NBA 2K12 Quick Impressions & Questions

Has anyone else gotten the real life helicopter flyby of the arena in between the 3rd and 4th quarters? Got it with the Hornets at home, but it looks like they have movies for Clippers, Lakers, Warriors, Mavs, Cavs, Bobcats, and Hawks too.

Didn't know that passing while using turbo would result in a "fancy pass"?

I don't consciously know that I use turbo while passing on a two on one break, but I'd assume so. Doesn't really result in fancy passes for me, but normal passes that get deflected.

I also haven't really noticed any changes in passes when holding down turbo.

Yeah, it doesn't happen every time you do it and players with a high tendency for that seems like the only one capable of executing it.

In 2K11 I probably didn't get a tenth of turnovers on fast breaks that I get in 2K12. It annoys me, because - once again - I can't make my guy throw a bounce/chest/lob/whatever-needed-in-particular-situation pass. So if you still don't have 2K12 and haven't experienced that, I don't think you're in a position to be calling me a loser or whatever you'd like to.

Played against Orlando last night and it felt great. They were killing me with their signature style of passing the ball down low and then getting it out to their shooters.
Also pretty cool, Dwight had two really nice alley oop plays, both in the halfcourt offense. Looked like out of their playbook, don't know if they have alley plays in it.

The Helicopter angle is really nice. I also had a nice call against the Bobcats: Tyrus Thomas tried to block the ball and somehow he swatted the ball from under the basket through the hoop resulting in a violation call, dunno what it said exactly, but I got the ball afterwards.

Is it like 2K11 where plays are designed by position and not by player, and so teams like Toronto and formerly Utah with 3pt specialist Centers will have their big men on the perimeter a lot.

Got to play game for first time last night. It's solid. Legendary mode is a nice touch but after unlocking teams I doubt I'll play it much aside from the odd game against friends. I think most of the gaming will go into Association & My Player, which I haven't had a chance to look at. Controls have changed quite a bit so will have to get use to them. Game is looking like an 8.5 maximum, maybe an 8.0 out of the box given My Player issues & no improvement to Association mode.

- The changes to the defensive controls have basically meant I've gotten killed on dribble penetration. Took me three games to figure out how to slide quicker.
- The spin move is unguardable, and it's bad enough that the CPU is abusing it but when it's 1965 Jerry West...no. Just no.
- Does the sprint button do anything? I don't seem to go any quicker, and it's impossible to catch up with the player running the ball up the floor.
- Passing into the key is impossible. It gets picked off every single time, and if the off-ball defender isn't in a position to do so the on-ball defender will magically drop back and pick it off. Fast breaks are impossible, the ball gets intercepted every time unless someone's in position for an alley-oop.
- The 1960s visual presentation is all well and good, but it makes it very difficult, at times impossible, to see the PlayVision.
- I thought the commentary was going to be altered for the 1960s games as well?
- How do you trigger throwing the ball out in front on the dribble? I can't do it when I want to, but when there's someone standing right in front of me, it happens all by itself.
- Good to see we can finally sub between quarters. Racing to get a few subs sorted in the final few seconds was a pain.

Yeah... when I'm a 6'3 PG with 83 speed and can't catch up to Greg Oden going coast to coast, there must be something wrong here.

Press the sprint button while moving. If you were pressing it before, let it go for a split second and press again. It only works in the backcourt.

My Player is a hell of a lot better this year. It's good that if you get 'good shot defense', you can't get 'allow man to score'. That was probably my biggest issue with it last year.

On the other hand, I'm playing for the Knicks.

The mode is funner this year for sure. It's just that the trades make it not fun after you play enough games.

The more I play it , the more frustrated I get. Never had it with 2k11. Passing and defence are major f*ck up this year. Better do not start on commentary. It makes me sick already and I played only 10 games yet.
Maybe its just because im still learning the game, but as i said it was not the case with 2k11.

In asocciation mode stats are f*kd up as well. Some teams gets 80 rbs a game or 50 blk a game. O players +/- is 54 and so on.

Fastbreaks 2 on 1 , to many times the ball gets stollen. Bullshit.

The fastbreak is just ridiculous. Unless you make a pass to your teammate while the defender is 2 feet away from you it will get picked off over and over again.

I know what you mean. My 3pt specialist SF (worst ball handler I've ever created so far) had to play PG for quite some time (inevitable turnovers really ruined my performances during that games). Oh I forgot to mention that I played in backcourt alongside Monta Ellis who played SG...

First time playing My Player?

At least the minutes per game finally make some sense this year. Even if it still has the "dominating the game like Wilt? LOL UR SITTING THE ENTIRE FOURTH" thing.

O players +/- is 54 and so on.

I actually figured this out, it's a hilarious bug. You can see it clearly in My Player/CAL, if you finish a game, your +/- will be accurate on the player card, if not, it will be insane like +80, it, like some of the other stuff is broken if you aren't on the court when the game finishes.

Thank god this issue only popped up last year after working perfectly in 2K10 so they had time to fix it! (Oh signature highlights how I miss you. I demand to see every single one of my baskets and assists after ever game!)

First time playing My Player?

Nope, but I didn't play it enough last year to really be bothered by playing the 2 all game.

Also, blocking a shot right back to the shooter results in 'Blocked Shot' and 'Allow Offensive Rebound', which cancel each other out almost exactly.

Just want to mention again that little ad that plays in the left corner. It's the one with the players highlighting an upcoming game.

When playing 2K12 am I supposed to be watching a game, or playing a game? The presentation is mixed between the two. The ad even happens when presentation is set with announcers off, and other tweaks to help it seem more like playing the game.

coach settings do that I believe. I think there was a feature or something on operation sports about it.

Just found out the hard way they they removed the Situation game mode from the game this year (choose time left on the clock, score, etc). Not the must used mode ever but still missed....

I've discovered that you don't need to replay the entire game when a completed NBA's Greatest game has been marked as incomplete again. Just enter the game and exit it straight away and it'll once again be marked as completed and the teams unlocked. Still a sloppy bug for the game to have been shipped with, though.

I have a problem ... when I have no internet (very often with my internet provider) the game will not start - shows black screen, as soon as the interNet appears ... If i play the game in this time - game freezes until the moment when internet appears again ... i try different versions and repacks of the game, bot nothing work ... Help!

Man, I'm so bummed out! I had an awesome game last night with Dallas against OKC. Westbrook was ripping through the defense all game long until he fouled out mid 4th quarter. With him out, I came back from a 14 point-deficit and cut their lead to 3 with about 12 seconds to go, but no timeouts. So naturally, I foul Maynor who surprisingly misses both free throws. Marion grabs the board, passes it to Kidd who paces down the court. I make a quick hesitation move and penetrate to the rim when I notice Dirk making a beautiful cut through the zone, using an off-ball screen by Marion and heading for the arc. Imagine the gleeful smile on my face. The clock is down to 2 seconds when i pass the ball to Dirk. AND WHAT DOES THE STUPID FUCKER DO??? While the pass is in the air, he stops running towards the three-point-line just a foot short. When he catches the ball, I desperately try to reach three point land, but it's about 0.5 seconds too late when he shoots ( and -to add to my frustration- makes ) the 3. Seriously, WHAT THE FUCK!? I thought that momentum was so important in 2K12. Then why in Jesus H. Christ's name does the guy awkwardly stop running when he doesn't even need to? My timing on the pass was spot on. If everything would have gone like it should have (I've been doing those in-and-outs a lot lately, works like a charm), I'd have been fine with just missing the shot and therefore losing the game. But this is bullshit. I swear, this game will never stop fucking with me.

Rant over. I still love 2K12 with growing passion, but it's moments like this that make me wonder why I don't just play the Sims 3 instead.

Anyone else seeing CPU with really bad shot selection/time management late in games & late in shot clock? Maybe it's just the Greatest mode, which I was playing all last night whilst waiting for updated rosters, not sure.

Definitely a nice change, but it doesn't fix all. Let's say a sg has a post up play with a big spreading the floor. Now he gets traded to a team where there are no bigs that spread the floor. leaving Joel Pryzbylla spotting up for three.
