NBA - Where Lockout Happens

As you probably know, the player union and owners are talking about a new CBB, and things ain't looking good for the NBA: owners want a so called 'flex cap', players making their 'STAND', ...
If they don't get to an agreement, the lockout becomes a real problem. No NBA season (or half a season) would mean no good for 2k12: no NBA Today, no stat-updates, etc. Sales might not be as high as expected.
So guys, what influence would a possible lockout have on your 2k12 season? Or do you reckon it won't come this far?

I don't think this will affect 2k12. Worst comes to worst- we'll have a 50 game season in real life and a delay of release date of 2k12.

I do not even think they'll delay 2k12 because of a lockout. As long as they got the licenses, 2ksports can release the game... and they better should, because of the costs of licenses, production, rent employes etc..
It should not be to difficult to adapt the game, which I expect to have a 82 games schedule, to a shorter one once it is released.
But that's just my 2 cent.

They won't delay the release, on the few videos that have been released about 2k they have said they have plans incase of a lockout.

The common theory at the moment is that the game will contain final 2010/2011 season rosters (much the same way NBA Live 99 had final 1997/1998 season rosters and didn't include the new rookies etc until a patch was released when the lockout ended) and more historical content along the lines of the Jordan Challenge.

If we wanna use the NFL situation as an example, EA have said that Madden will contain all of the drafted rookies on their teams etc, so yeah.

Different leagues, unions, different collective bargaining agreement, different rules.

No rookies, no purchase.

It doesn't matter what happens with Madden. NBA contracts are completely different, if a player is not under contract with an NBA team they cannot be included in an NBA video game. Hence if the rookies can't sign with their teams due to the lockout, they won't appear in any video games.

Oh man,that is really complicated,I would not like to see NBA 2K delayed,but I could live with 2010-2011 roster.After all we can make patches for PC and solve this problem easily.

I was under the impression that as long as their part of the players union they are able to include them. Assuming they get permission from the players union, because if not they don't get any players.

Well, they could add the "Unsigned Rookies" section.

No, they can't legally include those players until they've signed NBA contracts and are in the union. If the lockout cuts into the season and they can't add the new rookies and there's no offseason moves to include, they'll most likely have 2010/2011 season rosters (plus maybe the deals that happened at the Draft) and release an update when the lockout ends.

Exactly. Even if they went around and individually struck a deal with every rookie expected to sign with a team, they still wouldn't have the rights to place them on that team. Its basically a legal mess which is why as Andrew as said all along, the 2010/'11 rosters with trades/retirements makes the most sense.

With added historical content a seemingly strong possibility as part of the contingency plan.

it's a fucking video game not real life, so chill when 2k12 comes out we will see whats gonna happen with those things but Im sure rookies will be included in teams

As has been said a half-dozen times already in this thread, it would be illegal to put them in. So no, they won't be.

Who cares anyway because we all know all of them are going to be patched anyway of course that is applying only to those who play on PC but at the point I am trying to make either way these players will be patched and will be placed in the game regardless. So as for us PC guys I think we will live just saying
