Any player missing from NBA 2k10 or 2K11 would do fine. For example Yao Ming

I'm interested in having rosters as from 2007-08 season onwards (we already have excellent portraits from NBA 2k9 for such players).

We would only need the cyberfaces for them.

A question if I may, are you strictly focusing on more current players? I would LOVE a Ralph Sampson, Calvin Murphy, and Rudy Tomjonavich. My all-time Rockets are severely lacking.

You just need to create the player with 2k12 Create A Player, give the player raitings you want. Then save, the give him CF with Alec CF tool.
