving on RedLogic's Sliders

Postby Leftos on Thu Jan 19, 2012 1:59 am

RedLogic of Operation Sports made a slider set that plays quite great in my experience with it for about 10 games, much better than any other slider set I have tried, mostly because the CPU doesn't get stuck on waiting for plays to act out down to the shot clock's end, and because I'm seeing much more creativity out of the AI than usual, the CPU playing with real force, finding the open player quickly, exploiting mismatches, etc.

I'm releasing, with his permission, two slider sets. One is his original set, and the other one has some time-tested improvements I've got from other slider sets and applied to his set. My tweaks focus on removing CPU handicaps for things that shouldn't be handicapped, and some other stuff that I can explain if you have questions. I've done them while playing the game with his original slider set as a base, and only very few tweaks were applied without testing the original values, since they worked perfectly in other slider sets.

Both are for Shot Stick Timing.

If you have any questions about why a slider is like that in my set, do ask.

If you have any tips that you want me to try out and maybe incorporate into my set, tell me!

And most of all, please, reply with your experiences! They have really made (along with Alby's Realistic Roster) the game again worth playing, giving me great and exciting experiences every game, even in those that I find myself getting my bottom kicked. Well, I do play with the Pistons, and the rosters & sliders are supposed to be realistic, aren't they? :P

Leftos, 2 questions...

1. Can I use this on all-star
2. Did you provide your slider file someplace for download

I have tried the original slider and I thought it worked great with Alby's 1.2 roster. Can't wait to try it with 1.3

Thanks

Yes, you can try using it on All-Star, I've been hearing it works there too.

My slider file is up for download, check the download link, last row of the second column. I haven't put the original slider set by RedLogic up for download, but if someone wants it, I'll put that up too.

GREAT sliders man! Good job (Y) I really enjoyed playing using this and Alby's 1.3 roster

Some feedback thought:
- There were lots of fouls. So I changed the Charging, Reaching and Shooting fouls values back to Redlogic's official values.
- I saw some "teletransportation" here :P. eg. When I was driving to the hop sometimes the opponent did a REALLY FAST (beyond human capabilities :o)side step.

Only played one game, only a half actually. BOS vs TOR. So as I play more games I'll let you know more impressions.

I think that you (with the sliders) joining Alby (with the rosters) would be awesome as you guys would be editing using yours specific file. It would create the Ultimate 2K12 Simulation Gameplay

Cheers.

EDIT: BTW, I'm playing on All-Star

You were really unfortunate to encounter the teleportation bug, because in 10 games I've never had such an occurance, but I know it happens. Really rarely, and its occurences are much rarer than in other slider sets.

As for the too many fouls, only reason I upped them from RedLogic's original ones was because I wasn't getting enough fouls, but that could be just a matter of playstyle (if you play hard enough on offense to get fouled and if you're careful on defense). So whatever suits you best.

Glad you liked them though. Play more than one half and against different teams and their beauty can really show.

I'm testing these sliders right now and so far they seem excellent. (Y)

I have a couple of questions about your play style Leftos (if you don't mind) as it effects the sliders a lot:
1. Do you run a lot of set plays on offense?
2. Who do you control of defense, on-ball all the time or one player only?

The Pistons aren't a very creative team right now, so I always run a set play. If that fails, call for screen and drive. If I'm open, lay-up, or else have the defense collapse, pass for the 3.

On defense I'm mostly on the ball.

good thing you posted redlogic's sliders here. In my opinion, it's the sliders i really enjoyed playing the most. Good thing, you made your own version as well.

As for me, I used redlogic but adding a few tweaks on the 3pt and mid range for cpu. Made it 48-47 for both. hehe

homicide1550, I'm not sure of what changes are needed for RP%, but if my limited experience with it last year has taught me anything, turn up Inside, Close, Mid and 3PT 3-4 notches, and you should be fine.

If you find values that work well in RP%, post them here and I'll add them to the first post.

Hope you like them.

mpac, sure thing, I love those sliders too. Try mine for a game or two also, see if you get anything better or worse in comparison. All I've done is remove most CPU handicaps for a more challenging game, and add a few time-tested tweaks from other slider sets, such as the really good Hustle or the really low Consistency which causes players to go through hot and cold streaks more, just like real life.

No idea, haven't tried them yet. As much as I love the concept of leading my player to glory, the teammate AI always gets on my nerves and I end up giving up.

- is it suitable for Pro/All-Star difficulty level?

sorry, I didn't notice. btw, it works very well, I was using Hoop22's V3 and it worked quite well, but I still see some ridiculous sim stats after a game like 20/27 3PA, but with this I see some fixes here and there and 3PTs are no longer look bad (well, at least 2 games in a row now with 12 mins.). it was like 10/16, thx again Leftos..

No problem Anastasis. I have no issues with these sliders, they're the only ones so far I've felt no need to change.

Except, maybe tone down the stealing and blocks a bit. What do you guys think?

Very good so far, but I don't seem to get any offensive rebounds. I'm getting only 1-3 per game with Jazz (crash boards at 55). There's too many steals in some games, but the blocks are good imo.

(This game really needs more non-steal turnovers.)

Yeah, generally I'm struggling with Offensive Rebounds as well, so I was thinking of bumping up the slider a bit. I'll be coming back with a few changes later in the night, based on some recommendations over at Operation Sports, and my experiences with my new Association using Albys roster.

tried a game with these sliders using real player %, CPU got tons of steals but i think it was kinda my fault for forcing some passes. i agree that the Inside, Close, Mid and 3PT user sliders need to be increased a bit coz i was missing wide open jumpers with good shooters. will test it again and then make some adjustments.

These are for SST. It's a well known fact that you go 3-4 notches higher on each shooting slider with RP%.

great job m8. Using the same combination (sliders+albys rosters) and getting really nice games and realistic stats. Just some minor adjustments i made :

game speed 50. @ 40 seems like i was watchin a nba game in slow motion out of a replay ;p
pass accuracy @ 49/48. Need to see the ball going out of bounds sometimes out of a pass
dunk success 50. Coooooooome onnn i lost crucial open dunks @ 47 ;pP

btw. OMFG @ thunder & heat @ HOF.. I real pain in da ass.. ;D Going on good however, with my season with hawks, despite the fact i had to put 1 of my favourite player @ freee agents (horford) to make it realistic ;p

Cheeers !
