Modding Shoes In NBA 2K11

Does anyone know how shoes even work in this game? Assigning them in game is a mess. Some players are locked to brands. Only 3-4 shoes are shown per brand. But then other players have unique custom shoes. But if you move right or left, that shoe is erased. I'm trying to assign accurate shoes for my 2007 mod on 2k11, but im totally lost at how to even get the ones I want, or where they even are coming from. Please if you can help, let me know
