Trying to get prepared......

Postby dshay7 on Sat Sep 10, 2011 2:50 pm

Like all of you, I'm really pumped about 2K12. Looks like it's going to be great.

I've been a PC gamer for quite a few years, and I don't have any desire to get a console. I know a desktop PC would probably be better to game on, but I travel a great deal, so I have to use a laptop. I have a 2007 Dell Inspiron, so needless to say, my gaming hasn't been all that great since about NBA 2008 or so.

I'm finally in a position to upgrade......what kind of laptop should I get? What would be great for gaming, with all the right specs I need for a smooth looking and great playing NBA 2K12? My wife wants me to get a Mac, and the main reason I keep refusing is because I wouldn't be able to play NBA 2K12 on it!

If you were going to get a nice gaming laptop, what would you get? (And don't say Alienware....that's a little out of my price range.) Is it possible to get something decent in the $1000 range?

Thanks for any advice you guys can offer.

This might fit your needs. Core i7 with 8 GB of RAM with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M.
Wish I had your budget man. :cheeky:

if you got $1000, you should try and find one that has a dedicated graphics card, and not a M aka Mobile version.
Opinions are my own.

I game on my Acer Aspire 7750 it has true HD and played NBA 2k11 at about 90fps max settings. I got it for $930 it also played the battlefield 3 alpha at about 46fps. The graphics card is a HD 6850 and processor is an i7 (was hard to find most are i5).

Thanks for the help, guys. I appreciate the input.

So, does the Acer do pretty well for other standard computer functions? No offense, but I always kind of thought Acer was like an off brand or something, since it seems to be one of the only computers that Walmart carries. But if it's really as good as you say, I'll definitely check it out.

dshay7, It is good for video editing and it doesn't overheat like my mac book. It can run multiple programs easily and maintain its speed. The webcam is decent if you want to video chat however you should go to a computer store and check it out yourself and other laptop demos.

I have a Mac and I play NBA2k12 on it via Bootcamp as well as Mod the files on it. I'm running a 2011 MBP with Thunderbolt, 2.3GHz Quad Core i7 &8GB Ram. They switched over from NVidia to AMD Radeon HD 6750M's on this model. I'm VERY happy with it since I can boot it up via Mac OSX and take care of my business (DJ) and boot it up as a windows 7 and have a DEDICATED computer just for NBA2k11. That and the fact that I had Photoshop and 3DSMax for Windows made me happy (Y)

Dang, man! You just made my decision that much tougher! Now that I know I can play it on a Mac, I'm going to have to up my budget! :D

I knew that you could run Windows on a Mac, but I wasn't aware that it would play Windows games as well. Thanks for the input.

handlez, thanks man. I'll check out the Acer as well.

You'll need to buy W7 at best buy or something and install it via bootcamp. DO NOT run it as a virtual machine using Parallels or VMware. It's like running two OS's at one time. Slows your computer down like crazy, using bootcamp you choose what OS you want to start of in.
