Re: [Tool] Keep My Mod v0.1.6

v0.1.6 released
The new version ignores any files that are included in modlists but haven't been updated by 2K yet. This will make the program avoid keeping mods that don't need to be kept since there's no conflict, and accelerate the tool in certain scenarios, such as when using modlists with a lot of files that haven't been updated yet.

I've tracked down the problem and will update the tool as soon as possible.

However, the tool isn't responsible for your NBA 2K12 not updating anymore. This error means that your NBA 2K12 couldn't update anyway the previous time you ran the game, so there's no "downloads" folder in your Online Data folder. This error just means that the tool can't find which files 2K has updated or not.

If you run the game and it can't update, that just means that you can't establish a connection to the 2K servers.

I'll say it one last time. The tool doesn't do anything that could alter any of your saves or settings (besides hiding the roster, which automatically gets re-created on the game's boot-up sequence), nor does it do something that would hinder your connection to the 2K's servers.

EDIT: I tried my best to break my game, deleting the downloads folder and hiding the rosters, but it still updated fine, with and without the tool. The problem is on your end. Download the new version however, 0.1.6.1, and inform me of any updates to your situation.

v0.1.6.1 has been released.

It fixes a bug that wouldn't allow the tool to start in the obscure scenario that the "Online Data\downloads" folder was missing completely.

Same download links as always.

About the Online Data folder, you can download another one manually: http://downloads.moddingway.com/file/18355.html

You can get the latest version of the tool from the links in the first post of this thread.

Your game should be able to connect to the 2K servers anyway, and update itself. It's not the tool's doing that your game isn't updating anymore. I don't know why that's happening. The file which keeps your 2K username is under the Saves folder, named "Settings.STG", and my tool never messes with any file inside the Saves folder besides the roster files.

I have absolutely no idea what's going wrong. You downloaded the online data, didn't use my tool, and still didn't get the latest shoes? How is that even possible? I'm out of ideas, really. I use my tool every day, in every scenario possible, with internet, no internet, with Online Data, without, and always get the latest rosters and online data again from the game when the internet's on.

Re: [Tool] Keep My Mod v0.1.6.1 + v0.1.7 Experimental

Postby Leftos on Mon Jan 09, 2012 6:47 am

v0.1.7 released in the experimental channel.
This new experimental version copies the new content 2K adds to the game to the game's installation folder, to make sure the game finds the files it needs even during re-syncs.

That means that when you've downloaded a roster that has a player wearing his new shoes that 2K added to the game via Online Data, the game will always be able to find the shoes, since they'll be in its installation directory, even if it's re-syncing its Online Data!

At least, I hope it works that way! :P

First of all, don't reply just below a post you've already made. Edit it and put any additional information there.

Second of all, you've hit a scenario I haven't handled, and thanks for that. An update to the tool will be put up today.

To ad or not to add? How?

Postby 123rockstar on Tue Jan 10, 2012 1:08 am

Hi Leftos,

I dont want 2k updates to overwrite my file shoe_301_00.iff, but I cant find a way to find that file in "Online Data Browser". In that way I can place the shoe_301_00_.iff in the column below.
Image

Correct me if I am wrong, "Keep My Mod Tool" watches for new updates, and until then we can then decide whether to allow the updates or not.

Because I was thinking, I had to add all my modded files in the "above column" first, so that when updates come, I dont need to worry.

[Question]
-when 2K Updates come, "Keep My Mods Tool" wont automatically apply those updates right?
-how do we know that there is an update? Do we have to keep checking the "Online Data Browser" to know if New Updates are available?
-how do we know if the Updates are better or worse than the Modded ones? (So we basically allow the updates, and if its worse, put back our modded ones?)

[Suggestion]
-Option Feature to add your modded files. ( In that way we have an idea that we have "that" file modded, and dont want 2K Updates to replace them)
-Option Feature to inform us that New 2K Updates are Available.

Thanks for reconsidering Leftos. :bowdown2:

Re: [Tool] Keep My Mod v0.2

Postby Leftos on Tue Jan 10, 2012 4:22 am

v0.2 released!

Thanks for your feedback. I took some of your ideas in consideration, fixed some bugs, and have just finished v0.2. Before I go ahead with the release announcement, I beg you to read the "For Modders" section of the readme. In order to add mods to that column, click on "Create Modlist" at the main screen, select the files you want to remain modded, give your modlist a name (don't change the folder it's saved to), and you're done.

Considering your suggestions, I've added two things.

First, the Online Data Browser now looks like this:

Image

The last column represents files that the tool knows that it has to keep modded, but hasn't done anything with them yet, since 2K has released no updates for them, and there's no need to copy them into the Online Data folder.

Second, the tool now keeps a log of the files inside the Online Data folder, and if between re-syncs it finds any changes, it will report them in the log as well as make the default Windows beep. That way you can study your log (by saving it and using a text-editor) for the words "UPDATE!" or "NEW FILE!", so that you know what's new in 2K's updates, what's updated, what update you may want to remove from the Kept Mods list and want to see how 2K did, what file that you haven't put in the Kept Mods list you should now put, etc.

Oh, and another thing, I've signed up and can now receive donations via Paypal. A hello and a thank you in a reply here are more than enough, but if you'd consider donating even just 1 [insert your currency here], it'd make for a great incentive to keep working hard on these tools and make your gaming experience even better.

Look. Keep a backup of your Saves folder, and delete the original. Uninstall my tool completely. Start the game and see if it connects. Create a new My 2K account, see if it connects.

I have no other ideas. I've had no reports similar to yours, and can't for the life of me figure out why your game won't even connect to the 2K servers. I'm using the tool as well, haven't stopped using it, and I've used MUCH more broken versions than the one you have, versions that were in the middle of development. Haven't lost my connection to 2K, not once, unless the servers were down.

Re: [Tool] Keep My Mod v0.2.1

Postby Leftos on Thu Jan 12, 2012 3:45 am

v0.2.1 released!
- Tried to fix a bug in the algorithm that checks when 2K has updated one or more files in Online Data
- Offers more information during re-syncs, such as files downloaded, MBs downloaded, current speed, and also, if the tool has kept history of 2K's Online Data, it shows a timer that counts down until the re-sync finishes, based on the last calculated size of the Online Data folder; this timer should be off only if the game is doing a re-sync that will end-up in a different Online Data folder size than before, but usually not by much
- Fixed a bug that would report more ignored files than parsed

Screenshots
Image

=====================================

v0.2.1.2 released!
- Fixes bug that would crash the tool when speed of re-sync reached 0 (on a connection failure or if the game exited during a re-sync)
- The tool now properly detects if the game is running and removes the "Re-syncing..." prompt if the game's closed; also deletes the "Cache\patches" folder in that case, so that the game doesn't find itself in the middle of a re-sync on boot, thus starting faster

v0.2.2 released!
- Improved the algorithm that checked whether a 2K Online Data file was updated; it's now based on the CRC of each file, rather than the size
