Question about 2k12's pre-order bonus code

Postby Franci27nba on Fri Aug 26, 2011 5:13 am

Will the code to unlock Warriors 91 and Kings 02 be the same for all the games or will change on every copy of the game?

If will happen the first thing i think preorder is unnecessary 'cuz we all can have the code if some good souls publish the codes on the net.

Do u now this thing? Can u help me? If someone knows if the code will be the same or different on each copy will really help me 'cuz i can't find a videogames shop that can do nba 2k preorder in italy.

Sorry for the no good english...

Usualy, pre-order codes are unique to each copy of the game. It will be on a slip of paper if you order a disk, or in an Email if you direct download.
You have to register your copy of the game, and the code is locked to the person that registered that copy. You can't use someone elses code.
Also, the artwork and other data for the 1990-91 Warriors and 2001-02 Kings probably have to be downloaded, not on the game disk.

If there aren't any sutable options in Italy, I am almost willing to guarantee that a user made patch of equal or better quality will be released soon after the game.

Interesting note from Owen Good on Twitter:

Also, I got it wrong: 91 GSW, 02 SAC included in *all* copies but limited supply.

I had erroneously called it a preorder bonus. It isn't, the code will be in all cases day of release. When they run out, that's it.

So yeah, if you get the game early on you'll get the code, but you don't necessarily have to pre-order.

Bull. I wanted to bide my time before getting the game to read others' reviews on it to see whether or not they've fixed some irritating issues that I've read about especially in association mode (odd crashes, glitches, etc.). It comes at a price of not getting Run TMC and Adelman's Kings. (N)

If they're in the game by default though, it might be possible to unlock them for the PC version without a code, for those who get the game beyond the limited supply.

Agreed. It's probably an unlockable. I'm guessing the preorder bonus guarantees that you get a code. If it is an unlockable, I don't see how one persons code won't work for other copies.

Thanks guys, you give me a very significant help, but it's possible that the pre-order code will be on every copy of the game and not on limited supply? This could be a 2k's strategy..

I guess it's possible but as far as we know for the moment, those codes are going to ship with copies of the game on launch and like the Bird and Magic covers, they're in limited supply.

Different companies have different ways of doing things, but commonly DLC content isn't on the game disk.
I hope I'm wrong, especialy given 2K/Take 2's reputation with internet servers, but you may have to download the artwork for these two teams.

I'm guessing it's going to be content on the disc that's unlocked with a code, but that's a good point.

Whatever you buy from the shop, not over Steam or stuff like that.

im guessing it's a ploy to get people to buy it at 60 bucks instead of waiting for it like axel and getting it at a lower price. a lot of times, "DLC" is already on the disc and you download a 5 kb file to unlock it (which i think is bullshit because it's already on the damn disc you bought). in that case (or if the game has "call of duty" in the title), it was obvious they planned on milking customers for more money. sometimes DLC is legitimately a full download though

pretty much, what Q said, its all going to be on the disc and I wouldnt be surprised if it wasnt a cheat code that everyone could input. 2K has yet to do actual DLC for any of their basketball games.
