How to change my player difficulty

As the thread title says.

Do I change it in main menu then advance to my player, my guy can hardly land a shot in the paint ><

Well, lowest difficulty is Pro, and you can change it in the main menu of My Player mode. If you are still having trouble, you can help yourself with Custom sliders for My Player. You can find here a good tutorial how to do it.

You can edit the difficulty in the main menu of My Player, you won't be able to get to that menu until you get past the draft though.
