Can't open DDS files with Photoshop

Postby Omri12 on Sun Sep 23, 2012 6:05 am

I want to start making patches for 2K, but when I try to open a .DDS file in Photoshop after i decommpressed the file, it writed to me "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document", even after i've downloaded the NVIDIA plugin..

Maybe someone knows what is my problem and can help me?
Thank's in advance! :D

I'm just using Paint.net now and i can open .DDS files, but I've got another question: Which texture should I edit inisde the .iff file of a player if I want to edit his face? (I'm guessing it's texture 5, but I don't know why it doesnt has hair, brows, eyes etc..)

Are you sure you installed the DDS plugin for Adobe correctly and have the correct version(x64, etc)? Try saving a jpeg image as a DDS and see if it works.

Texture 5 is the "normal map", known to people as the green texture. It is used to give textures the illusion of more detail based on the direction that light hits the texture.
7 is the cyberface that you need to edit.

I think I installed it correctly, but it still doesn't work. And I don't have DDS in the drop-list so I can't save it in that format..

For me 5 is a white texture (3D), and 7 is a green texture, so how can I edit texture 7?

And thank's for trying helping me :)

I meant it was part 7 from within the 2kxmod tool, but that could be different from file to file. If you keep going down the list you should find one that looks like a face with the normal colors. Eyes are not in cyberface files and you don't need to edit them.

Sounds like the DDS plugin is not installed correctly or is not being recognized.

The supposed lack of hair could just as well be black coinciding with a black alpha layer, and showing up in the program you're using as transparent.

Pdub, I opend it through NBA2KX, and I exported each texture in few players' .iff files, but still I didn't get the file you mentioned.

About the DDS plugin- I installed the files into a seperate file, and then I copied the files inside the Plug-ins folder into the Plug-ins folder that inside the Photoshop folder, and I did the same with the Presets folder.
Isn't that how it should be installed? (btw, I did make sure that I've download the 64 bit version which is suitable for my PC)

Leftos, I tried export even the blank textures, but it still didn't gave me nothing.

Maybe you have a file with the correct textures to give me as an example?

Tell me one of the png numbers you are trying to edit. I'll post a screeny of the modtool with the correct texture part selected.

This is what I got too, but when I'm opening it through Paint.net, I'm getting this face with blank eyebrowse and beard. Is that what I supposed to get and edit?

Like leftos said, that is the alpha channel being applied. There should be a way of hiding it in paint.net, but I don't use it so I don't know.

Glad I could help and that you figured it out. I wouldn't have been any help in gimp, either.
