Using more RAM?

I've recently gotten into Skyrim and one of the better patches out there is a patch that increases the games usable RAM from 2 to 4 GB. Of course the game was built for 2 GB so it didn't really make a difference until you start piling on the mods with much higher resolution textures and things of that nature. Now using 4 GB stabilizes the game tremendously, at least for me.

It got me thinking about doing the same for 2k12. How much does ram does 2k utilize by default? I'm sure in a game like this the increased RAM likely wouldn't make too big of a difference, but I'm curious as I have 16 GB of RAM, and it feels like a waste not to be using more of it. Thanks!

Both games are 32bit applications and you won't be able to use more than 3-4 gb of ram out of them even with hacks. Did you even try that patch with 2K12?

I tried it. Compared the hex after and no changes were made to the file.

Yeah I didn't try it yet. Thanks for checking though Jao, shame nothing changed. I didn't really see it making too big a difference in a game like 2k, but figured I"d ask anyway.

This thread is old but I was also interested about this. Although Skyrim is a 32-Bit application i did see improvement when I used the hack/patch with Skyrim. I had a lot of mods, and just from the stock game the menu lags a lot (aka load, save, stat, etc.) When I ran the game through the patch/exe the lag disappeared.

I also have 16GB of RAM on my PC because it was on sale for about $40 early this year or late last year. I would love to utilize it in 2k13 also now that it is released. Time to research

The 4GB patch the OP presented is not the one I used. Mine was directly from steam I think or another big modding website.

That patch was needed for skyrim because it did not take advantage of the memory out of the box.
