Suggestions which controller I should buy (PC)

Postby _Steve_ on Sat Oct 08, 2011 4:19 pm

Hi folks!
I'm using a Predator Gamepad by now.
It is - or better was - quite ok, just now and then it has some malfuntions. E.g. When scrolling through a menu the scrolling sometimes just don't stop despite I'm touching any sticks/ buttons.
So I decided to buy a new gamepad. My first choice is the wireless 360 controller, second PS3 and third Rumblepad II (used Rumblepad I but I never really liked it).
Any experiences/ suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

As a person who used to inadvertently but regularly wreck controllers, 360 controller is the way to go.
Rumblepad/any logitech gamepad feels comfortable with the hands but imo not as responsive as the 360 when a little bit wear wear and tear creeps in.
PS3 controller is more responsive than the Rumblepad (with wear and tear) but I don't feel comfortable handling it.

Only 'damage' I have now with the 360 controller is the 'rubber plastic' wearing off from the analog sticks thus exposing the 'hard plastic'.
Go with the wired controller. Its wire is long enough for you to even play across the other side of your room. Also, most console to PC port games generally support the 360 controller.

Thanks to both of you.
@ shadowgrin
Seems like we have the same issues with the PS3 controller. From what I've read/ experienced the 360 controller has already been my favourite (never liked the 360 itself but the controller is great piece of work). The loosing of rubber is something I experienced with most controllers, so it's not that bad to me.
Taking the wired one seems to be a good advice.

@ airBerlin
Despite I use Logitech keyboard and mouse, I was kinda disappointed from by the rumblepad. But I'll look for that pad when I visit my lokal electronics dealer next time. Seems to be at least a good choice for a (cheaper) second controller.

I have xbox 360 Wired and it works perfectly with the game. I have heard wireless is more of a hassle. I mean ur not gonna be sitting too damn far from your PC anyways. 10 Ft cable is convenient enough.

IIRC you can buy a converter to use PS3 controller with PC. Price is 1,5 of a wired 360 controller here.

You're right. Since I've read that the wireless 360 could sometimes causes trouble with wirless mouses/ keyboards, I think I'll go with the wired 360.

PS3 controllers come with USB cords you can plug into your PC. The PS3 also uses the same set up to connect controllers to it. In terms of NBA 2K games, I've been using a PS3 controller since I own a PS3 (have game for PC), and it works without any problems. The main issue is for games like Batman: Arkham Asylum, where the game doesn't support the controller, and you need to do some weird "mod" to get it to work. I ended up playing the game with the Mouse and Keyboard and I had no problems.

360 Wired is the best IMO

I'm using a 360 wireless through and the only hassle is there is no way to turn the controller off. You have to either let it idle for 10 minutes or pop the battery pack. But I've walked all around the house with it in my hand and it stayed connected to the computer without issue.
Opinions are my own.

Do you need an adapter or something for your 360 controller to work on pc? I have 2 wireless xbox controllers from my xbox 360.

In my experience with the controller I think you just let it idle for 5 minutes?

I have the 360 wireless and it's being a pain in the ass. Every time I take a freethrow or the controller vibrate or shake it will turn off all of a sudden. Must be the battery pack but I don't know if they sell extra ones here.

Yea, it sounds like your pack is dead. I only use the packs that use AA batteries since I've had shit luck with the rechargeables.
