"Definitive" NBA 2K12 Preview (Dime Magazine)

Thu Aug 25, 2011 10:53 am

Check it out here:
http://dimemag.com/2011/08/dimes-defini ... 2-preview/

The post-up button has been switched to “Y” on the Xbox controller, so you don’t have to worry about randomly jump-stopping or speed bursting by accident. Crossovers are a little less herky-jerky and one-on-one moves are even more varied, allowing for smooth transitions and changes of player direction. Even cooler is the speed dribble, which, when employed, makes the player push the ball out in front of him. Just as in real life, a guy dribbling at full speed has very little change of direction abilities. Even more, you can chase a ball out of bounds and dive into the crowd or over the scorer’s table.

Smoother player movement isn’t the only in-game upgrade – your teammates actually move without the ball. Even if you don’t run a play, expect more screens, players demanding the ball in the post, etc. I’ve never been a guy to use organized plays, but sometimes I had to simply because going one-on-one on the higher difficulties is, well, difficult. Now you can have that true, innovative NBA feel where player creation and imagination fuels the action.

Sounds good to me.

When I had a chance to preview NBA 2K12 this week, I honestly came in ready for a let down.

I was already ready with a let down in reading his review because of this...

So far all reviews I've across NBA 2K12 left me with the impression that the reviewers probably spent only 5 minute quarters playing one game and combined playing hours of only half a day with their 2K11 experience.

The big question in my head is whether CPU controlled superstars play like superstars. In NBA 2K11 it was easy to shut down Kobe, for example, because the Lakers only ran a few plays. After a few games of memorizing those plays, Kobe was done. It was easy steals and cutting him off, always anticipating where he would go on the court.

It was the same for any superstar. The first time I saw them it was tough, but by the second half I always knew where they were going and when they would get the ball.

These aren't reviews, these are previews.

So they probably played only one quarter.

In reviews they WOULD play a full five minute quarter game and then also look at the things in the menus just to make sure they don't reword something off the PR sheet that's not actually in the game.

9.3! The best basketball game of the year, a must buy for fans of the sport!

The way I see it...

preview = before embargo is lifted
review = embargo lifted

So when the embargo is lifted and time for them to give out a review, they'll just copy, paste, and reword their preview and add some more things which shows more their lack of knowledge about the game/series whatsoever.

God, you're dumb.

preview = before game goes gold, 90% PR, 8% hype, 2% facts
review = gold version of the game, 85% PR, 0-15% hype or hate.

You can't wait to review something until after the embargo, so you have to score it above the threshold beforehand so you can post the review first.

It's like we have to explain the simplest things to you Phillapinos. Even concepts that have been established for over three hundred years like video game reviews.

you're just mad because the only next gen console you own is a Wii which has more shovelware than PS360 combined.

you should really go back and play some current gen games on the xbox1/PS2, make you mellow out again.

No, once embargo is lifted, you can post the preview, hence all the previews that are showing up around the same time. A preview is just a pr rep letting you play the game for half an hour with them after they talk to you for an hour or two explaining the fact sheet. The previewers don't even get to keep the build copy.

I'm guessing they're talking about putting the 08 team together manually though, they haven't been mentioned as one of the included classic teams...as yet, anyway.

Says the guy who thinks the generation that's been around for six years is somehow the "next" generation.

When did you become Phillepeno?
