Probably editing your save externally, though you do run the risk of messing things up.
As far as legitimate strategies are concerned, I'd suggesting creating a player that plays to your strengths and suits your style of play. Getting higher teammate grades and having consistent good performances will encourage your coach to give you a shot at starting games, though it depends how deep your team is at your position.
