PC or PS3(Xbox360)?

Talk about NBA 2K12 here.

PC or PS3(Xbox360)?

Postby GoLowDrew on Tue Aug 23, 2011 8:54 am

With the new game coming out, can you computer experts tell me if the game will be "better" in terms of graphics using a PC or PS3? The PS3 has been out for a few years. Have the development of the game reached the PS3 limits? Also I know every PC is different. So is the game developed at the level of the best graphics card today?

Maybe it's hard to tell. For those with 2K11, and seen both PC and PS3/XBox360, what's your take?

Thank you.

for 2k11, 360 and PS3 had better shaders. Meaning the player's shadow from their arms and bending over was actually showing up on their jerseys. This seems to be the case with 2k12 as well as seen through the released trailers.

For some reason, those shaders did not find their way to the 2k11 PC version. However, since we can edit textures, we can make the game more vibrant, sharp, and run at a higher resolution than the console versions.

So, comparing vanilla (no community patches) games, consoles win, after patches, PC wins by a long shot.
Opinions are my own.

Pretty much sums it up, all other things being equal (well, the console versions received the official updates much earlier as well).

So long as you've got the rig to run it, I'd definitely recommend the PC version too.

If you have a good PC, then PC version is better.

And don't forget the crazy stuff you can pull off with the PC. I have Tupac, Ryu, Akuma, the Na'Vi Jake Sully, the cast of the Slam Dunk manga and more in my rosters. Not to mention the legends like Kareem and Hakeem and Barkley. And we're not even talking about custom accessories, shoes, courts and total conversion mods like Jao's Hoop It Up (which doesn't overwrite the default stuff).

To me it's not even close.

One thing I hate about the PC version is the annoying HEADLESS GLITCH. Ruins my highlight big time. I hope they already fix it in 2K12 :!:

I plan on playing some online games of 2k12 this year. So, 360 at first. If they fix the online PC experience, then I will trade.

Am thinking of getting PC over PS3 this year, mainly for historical roster updates and cheapers.

Tried both PC and PS3 this year but will go for PC only about 2k12.

You just want to unlock Run TMC and 02 Kings without having to preorder. :P

I'm still pondering this decision. If lockout was likely to be resolved quickly then probably PS3. Not really sure since most patches made are cosmetic. It's only really the idea of unlocking rookies that piques my interest, oh and it's cheaper.

cosmetic with rating changes, so the game does play differently

its just like playing with different leagues, just with NBA rules.

The PC version seems to always be the better buy for me, modding is easier along with I can actually record matches on the PC.

The X, Cosmetic is good because thats mostly where 2k falls down. However there are guys like Michaelluvtz (not sure of his name) and Johndoe who change the way the game plays. Like speed of the players, net physics, speed of passes, blocking and many other things.

Sadly, I think we can rule out the possibility that the lockout is going to be resolved quickly, at least with the latest breakdown in negotiations.

Thanks for feedback guys. I'm probably going to pre-order for PS3 & get my Larry Bird cover (Magic one is appealing too) then later on might pick it up for PC when price drops & some good patches drop (e.g. NCAA, historicals with cyberfaces etc). The good patches/mods usually take a few months to come out so by then I'll do it then.

I thought I read that we only get the MJ cover over here, you'd probably have to get your PS3 chipped or something if you want the other ones. I'm hoping we get Larry and Magic though.

Even in the States, there's no guarantee as to which cover you'll get since stores will be getting whatever they get in terms of the limited edition Bird and Magic covers.

PS3 is region free so can get whatever I want. Am looking at pre-ordering from http://www.mightyape.com.au/Brands/NBA-2K/ since can choose which cover. Doesn't look like you can choose for PC.

Good news for anyone who wants the limited edition covers, though previously it's been said that it wouldn't be possible due to the limited run of Magic and Bird covers. Hopefully they don't get caught out on that.

So anyways, I pre-ordered the PC version. Too many good memories with Live & am on PC more than PS3 and finally got something that can play it. Hope to continue to play 2k11 on PS3 to keep my Association going, but we'll see how that goes.

That's the only reason I got one in the first place (so I could play College Hoops & then they canned it a year later)

They're region free with games, but not normal DVD's etc (not that I use it for that anyways).

Welcome to the club, X. (Y)

From what people who've played 2K12 have said so far, going back to 2K11 might be easier said than done.
