Your opinions on 2k12 (To purchase or wait for 2k13)

Postby Its_asdf on Sun Aug 19, 2012 9:41 am

Well, I've got a used copy of 2k12 that I can purchase from my friend at a discount, but with 2k13 not too far away I am curious as to whether this game is good enough to warrant a discounted purchase.

So a few questions I have to ask everyone are:

Are there any bugs/glitches I should be aware of? Can these be easily ignored/fixed?
What are the best/worst aspects of association mode?
What are the best/worst aspects of the gameplay itself?
Is this playable with only a keyboard or would I need to purchase a game pad?
and of course Would it be worth it to buy it now at a discounted price or wait until 2k13?

Keep in mind that I have not played a 2k game since 2k10 and I have not played association mode since 2k9. I am primarily interested in playing association mode so I put any pros/cons regarding that mode in high regard. How good/bad the actual gameplay itself takes precedence of course. Not too big of a stickler for any of the other game modes or changes in rosters since that can be easily patched.

Thanks for your help guys. I am aware that not much has been announced regarding the features in 2k13, but I feel that you guys have had almost a year's worth of experience on 2k12 so you can be a better judge as to whether 2k12 is worth a delayed purchase.

Skip 2K12 because the Stat keeping in that game is bullshit. You are going to either lose some stats completely or see horrible stats like teams averaging 80 APG, 30 TO.

Also during the game when the player is on the freethrow line, the only stat that is displayed correctly are PPG, other stats like RPG and APG are incorrect. This takes away from the overall feeling of building a team of players from the start.

So I say skip 2k12 since 2k13 is around the corner.

The gameplay also has major faults like big men being able to keep up with stellar ball handlers on the perimeter and overall speed rating is pretty much a non factor in determining who runs the length of the court the fastest

Since I love simulating the NBA I have learned to live with these problems but you shouldnt because the newer game is around the corner.

The best part of the game I would say is the Post up controls. It feels a lot better than 2k11 and there is a lot less of the fadeaway turnaround cheese from unskilled players down on the low block.

Right now it's too late for 2k12. All the buzz about 2k13 makes 2k12 sound like easports made it. Save your money, wait till 2k13 comes out and you wont regret it.

How much is your friend letting you have it for? If we're talking something in the range $10 and you're keen for a virtual basketball fix, I'd say it's worth the loose change.

Having said that...if you're looking to get into an Association, it might be better to just wait as you'll probably find yourself abandoning your 2K12 Association in less than a couple of months time, assuming you're keen to get NBA 2K13 shortly after it drops.

Whatever you do, definitely invest in a dual analog gamepad of some description. That's the kind of controller that the game is primarily designed for, a keyboard is not going to afford you the optimum experience and quality of control.

If he is selling it for more than 10 dollars, just put that money towards 2K13.

We're not that far from 2K13. Save your money, grab 2K13 and an X360 pad.

I wasn't planning on purchasing 2k13 afterwards had I purchased 2k12 but that doesn't look like it will be the case. He wanted to sell it to me for 25 dollars. Bowdown pointed out a lot of flaws that would probably crush a lot of my enjoyment for the game.

Thanks for the input guys.

lmao, some friend. It's $14 new on Amazon.

And hopefully 2K13 will only be $30 again.

By "friend" I mean some guy I randomly met at some guy's apartment one time who was a friend of a friend and I may have been somewhat drunk.

tell him he should be ashamed of himself for trying to rip you off. He probably bought it for 19.99 himself since that was the Pre-Order cost at one point too.

25 bucks! You can get it brand new for 20 bucks at this point. I love 2k12 but only after I fiddled with the sliders, before that I hated it. You have to increase your on ball defense slider, decrease your steal success slider and for the love of god TURN OFF CLUTCH FACTOR.

To be honest, I would also wait on 2k13 and see what people here have to say about it. There are SO many game-killing bugs/glitches in 2k12 that I feel ripped off paying $10 for this game.
