2K Online Data Updates Log (The BIG Screwup, Mar 2)

I'm starting this thread to inform you of big online data updates, whenever 2K does one. Creating and using the Keep My Mod tool I've gained a good understanding of how 2K's Online Data updates work.

We have NBA Today which is updated daily, NBA Today Live Feed which seems to be a live stream since it gets updated almost every time the game connects to the servers for a resync, Shoes which get updates on store release dates of the real shoes, Rosters which have had 11 updates so far, and the most sparse updates of all, the big Game Art updates.

There's already a thread by Andrew which keeps track of Roster Updates, so what this thread will keep track of are the big Game Art updates. Remember that you can keep track of updates yourself by using Keep My Mod (link in the sig)! Keep My Mod also offers you the ability to bypass 2K's updates with your mods; for example, to keep using your modded Pistons court even after 2K's update, which also disables whatever mod you've installed.

Yeah, that's the Online Data version as it seems. My guess is it's checked on both players when going online to check that they have all the same art and avoid crashes related to that.

Nice idea, appreciate the efforts.

Apparently the audio update includes correct speech for Metta World Peace, eliminating the Artest and Number 15 references. I haven't checked that out myself as yet though.

2K decided to update nearly all files of the Online Data Update we had so far. The clue I had was that the game was resyncing for too long, so here's the log from Keep My Mod.

As you can see, nearly all files were updated, there's no _lo files anymore, and plus, what the hell is the dlc_catalog.iff update? Are we getting DLC on the PC after the patch? Is another DLC coming for console users? Mind-boggling update.

We got the PS3 Online Data Update ladies and gentlemen. I have no idea what the reason is. Do the PS3 files even work for us?

EDIT 2: Nope, they don't.

Try playing at the Pistons home court or the Raptors home court after getting the update. Floor's a black texture.

Floors don't work, shoes don't work, commentary doesn't work anymore.

Things are just getting greater by the minute. We even have PS3 bugs now! Loading my Association from the Home screen crashes the game, while loading it from Load/Save doesn't!

YAY!

And I can't even make Keep My Mod fix the game for me, because now the game treats Online Data differently and locks its handles on the files so I can't move them, the tool just crashes. GREAT! WE CAN'T PLAY 2K12 AT ALL!

When was the Data installed exactly? How can i find out if i still have the old data? I did not play since about 8 hours.

I don't know exactly, I just know that it's the Online Data being delivered right now. Only solution I can think of is to delete the Online Data folder and disconnect your PC from the internet or block NBA 2K12 using a firewall rule.

To know which update you have, go to %APPDATA%\2K Sports\NBA 2K12\Online Data\downloads and check your version.txt file. If it starts with WIN32DX, just disconnect your internet. If it starts with PS3, first delete the folder, then disconnect your internet.

Yeah, I'm downloading the latest proper Online Data update from Andrew's download right now. Maybe with the game disconnected and the right files in the Online Data folder I can keep the right updates and avoid having the PS3 update forced on me.

Yeah I figured I wasn't the only one when that happened to me just now so I came here and I'm not surprised we all have the same problem. So does this mean everything that 2K gave us overrighted the files we have meaning we have to redownload ALL the mods that 2K has overriden?

Nope, 2K doesn't overwrite any files in the installation folder. As I said, the silent downloads go to %APPDATA%\2K Sports\NBA 2K12\Online Data\downloads.

You can delete that folder and replace it with the latest proper one that Andrew has posted, and also make sure to not allow the game to connect to the internet.

Your mods will still be there.

Problem has been identified by dev team, Chris Manning of 2K Sports has just told me. He'll get back to me when he hears from the devs on a timeline.

Should be easy enough to fix, but then again, so would the Team Stats bug.
