Controversial Inclusion Of Dela Cruz As All-Star Reserve February 2 2012, DALLAS (AP) – When word broke that Dallas Mavericks F
Kenneth Dela Cruz would be voted in by coaches as a substitute on the Western Conference All-Star bench, there was outrage. That news has now been confirmed as the NBA announced the reserves for the All-Star Game.
Second year player Dela Cruz is averaging 8.1 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.8 spg, 2.0 bpg but it would be hard to argue that he should have been picked ahead of the likes of
Tony Parker and
Tim Duncan. Duncan, who will miss his first All-Star game in a while stated, “At least I will get to go away for the weekend.”

All-Star Reserves Pierce, Nowitzki Have Scoring Duel February 15 2012, CLEVELAND (AP) – Dallas Mavericks PF
Dirk Nowitzki showed that he still has it in him even with the Mavs dangerously holding onto feigning playoff hopes. Nowitzki came off the bench to score 21 points and grab 6 rebounds to lead the Western Conference All-Stars. Eastern conference counterpart Boston Celtic SF
Paul Pierce scored 19 from off the bench.
The two veterans stole the spotlight from their younger All-Star teammates as
LeBron James and
Moses Chara’s much anticipated showdown never came to fruition. James had just 9 points while Chara put up just 8 points and 6 assists.
Nowitzki and Pierce each scored 12 points in the final quarter but it was Pierce’s three point play with 23 seconds left that put the East up by 5. The Lakers’
Kobe Bryant missed a jumper against the defensive pressure from Pierce with 10.1 seconds left and the game was all but over as Pierce’s teammate
Rajon Rondo dribbled the clock out. The Eastern Conference won the game 110-105, with Pierce taking All-Star MVP honors.
Other notable performers in the game were:
Chris Bosh 18 points,
Gilbert Arenas 14 points,
Michael Beasley 13 points,
Rudy Gay 9 points for the Eastern Conference and
Yao Ming 14 points,
Kevin Durant 11 points,
Ray Lliach 11 points,
Joe Johnson 11 points,
Martti Must 8 points,
Kenneth Dela Cruz 2 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists for the Western Conference.

Knicks Make Flurry Of Trade Deadline Moves February 23 2012, NEW YORK (AP) – The 30-28 New York Knicks are desperate to break their playoff drought, so the team made a flurry of moves to try and solidify their position in the Eastern Conference. Their blockbuster deal in acquiring SF
Ron Artest and PG
Aaron Brooks should go a long way towards that.
Artest is averaging 17 ppg, 5 rpg, 3 apg, 2 spg, 1.5 bpg, and Brooks is averaging 14 ppg and 4 apg. The former Hoston Rocket players are expected to join the Knicks’ second unit. In return, the Rockets received expiring contracts
Boris Diaw (1.5 ppg),
Danilo Gallinari (8.1 ppg, 3 rpg),
Wilson Chandler (2 ppg), and the Knicks’ 2012 first round pick.
With SF
Tracy Mcgrady out all season with a back injury, the Rockets have dropped to a League-worst 17-37 record. The Rockets decided that it was time to move on and trade for expiring contracts and prepare to start anew for the following season.
The Knicks were also involved in two minor deals. In one they traded
Amir Johnson (1.6 ppg, 2.0 rpg) to the Warriors for
Al Harrington (8 ppg, 1.6 rpg) and a 2012 second round pick. In the other they traded away
Nick Young (9.7 ppg, 1.7 rpg) to acquire
Mike Miller (9.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg) from the Pistons.

Sacramento’s Moves Solidify Roster For Postseason February 23 2012, SACRAMENTO (AP) – A sudden drop in form has prompted the 33-24 Sacramento Kings to retool their roster with a handful of deals. The Kings hope that trading for
Jerry Stackhouse,
Andres Nocioni and
Zydranus Ilgauskas will help them in defeating the 40-15 Portland Trailbalzers in the playoffs.
The Kings dealt
Brad Miller (1.7 ppg) to the Nets for Stackhouse (6.7 ppg). In order to get Nocioni (10 ppg, 2.5 rpg), the Kings had to part with
Keyon Dooling (4.5 ppg) and their 2012 second round pick. The recent sidelining of
Shaquille O’Neal forced the Kings to look for some help at the centre position and so they traded away
Kris Humpries (4.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg) to acquire Ilgauskas (6 ppg, 3 rpg).
Leading MVP Candidate
Moses Chara welcomes all of the Kings’ moves, “We’ve got three solid veterans coming in and I feel that our bench is a lot stronger than it was at the start of the season.”
