[REL V0.1] Greatest Teams (Looking for Artists)

Postby LHead2 on Mon Oct 11, 2010 2:59 pm

If anyone has the talent and interest, this mod needs CFs, jerseys and courts to take the next step. PM me or post in this thread if you want to help.

This is a project to recreate the greatest teams of the NBA (and maybe some ABA teams down the line).

The first release includes one team from each franchise (and two for the Lakers because it was easy):

1982-83 Philadelphia 76ers (65-17, NBA Champions)
2009-10 Charlotte Bobcats (44-38, 1st Round)
2000-01 Milwaukee Bucks (52-30, Eastern Conference Finals)
1995-96 Chicago Bulls (72-10, NBA Champions)
1988-89 Cleveland Cavaliers (57-25, 1st Round)
1985-86 Boston Celtics (67-15, NBA Champions)
2005-06 Los Angeles Clippers (47-35, Western Conference Semifinals)
2003-04 Memphis Grizzlies (50-32, 1st Round)
1986-87 Atlanta Hawks (57-25, Eastern Conference Semifinals)
2010-11 Miami Heat (TBD)
2007-08 New Orleans Hornets (56-26, Western Conference Semifinals)
1996-97 Utah Jazz (64-18, NBA Finals)
2001-02 Sacramento Kings (61-21, Western Conference Finals)
1993-94 New York Knicks (57-25, NBA Finals)
1986-87 Los Angeles Lakers (65-17, NBA Champions)
2005-06 Los Angeles Lakers
1995-96 Orlando Magic (60-22, Eastern Conference Finals)
2002-03 Dallas Mavericks (60-22, Western Conference Finals)
2001-02 New Jersey Nets (52-30, NBA Finals)
2008-09 Denver Nuggets (54-28, Western Conference Finals)
2003-04 Indiana Pacers (61-21, Eastern Conference Finals)
1989-90 Detroit Pistons (59-23, NBA Champions)
1999-2000 Toronto Raptors (45-39, First Round)
1993-94 Houston Rockets (58-24, NBA Champions)
2004-05 San Antonio Spurs (59-23, NBA Champions)
1992-93 Phoenix Suns (62-20, NBA Finals)
1995-96 Seattle Supersonics (64-18, NBA Finals)
2003-04 Minnesota Timberwolves (58-24, Western Conference Finals)
1989-90 Portland Trailblazers (59-23, NBA Finals)
1990-91 Golden State Warriors (44-38, Western Conference Semifinals)
2004-05 Washington Wizards (45-37, Eastern Conference Semifinals)

Nice, but instead of the 2010-11 Miami Heat can you add the 2005-06 Heat team on the list , since the 2010-11 team is already in the game

There will be a poll on it to gauge interest. To be honest though, I only started up the project for myself, and I feel like it would be more interesting with the 2010-11 team.

I'll probably add them after the roster editor comes out. Until then, I need Billups on the Nuggets and I can't duplicate players.

Maybe I'll put in one of the teams when Kobe was going solo, since the Lakers will be in their classic team spot.

Doubt most will agree, but I'd also like to see some of the older school teams like the '67 76ers, '71 Bucks, and one of Russell's Celtics teams. If not I can wait for the editing tools to be released. Looking forward to your great work! Good luck.

I'd love to put those in after the roster editor comes out if some talented graphics patchers offered their services. Until then, I'm trying to limit myself to what I think of as the "modern" era (80s onward). And thanks for the encouragement!

Don't worry, I'm making sure I at least get Showtime Lakers (86-87 is what I would consider the peak) in with the first release.

I'll let the Spurs poll run until midnight GMT, then switch to the Mavs.

New poll is up for the Mavs. I'm making good progress so far, but CAPs are annoying to make, when 2k could've left in the Legends teams.

Can I make a request? It would be awesome if you could do the 1985 Lakers - I believe that was the best Laker's team of the 80's! The roster is here http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/LAL/1985.html

Thank you!

Maybe, but they're not drastically different from the 1987 Lakers I've currently got set. I'll stick with '87 for the first release.

Okay, slightly annoying setback until the new REDitor comes out: I can only make a total of 150 CAPs. Distributed over all 30 teams, that's only 5 per team. Now, obviously some will need more and some will be less, so I'm working on a list of who I'll need to make to make sure there won't be any major problems. If all else fails, I might just have to switch out some of the teams for more recent ones. Hopefully not, though.

One workaround I'm doing is to take current players who's fathers played in the NBA and use them (i.e., Luke/Bill Walton, Gerald Henderson Jr./Sr., Wes Matthews Jr./Sr.). That should help out if it gets tight.

EDIT: 41 CAPs over the limit. I'll probably cut off some benchwarmers for the first version. Really looking forward to the new REDitor!

dude I think you have a great idea,
but I would rather have the greatest teams for a selected number of franchise.
I don't think we need the greatest bobcats or clippers

Yeah, I know. I'll probably replace the Bobcats, Clippers, and several of the Bulls retro teams with other retro teams. Still, I wouldn't want to have more than two from any particular team, even if they are the Celtics or Lakers.

Anyway, I prefer Warriors 2007 for Warriors 91.

NBA.com has a nice little article on the '83 Sixers. They're probably among my favorite teams to play with - though a pain to make since there aren't many CFs of the players.

I'm hoping to have the first release ready tomorrow or Sunday. I'll start recruiting CF-makers after that. I'd feel rather rude to be asking for help without even a proof of concept released to the public.
