It depends what you mean by affecting the game. The game will be released no matter what but as mentioned before they can't include rookies until they've signed with their teams (which can't happen while there's a lockout) and without an offseason, there isn't any player movement to include aside from what happened leading up to the end of June.

Assuming that the season would start on January and only a 50-game season, does it mean that 2K would also delay the release and fix the season and association schedules?

2K would not delay the release. They would probably release a patch to have a 50 game season and the rookies like what NBA Live 99 did.

The player CF's will just be hidden within the game files anyway.

Just like ricky rubio's was in last year's version

Why is that sad? They won't be playing in the US regardless.

Man, that's exactly why they are releasing like 15 legends for this "greatest challenge" mode. With no NBA movement people tend to stop buying the game or just not playing it. I mean, a lot of times after watching some sick Kobe moves, when my friends couldn't play ball, I picked up some games in 2k11.
So, 2ksports has to make the game more appealing to not lose any potential buyer. It's a smart move and I'm into it, 'cause I love classic NBA and I love Dr. J.

If this is the case then "My Player" will be a breeze id be the only rookie, number 1 pick for sure haha

That's a very good point, I hadn't thought of that. It'll be interesting to see how they handle it.

Last year's rookie class, or generics, at a guess.

Generic rookies would be really bad. I'd prefer last years class...

That's what I'd do if I were calling the shots. Rosters are going to be last year's anyway.

I do not disagree with you, I'd just be disappointed even if I'm expecting something like that by now.

Replaying the 2010/2011 season with last year's rookie class seems like the best way to go to me too, if the lockout gives them no other option. The option to start an Association in 2010/2011 wouldn't be a bad idea either in my opinion, replay the 2011 season with the upgraded tech of NBA 2K12.

Well, there might be complications with My Player, just like what mp3 had said. How would the draft be held?

Well, as we just said, replaying the 2011 season with the class of 2010 as rookies or using a bunch of generic rookies. Those seem to be the likeliest options at this point, should a lockout prevent the real class of 2011 being included out of the box.

I also think those rookies will be hidden in game or luckily, be put on some hidden "2k sports" team. Just as long as those rookies are not represented by real NBA teams or its Free agency list. I'm hoping its a loophole the game COULD possibly use and not cause legal problems with a license violation.

Of course they will be hidden because if the lockout ends they need to be able to just release a roster patch that would activate all that is hidden (Y)

They wouldn't have to be hidden for a roster update to add them to the game following the resolution of the lockout, but I guess it'd make things easier and would be a handy easter egg for us in the meantime.
