iPrototype's Progressive Mod (Cancelled)

Postby iPrototype on Mon Feb 07, 2011 12:40 am

July 22nd, 2011

Coming into this project, I was unfortunately the only one working on it. People have came and gone throughout the concept stages of this mod and nobody has delivered like Goran and RJ have in the past few weeks. The amount of time I dedicated to this mod seemed just enough to balance my business, my school and my life. Though I have came to the realization that it it just to much weight on my shoulders. I have to focus on Law School and my Wedding business before anything else, that free time I used to have has been occupied by either studying or meeting clients. After speaking with some friends I have on the board, the right decision was to defer this mod until 2k12 comes out. There will be NO progressive mod for 2k11. Since day by day the October 4th deadline grows closer, I decided I'd rather wait until summer is over. Projects like this, aren't the best thing to do especially if you work in an industry where Summer is labeled as "the busy season." Ask me when was the last time I even played a casual game of NBA2k11, I can't remember it.

So what does this mean about the progressive mod? It is still my baby, it is my work and I made all of you a promise that I will get it done. My goal for 2k12 is to get on it as soon as the game is released. As time continues, I will still be working on the mod but I don't want to lie to the members of this forum and say that work is being done when it has in fact ceased. YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THIS that I will work effortlessly in the first few months of the release of NBA2k12. You will not have to wait 8+ months for the first Total conversion mod. My plan is to release the first TCM for NBA2k12 before the 2012 year begins.

I want to thank each and every one of you for the support you have given this mod and the appreciation shown through this thread. I will try to release some small projects on the NBA2kMods site as well as improving that site to make it the official home of 2k Patching.

See you guys in 2k12!

- Michael

NBA2k12 Progressive Mod - "30 Years, One Game" 1982-2012 NBA Seasons

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

June 19th, 2011

I want to formally announce that Aloncho and I have released a website catering to members of the NBA 2k series, my mod will be available there and so will the 1992 mod by Aloncho and Juan33. I have been working with him on the site and on the mod so forgive me if I have been M.I.A. for a bit. If you want to know more about this project go to THIS THREAD

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Announcement time! I don't know how to begin this so bear with me.

This idea has been in my mind for a while and I have messaged specific people in the modding community for support (JaoSming and Aloncho) and I'm ready to announce it publicly. Remember all the work I do is for you, the players who went out to buy NBA 2k11 for the PC because you KNOW it's potential. The REAL NBA sim fans.

I call it, "iPrototype's Progressive Mod"

Now you may know I am working on the '86-'87 season mod, so once it is done and I post it up here you download it and load up "iPrototype's 86-87 Mod" roster in the game, enjoy it and have fun. All normal right? Now this is where I plan to revolutionize the modding community for all our 2k fans.

What if you want to play with Reggie Miller or Scottie Pippen (both drafted in '87) all you have to do is load up the roster file titled "iPrototype '87-'88 Mod"
What if you want to play with the first year Miami Heat or first year Charlotte Hornets? Go to settings and load up "iPrototype '88-'89 Mod"
What if you want to play with the first year Timberwolves or Orlando Magic? Just load up the "iPrototype '89-'90 Mod" roster file
What if you want to play with the Chicago Bulls that won their first ever championship for the franchise? Load up the "iPrototype '90-'91 Mod" roster file

See where I am going? I want to make it easier for ALL OF YOU and make the switching of a mod to be as simple as the loading of a roster. The roster(s) will have updated stats for each year (thanks to the amazing list by fifedawg) proper tendencies of players, accurate (as possible) shot styles for players and team tendencies. Apart from that, it will have updated CF's for each year (if needed of course) and accurate arena's, jersey's and logos for each year. All that you have to do is download the files, put them into your files folder and load up the roster and enjoy the game!

Sincerely, iPrototype

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I want to tackle a project that has never been seen before, probably won't be well accepted by most people who are looking for mods but will be adored by Basketball fanatics.

Team:
iPrototype - Roster, CF's
SLOT OPEN - Courts
SLOT OPEN - Jerseys

Yes, the infamous '86-'87 season where Pat Riley led the "Showtime" Lakers to the NBA Finals. The first time Michael Jordan won the Slam Dunk Contest. The First time the NBA logo appeared on the jerseys of the players. The last season Dr.J played before he retired and the LEGENDARY NBA All-Star game that ended with the West defeating the East 154-149 in overtime!

Truly, this was a great season with up to 20 hall of fame players playing at the time. When people say the Golden Era of basketball, they mean this season! With the draft introducing players such as Dennis Rodman, John Salley, Ron Harper, Jeff Hornacek and the late Drazen Petrovic.

Want to get even more hyped up? The NBA Final would be the last time the Lakers and Celtics meet up until the 2008 Finals. Plus it had the most memorable play by Magic Johnson (Sky hook!!) and the biggest game that would make any laker/celtic fan jump out of their seat repeatedly (Game 4!)

Now that I gave you a little history lesson, I want to get down to business. I want to recruit people who can work with me on this mod. As of now, I need help on:

Jerseys
Courts
CF's

I will be doing the roster, stats, tendencies and the numerical work on this roster. The reason I qualify for this is because not only do I have the internet to look up stats but I will be working with my brother in law (who was alive at the time since I wasn't even in the picture during this season) and will be watching old VHS films of this season. I also played basketball three years of highschool (currently in college) and I can create a very good roster with somewhat decent imitation of how they played (tendencies and might make my own version of sliders as well).

If anyone can offer their time and teach me how to do CF's, I'll be more than happy to learn and aid you in this since this is the most time consuming job. Though my vision and ultimately your reality will be to have this great season in your control in stunning HD on the computer you guys bought just for the love of basketball.

Anyway guys, welcome to the thread.

Well since there has been some views I want to keep you guys updated. I'm very motivated to work on this project. So far I have been editing lots of things on Reditor. I have also downloaded FifeDawg's ratings for every player and using that as a base to get an idea of ratings. I'll be watching tape this week of players and scoring the game myself.

I can make this mod very accurate and will be making a set of sliders to match the style of game and rules back then (hand-checking, clear path, etc..)

Still need some sucke....I mean volunteers to help me with this mod

I'm all for it if we can get some talented CF and court makers to jump on board. In another thread it just got brought up how fun an '80s mod would be, and the '87 season is a good pick. I can help out with portraits and logos but your biggest challenge will be to get somebody who can modify head shapes. You'll need to do some recruiting if you want this to become a reality.

I hope talented patch makers help out with this. This is by far the most exciting MOD to me; the 86-87 season was amazing.

the biggest problem is always in CFs,
due to the lack of high quality pictures, especially ones from the 80s,
it's very hard to make high quality CFs of past players, and it would be a pity to see them with lame faces

at the end of the day, Sleepy Flloyd will not have a better CF than Chris Quinn,

unless someone can give us sources of high quality photos, it's really hard to make high quality CFs of 80s players.

Gracias por las fotos hermano. But Stomp is right, it may not work for CF's but you did say those were from DVD's while you originally said you had magazines so there may be hope! I'm trying to get a good CF maker to join the team. You can help him once we find him. Thanks for joining the team

Got a couple of people REALLY excited for this mod and that want to help. Also got some people pending to join the team if they give the OK.

So far to update you guys, I've been watching tape and have created a set of sliders that really capture the HARDCORE defense played back then. Anyway, just letting you guys know there IS progress in this mod :D

Just letting you guys know, the sliders are done. After about 8 hours worth of time spent on these sliders, adjusting them mid game, playing with them I can honestly 100% say this reminds me of real golden age basketball.

Now, I want to point out that I may have gone a bit too technical with these sliders. Basically, word of warning, if you don't know how to play basketball effectively, you will DIE. The 80's was fundamental basketball with teams who can ALL play well not just one star (or three :cheeky: ) that can lead a team and score 89 combined while the reserves score 11

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Welcome to the 80's guys :D

I'm bummed this isn't 1983-1984, but YES. I am so glad to see an 80s roster being made. Good luck with this and I can't wait to play it.
I mentioned in the 2k10 board how much I'd love to see some 80s rosters get made for this year, so thanks for this.

No problem, I've been itching to go at this project since 2k11 came out. SOMEBODY has to get the wheels moving. With the lack of helpers, the wheel is kind of heavy. Slowly but surely I'll get it done.

I don't know if it can support it since the association NEEDS 30 teams, in the 1987 there was only 23 teams. I mean, you can play with the extra teams I'm putting but it won't be realistic since I added the legends teams (50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and 00's team) and another secret team

UPDATE!

Postby iPrototype on Fri Feb 11, 2011 1:52 pm

I want to keep you guys informed on the mod. As of now, the roster is about 80% complete with stats, birthdays, colleges, dominant hand, moves, numbers. The only thing missing is the draft information (Round/Pick) and salaries, but I miss just skip that. Let me know guys! I would love to make is association mode friendly BUT since there's 23 teams that year, I don't know if we can.

Also, I'd like to welcome a friend of mine to the team. You guys might know him, his username is "Lean" and you can see some of his work HERE. He's going to be doing the jerseys for this great season.

Now all we need is some more people for CF's, a courts guys and possibly a dorna dude (like the nicknames? :cheeky: )

I've asked some other friends to help but they're a bit too busy. I want to thank you guys for supporting me though, you know who you are. :bowdown2:

Thanks for the update.

For the draft info. you can look on this site http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/LAL/1987.html This is a link to the Lakers team, and if you click on the names it will show you all their draft info. Here's the team index page http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/

As for salaries, I found this http://www.eskimo.com/~pbender/misc/salaries88.txt Unfortunately it's for the 87-88 season, but it might be a good starting place. Though perhaps somebody knows of a better resource.

Yes thats true :D

How you deal with the teams like Magic, Bobcats, Wolves, Heat? are they still available or you deleted them?

It would be nice if they are still available, for my own association i would add some created players to them or something like that. Maybe some fictive nonames.

Man you put very much effort in it, picking out all those stats , birthdays-towns draft year is really a tremendous work.
