Playing NBA 2k12 on my Laptop ??

Postby DboyCluttch on Wed Mar 27, 2013 6:09 am

First off, I was not too sure of where t oput this thread in terms of technical support etc. So if i am wrong im sorry & please move it if needed.. Now I am interested in seeing what playing nba 2k12 is like, people say that its much more enjoyable than on a game console becuase of all the modifications, patches, and other goodies you have access to while playing on a PC. Now I checked if I could "run it" on my laptop, using that website that checks your systems hardware capabilities to play a certain game. Everything checked out fine/good but basically becuase I have a stock Video card it 'failed' me because of the stock video card (Intel HD Graphics 3000), sort of discouraging me to even try to play it.

BUT, other games I have, are playing on my PC have failed this "system requirement" test before but I play them currently on great settnigs even really high settnigs fine, my video card has proven to be fine for them. Games such as World of Warcraft etc. So my question is will my laptop setup be able to handle NBA 2k12 decently, on good settings, I hope I do not have to play on low low settings thats just no fun and decreases gameplay value In my opinion.

Being confident, some of you all on here may have the same or close PC set up I have, you could possibly give me a baseline answer to if I can play this game fine on my laptop. Right now I will post all my laptops specs in hopes maybe I can play this game with good settings & enjoy it almost as much as I do on my Xbox 360.

Laptop Specs;

OS- Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
CPU- INTEL Core i5-2430M 2.4 Ghz
Graphics- Intel HD Graphics 3000
Screen- 17.3"
Memory- 4GB DDR3
Hard Drive- 500 GB
Optical Drive- DVD SuperMulti
CPU Support- 3MB L3 Cache, Max Turbo Freq. 3Ghz

Thanks alot guys for any helpful insight. (:

It's about NBA 2K12, so it belongs in the NBA 2K12 section. General Talk is for off-topic chatter, basically a place to talk about anything that doesn't have its own subsection. ;)

The video card is definitely the area where you'd run into problems. You could give this a try:

No guarantees that it will work and aesthetically speaking the experience won't quite be the same as playing the game on a system with a better video card, but it might be a viable solution.

So basically I will be able to play 2k12 on my setup, but with mainly low settings, making it not look as good aesthetically. Providing in less than exciting gameplay ? lol

LOL Grr.. But I play WoW 9World of Warcraft) on this 'top on all high settings, some even on "ultra" and it looks beautiful, 30-40 fps. Hmm is nba 2k12, 2k13 THAT much more taxing, graphics wise etc ??

Yeah, based on the games benchmark on your graphics card, it is a low-end card. See this http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-3000.37948.0.html. World of Warcraft is not a demanding game in terms of GPU, that is why you can run it well. NBA is more CPU intensive but still requires atleast a mid-end card.

What kind of processor are you talking about? Pentium 4? Dual Core? Quad Core?

You'll probably be able to run the game, but performance won't be fantastic. You can get a rough idea of whether you can run it (and other games) by using this site:

NBA 2K12 actually puts more pressure on the CPU than the GPU, so your laptop being a P4 is more of a concern. I really couldn't say what kind of FPS you'll get, but it'll certainly need to be on the lowest settings to get any kind of decent performance.
