It proves that defence wins. You traded away 1 awesome defensive player for 2 offensive players and lost out big. Maybe it was too late in the season... either way, Mavs are in rebuilding phase now.

Chara in his prime against an old, broken down Kobe. It's like Kobe v Jordan in 2003.

The L-Train can shut the fuck up.

Your Suns were in the mid-30s for wins. Sort of had no chance to make the playoffs.

Most Valuable Player: Kevin Durant | 28.6 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 2.9 apg, 1.6 bpg, 1.9 spg

Durant was the best player on the best team this year. This is his first MVP award and despite his scoring output being lower than it has been in previous years, he still led the league in scoring again. If Durant keeps this up, he could win more scoring titles than Michael Jordan and push to be considered the best perimeter scorer of all-time. The only thing missing from Durant's resume is an NBA title and this season he could add one. That would bolster his legacy as one of the all-time great basketball players. However, another failed title run would surely hurt his 'legacy'.

Rookie of the Year: Coby Clark | 15.1 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 1.6 bpg

Coby Clark was not expected to perform this well. He was considered NBA-ready but raw and inconsistent. He had to add muscle to joust with the other NBA bigs but Clark used his athleticism to fly through his rookie season and help lead the team orientated Toronto Raptors to the playoffs - something that Chris Bosh couldn't do. Clark combined with Yi Jianlian to form a strong inside-outside forward tandem. Vince Carter and Chris Hova helped him along the way and now the NBA has another bright All-star center/forward prospect.

Sixth Man of the Year: Luther Head | 14 ppg, 4.0 apg, 1.1 spg

It wasn't much of a year for the Houston Rockets as a team but Luther Head kept things interesting for a very weak Rockets bench. The team was trying to work in a lot of young players into the team and Head was the steadying force whenever they needed some scoring and playmaking from off the bench.

Defensive Player of the Year: Dwight Howard | 16.6 ppg, 11.9 rpg, 2.7 bpg

Dwight Howard is a shoe-in every year. If only it reflected in his team's record.

Most Improved Player: Chris Wilcox | 13.0 ppg, 6.8 rpg

In his first season as a starter and not playing for the Seattle Stealth, the Philadelphia 76ers power forward did his best to help one of last year's better teams to stay in playoff contention. Unfortunately that didn't happen but Wilcox proved that he belongs in the league and looked much happier starting for Philly rather than being stuck on the bench in Seattle.

KD, Ammo Combine for 66 points in Game 1

Deron Williams struggled offensively (14 points on 4-16 FG) but helped to orchestrate (10 assists) a first half run that had the Jazz leading at half-time. He was assisted by partner in crime Joe Johnson (25 points) but the 8 seed Utah Jazz could not stop Kevin Durant lead a huge 40 point output from the Stealth in the third quarter. League MVP Durant finished the game with 32 points; 20 coming in that pivotal third period. Andrew Bogut and Reshawn Tyson added 16 apiece before Adam Morrison came off the bench and hit 8 three pointers in the fourth quarter. Ammo set a franchise record for points in a quarter with 34 (13-18 FG, 8-12 3PT).

Game 1: Sea 118 - Uth 92 (Sea leads 1-0)

Durant on the third quarter: "The MVP was just having fun in the first half before getting down to business."

Stealth Head To Utah Leading 2-0 After Close Win

The Utah Jazz put up a fight to the end of Game 2. Joe Johnson proved to be a handful once again with 34 points and 7 assists. Deron Williams added 20 points and 7 assists and the Jazz saw a huge contribution from defensive stalwart Donnell Lawrence (20 points, 13 rebounds). However, it was all in vain as Kevin Durant (20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 blocks, 8-19 FG) shook off an off-night to hit clutch jumpers against the Jazz. Reshawn Tyson led the Stealth with 28 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and Jao Wu chipped in with 16 points from off the bench. The result of the game was out of the question with 0:27 left in the game when Durant hit a big stepback three pointer over Sidney Hooper to extend the home side's lead to 7 points.

Game 2: Sea 115 - Uth 110 (Sea leads 2-0)

Williams on Lawrence: "We need him to play like this every game for us to have a chance of beating these guys (Stealth)."

Jazz Win On Home Court

Kevin Durant put in a virtuoso performance with an effortless 30 points but the Stealth were heavily outplayed by the Jazz. Joe Johnson scored 27 points and Deron Williams had a double double (18 points, 10 assists) as Durant got little help from his teammates.

Game 3: Uth 112 - Sea 97 (Sea leads 2-1)

Durant: "I can't win if my teammates don't step up."

Stealth Loses Kidd and Game

Jason Kidd was limping off the court amid cheers from the Utah Jazz faithful. He had only tallied 6 assists at that stage and that was mitigated by the 6 turnovers he also had registered. It was later revealed that Kidd had a twisted ankle and may miss the rest of the series.

Sidney Hooper was inspirational to his teammates. The scrappy wingplayer held his own against the League MVP and finished with 27 points (11-18 FG, 2-5 3PT) and 9 rebounds. Joe Johnson (22 points) and Deron Williams (19 points, 6 assists) were also solid. The Jazz finished with a win to tie the series despite big games from Kevin Durant (31 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists), Reshawn Tyson (20 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists) and Andrew Bogut (17 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists).

Game 4: Uth 119 - Sea 113 (Series tied 2-2)

Coach Karl on Kidd loss: "We rested Kidd during the end of the regular season to avoid this but this is the nature of sport. We just have to move along with the hits and keep playing hard. We are capable of winning without him but losing him is still a very big loss for this ball club"

Around The League

Western Conference

3 seed Portland easily accounted for the 6 seed Minnesota Timberwolves 4-1. Brandon Roy was a gun in Games 2 (24 points, 7 rebounds, 16 assists), 3 (35 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists) and 4 (39 points, 3 assists, 12 assists). The 7 seed Sacramento Kings triumphed over the 2 seed Los Angeles Lakers thanks to sporadic performances from the Lakers' top two players. Kobe Bryant (6, 19, 7, 20, 19) and Pau Gasol (12, 4, 8, 7, 12) never played well in the same game and made it easy for the Kings to win despite Moses Chara's poor form continuing in the postseason (16 ppg, 7 rpg, 7 apg).

The 5 seed Golden State Warriors swept the 4 seed New Orleans Hornets in a very close series. The Hornets should be kicking themselves after poor fourth quarter meltdowns including a very winnable Game 4 in which they fell 100-99 in Golden State. Monta Ellis, Louis Nixon and Brendan Wright all had strong series and now look forward to playing the winner of the Stealth - Jazz series.

Eastern Conference

It wasn't the series everyone expected from 2 seed New Jersey and 7 seed Miami as the Heat upset the heavily favored Nets. A 132-98 Miami win in Game 1 set the tone for the series as Michael Beasley led his side with a monster 38 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists. Beasley stirred some controversy in the post-game interview with this golden quote, "Where are all my haters now?" referring to the beginning of the season and debates about whether he was deserving of a label as the best PF in the NBA. Beasley played a fine series as he added 20 points, 12 rebounds in Game 2, 16 points, 13 rebounds in Game 3 and 33 points, 13 rebounds in Game 4. He struggled in the deciding Game 5 (10 points, 5 rebounds, 6 personal fouls) but luckily for the Heat, JR Smith led them with 25 points in a 118-115 OT win. The biggest loser of the series was Nets PG Barney Steele who crumbled under pressure and needs to become a scoring threat in order for his team to win.

Stealth, Hornets, Blazers, Kings out West. Why does this sound familiar? It's the same 4 battling out West every year. Great to see 2k9 can have team dynasties built up & continually battle even if rosters change slightly (Y)

Out East, Heat once again are up there. Cavs & Hawks are other two Eastern stalwarts (Y)

Yeah, about Ammo's game. 34 points in a quarter is an NBA record I think, not to mention the eight three-pointers. Stache got it done.

Confirming it, Gervin and Melo are both tied in 33. Meaning Ammo was so bad-ass, that he beat them by 1 point.

EDIT: Missed me by a minute Martti :)

Jazz Take 3-2 Lead In Seattle

An injured Jason Kidd hobbled up and down the floor. It was an ugly scene and an even uglier result. As courageous as the Stealth captain was, it was not worth falling into a 3-2 hole to the Utah Jazz who can now close out the series at home. Kidd (4 points, 4 assists, 4 steals) pledged that he would sit out the rest of the series in order for his ankle to heal. "I hurt the team more than I helped them tonight," the NBA veteran admitted. Kevin Durant's poor shooting performance (20 points on 6-20 shooting) didn't help the home side's cause either with Reshawn Tyson held to 14 points by Joe Johnson. Johnson (25 points) and Deron Williams (22 points, 7 assists) paced the Jazz.

Game 5: Uth 103 - Sea 91 (Uth leads 3-2)

Williams: "It's time for us to go home and close out this series."

Jao Wu Repays Coach Karl's Faith

Jao Wu (5.4 ppg, 1.1 apg, 7.8 mpg) was a surprise starter in the place of injured captain and Stealth PG Jason Kidd. Many thought Allen Iverson (13.9 ppg, 0.9 apg, 26.9 mpg) would get the honor of the starting nod but it was the second year American-Chinese player who got Coach Karl's call. Wu did not disappoint as he racked up 17 points and 6 assists but most importantly steadied the ship for Seattle en route to a tough Game 6 win that forces a deciding game in Seattle. Kevin Durant rebounded from a poor Game 5 showing with 28 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks and 3 steals. The Stealth also got strong contributions from Andrew Bogut (12 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists), Iverson (21 points off the bench) and Reshawn Tyson (19 points).

The Jazz were disappointed as they headed off their home floor after a 39 point game from Joe Johnson. Deron Williams added 16 points and 11 assists while Sidney Hooper had another big game at home with 19 points (8-11 FG) and 10 rebounds. Williams knew what Game 7 in Seattle meant, "It's going to be tough to take this series now that we are back in their building. We've won there a few days ago so anything is possible. But it will be very very tough."

Game 6: Sea 111 - Uth 115 (Series tied 3-3)

Coach Karl on Wu: "I knew that a lot of people may be wondering why I picked Wu to start over Allen but I think I don't need to say anything more than look at his performance from tonight."

Game Seven Goes Down To The Wire

A Jao Wu to Kevin Durant alley oop with close to 2 minutes left in Game 7 of this first round series will be remembered for years to come. It was that play that got Seattle a 6 point lead after a furious Jazz comeback. The Jazz had just engineered a 12-0 run to come back into the game and threaten to knock off the NBA's best regular season side but Wu's brilliantly timed no-look was gathered by Durant in mid-air. The rest as they say is history. Durant had both arms in the air as the Stealth fans could feel the momentum come back to their side.

"They couldn't quite recover after that play," Durant told reporters afterwards, "This is what MVPs are supposed to do. Kill the other team with one play. It felt great."

Durant led his side with 23 points and got help from Reshawn Tyson (23 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks, 2 steals) and David Lee (15 points, 11 rebounds). Wu was solid although having a rough shooting night (8 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists, 4-12 FG).

The valiant Jazz put up quite a fight till the end. Joe Johnson (27 points, 8 rebounds 3 assists, 12-27 FG) was once again his team's best player. Deron Williams (16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 7-17 FG) was bothered by Wu enough to have an 'average' game while Sidney Hooper (14 points, 11 rebounds 5-9 FG) had another decent showing to finish off a strong series. Changes may be coming for the Jazz though who were once again weak in regard to scoring in the paint. All-Star PF Donnell Lawrence had just one good game in the series of seven.

Game 7: Sea 101 - Uth 97 (Sea wins series 4-3)

Durant: "Did anyone really think we were going to drop this series?"

Around The League

Eastern Conference

1 seed Cleveland Cavaliers accounted for 8 seed Washington Wizards in an entertaining scoring duel between Gilbert Arenas and Lebron Jame. Arenas was entertaining on and off the court but there was no doubt that James was the better player throughout. Their scoring outputs are as follows:

    James: 37, 31, 26, 23, 46, 40
    Arenas: 17, 29, 28, 31, 23, 28

The 5 seed Chicago Bulls overcame the 4 seed Toronto Raptors' home court advantage to take out their first round series in 7 games. Derrick Rose continued his improvement as the Bulls' leader and stepped up when it mattered. The Raptors' Vince Carter was having a great series (17, 10, 26, 15) until Rose was told to defend him to the end of the series resulting in scoring outputs of 9, 7, 6 points for Carter.

The 3 seed Atlanta Hawks could not get past the young energetic 6 seed Indiana Pacers. This was despite Danny Granger going scoreless in Game 2 and scoring just 8 points in Game 3. Luckily for the Pacers, their top scorer showed up in Game 7 to finish with 32 points but had it not been for Ricky Rubio's all-around brilliance, the Pacers would have been bundled out. Pacers big men Marc Gasol and Leo Chase were also solid for the club.

Second Round Match-Ups

Western Conference

1. Seattle Stealth (64-18) v 5. Golden State Warriors (46-36)
3 Portland Trailblazers (49-33) v 7. Sacramento Kings (44-38)

Eastern Conference

1. Cleveland Cavaliers (50-32) v 5. Chicago Bulls (44-38)
6. Indiana Pacers (43-39) v 7. Miami Heat (42-40)

Damn, Utah gave you quite a scare. Surprised you haven't broken down and started playing the games. Sounds like a good playoffs (I agree with X that it's awesome that the main teams are still together and on top year after year).

Good luck against Golden State. Normally you'd be a shoe-in, but it's hard to trust the sim engine. Do you ever schedule practices?

Those Grizzlies don't exist within the context of this story. The closest comparison has got to be the 2011-12 (iirc) LA Lakers who won the title as an 8 seed...
