How Would You Rate NBA 2K12 So Far?

Postby bowdown on Mon Oct 10, 2011 10:48 am

Based on what you expected and what you got delivered how would you rate your experience with NBA 2K12 so far?

What are your favorite aspects of the game and what things you find frustrating?

Id give this game 8/10 so far. (Once I get used to the controls and other variables it will probably be 9/10. Right now frustration is hindering my full enjoyment). The one major draw back is the mother fucker teammate AI. Fuck those assholes leaving shooters wide open. CPU nails too many damn 3 pters. There is a cheese factor this game still has which I hope I will be able to figure out with Sliders and maybe a patch comes out.

(PS not being able to call advanced plays with player lock is also BS)

I'd give it an 8 at most, the AI isn't as good I expected it would. I think if 2K11's All-Star difficulty took on 2K12's AI, 2K11 would more or less win. There are some weird things that I don't understand that the AI does sometimes... I posted some of my main points in the 2K12 impressions thread.

8/10, the trade logic is ruining the game for me plain and simple.

put in good trade logic, and ill give it 9.5/10

I give it a 10/10, none of the small problems that other people complain about don't bother me at all.. Only thing that can be better is the NIKEid situation when there is more shoes to select from I will say that the game is worth the whole $60.

Yea at first I thought it was just my poor defense, or the fact that my nets all have horrible defensive IQ, but it is a little ridiculous. I even have my offball and onball settings to defend tight and rich hamilton stroked 18-29 against me. Absolutely nothing I could do. As soon as I started defending him myself offball, Gordon started lighting up. Possibly boosting hustle slider? Def IQ slider?

I can completely understand the learning curve but some of my problems seem out of my control. Defensive players getting stuck in an animation going AROUND a screen, when they could go STRAIGHT by. It looks like they purposefully do a zig-zag route to get to the player.

I don't agree with the D-pad quick settings changes at all. Can't view my players fouls. Can't go into coach mode on the fly. Can't see my players quick stats. The first 2 are HUGE in my opinion, why would I really need on the fly camera changes? I do like the quick change coaching profiles, and although I haven't used them a lot I have noticed they have changed by themselves with everything set to manual. I'm tired of being run out of the park by the Pistons on the fast break because my coach profile has reset to crash the boards. That's not right.

When I read about the difference in challenging shots this year I was excited. No more precision timing with the Y (triangle) as the soul decider of good defense. But I find using the analog stick to put hands up, and allowing for autoshot contest to be nearly ineffective. Too many times I've played great D, stayed tight and seen the hands in face animation and still the shot has gone in. To add to it I get called for alot more shooting fouls when I press Y (triangle), even without the right trigger (Swat). Again probably just needs slider tweaks.

Graphics are dissapointing, but not a game breaker.

Addition of picking inbound passer, subbing after intermissions, and some of the presentation effects are nice, but not a big deal in my opinion. Fast break has good potential, is a welcome addition. Love the new dribbling animations, and the contact shots look awesome. Mid range game really has come alive, and the new plays, play overlays, and play settings make the game more authentic and better paced than ever.

I have played the post quite a bit, and still can't seem to do what I want on a consistent basis. Could be learning curve but I should be able to score anywhich way I want with Ben Gordon covering Brooke Lopez 3 feet from the basket with no help D. Several times I had a mismatch, shimmy fake up, fake drive post shot, all rimmed off. Yet I performed good against Ben Wallace in the post. Doesn't make sense.

I think the game has a lot more potential, but I don't think it deserves the raving reviews that 2k11 got THUS FAR. I'd give it an 8.5. Could easily be a 9 though.

Off topic I need sliders for 12 min simulation.

Yeah, I just prefer 2K11's controls much more over 2K12's for some reason. That's just me. for that, 8.5/10. Otherwise, a completely orgasmic game to say the least. (Y)

10/10. I really have no gripe about the game(a few minor gripes though) I wish they kinda kept the D-Pad menus from last year or at least keep it the same for the substitutions. I also ran into a glitch where it sent the game into overtime when I clearly had beaten the team. (I was the Heat and beat the Magic 87-73 and it went straight to OT) other than that I love the game :cheeky:

Controls are fine. Graphics sucked more, CPU teams hit a lot of threes, random fumbling animations that you don't really trigger, teammates watching on defense while on the other side CPU teams are intercepting and deflecting shots like hell. I know there are sliders but, are we to get the best experience of the game out of the box?

I'm not giving this a 10 or so, maybe a 7 or 6 when it comes down to the PC version. 2K9 and 2K10 still beats the crap out of 2K11 and 2K12.

EDIT: But I have to admit that gameplay is smoother this year than from 2K11.

i gave it an 8.. very good, but still needs a lot of polishing.. graphics is good, although it's a step down from last year, but im scoring this as a game, not as a sequel to 2k11.. association, trade logic, cap, my player, ai, passing, and a lot of the little things, all these have to improve..

if i'm going to compare it to 2k11, i definitely think 2k12 is better of course.. but as a single game it's very good, but not anywhere near the perfect game that reviewers claim it to be..

i say 8

coz:

1.Poor online
2.There are Bugs in the game
3.no custom music

I might have wanted more improvements to the game,
but those above are must for good game,
still a good game so i give 8.

rated it a 7.

gameplay feels more smooth than 2k11 but it also feels 'slippery' if ya know what i mean which makes it kind of difficult to defend (imo)

i feel like it there are more TOs not from passing but from dribbling bumping, etc.

graphics are okay. lighting is better but when looking at them from far away it looks like the video settingswere changed to low for player model.
dont care for online, didnt try my player yet till the rookies are in. association dont play.

but overall if gameplay was has that less slippery feeling, then i mightve rated it an 8

6...I expected much more from this. Gameplay is great, but there are a few things, that 2k is not able to fix since years....

- Broken Benchmark: 2k has known that the benchmark had not worked properly in 2k11 and now they give us the same shit again?
- all that has to do with online (no friend support, no lobbys, etc etc)
- trade logic in association/my player
- rotation in my player: it's crap to play SF with a 1,91m SG when my opponent is Taj Gibson or Kevin Garnett!

The game has great potential, but it's definitely not flawless, therefore it doesn't deserve a flawless rating. Reviewers are pretty much always full of shit, that's nothing new.

Defense is really bad. After playing some more games, I'm clearly getting better in on-ball defense, but my teammates are just as dumb as they always have to be in a 2K game or even dumber (except in 2K10). With a player driving to the basket, all they do is stand and watch, sometimes they will even be kind enough to slightly move out of the way, so the CPU layup won't even be contested. When the CPU team moves the ball around, makes a few passes around the perimeter, it's more than enough to get everyone on my team so lost, running back and forth around the court and as a result nobody's guarding anybody, every player on CPU team is open and that's an easy basket. Teammates still not really interested in rebounding, either. Often I have 3 of my guys under the basket just to see a random CPU guy run in and get the rebound above all of them while they watch. Well, I don't always manage to switch on time and fight for the rebound manually. All these years, I'm so sick and tired of my teammates not even being able to do the most basic things without me telling them to do so.

That + trade logic (probably worse than ever) + no custom music + online as a whole (does anyone still believe it will ever be okay?) + other bugs I don't remember at the moment.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good game. But not anywhere near perfect, sorry. I'd give it a 7, maybe 8 at the very most.

I went with a 7. The more I play, the more things jump out at me like this is an unfinished game. What kind of defense allows a dribbler to keep dribbling around in between 10-15 feet from the hoop? What kind of AI tries to slowly nudge it's way in at that distance? Where is the offball offensive rotation to get open during double teams? There are still some small issues that can probably be fixed with ratings/coach-profile/slider adjustments.

Don't get me started on some of the stupidest development drills I have ever seen. Or the game modes that they took out.

I swear to you guys this really happened. Some irrelevant post player was making a weak cut towards the basket, his teammate passed to him in the post...I was very much in position to engange in post defense. But Brandon Roy decided to double over anyways from Eric Gordon at the 3 point line. The post player I was guarding passed to Eric Gordon outside....Brandon Roy ran outside and then he ran the fuck BACK towards the paint even though Gordon still had the ball in his hands and didnt even fake a pass or anything nor did he dribble it once. Wide pen 3 pointer.

You're comparing post-patch 2K11 to pre-patch 2K12 though.... We all know by now that 2K's games really needs their december/january patch to be properly playable.

i'm going to give it a 9 (9.5), due to nba affecting the roster and updates, i have no major gripes with the game, really enjoying it, game is great in all areas in my opinion (not a online guy, so), slider adjustments fixed most if not all my issues except for the random framerate drops!

8/10 for me. I love everything but the problems in My Player (excessive trading and minutes given) and broken online play (which mostly matters to me for 2Kshare which is half broken as is).
