kinda confused... why didn't you just hold on to Wilcox? he'd seem solid enough; runs the floor, can defend and finish; why'd he get shipped out after being traded for?

well, it's cause of chemistry problems...even though i am giving them solid minutes for their respective roles, Miles and Wilcox have been complaining for ages, and are dragging performance down by a lot, also, the offering of both Anthony Johnson as well as a 2nd round pick for this year is too good to pass up...I just need to sign a minimum contract guy to stick around and be the 'safeline' in case injuries occur, that's all  or if he's good enough, replace Dorsey in the rotation. I was only going to trade Miles and then sign a 2 guard, but then the Magic offered the deal to me just prior to the deadline, so yeah :)

not many people do  but thats how it is with chinese names, or actually, most asian names (jap, korean is also same) the family name is spoken first before the person's given name :)

Deng's Buzzer Beater lifts Nets over Celtics
Image

Boston, MA - Nets forward Luol Deng struggled to put the ball in the hole the entire game, then comes up with the biggest shot of the night.

The New Jersey Nets defeat the Eastern Conference leading Boston Celtics 104-102 as Deng drains a 17 foot jumper at the buzzer. Prior to the shot, Deng was just 2 for 15 from the field, he ended the game with 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals in 28 minutes of play.

"Well, the shot was supposed to go to Devin (Harris), but he was guarded pretty closely and i had a mismatch on me, so i figured, why not?" said Deng after the game "I'm just glad that it went in when it had to"

Devin Harris led the Nets all game long, and took home player of the game honors with a very respectable stat-line, ending the game with 26 points, 7 assists, 5 steals, and 3 rebounds on 7 for 18 shooting from the field in 31 minutes of play. Yao Ming was also a dominating presence as usual, with 16 points, 17 rebounds, and 3 blocks to end the night while Sean Williams had a double double of 11 points and 15 rebounds for New Jersey. The Nets' rookie Leo Lai contributed 17 points and 5 assists in 23 minutes off the bench, the other rookie Patrick Mills dropped in 8 points in just 9 minutes of play.

The Celtics were led by a determined Rafer Alston, who had been traded repeatedly over the last season, first from Orlando to New Jersey in the Carter deal, then from the Nets to the Celtics in a three way trade that saw the Nets obtaining Walter Sharpe, an obvious insult towards Alston; who got his revenge tonight with a 20 point, 9 assists performance against one of his former teams in this season.

"You know, i'd like to get the win, but this is sufficient" said Alston "You insult me, you're gonna pay the price. Don't underestimate my abilities"

Ray Allen of the Celtics dropped in 18 points, while Paul Pierce had an all round performance with 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. The third member of the big three, Kevin Garnett, however, had an off night, going 1 for 7 from the field for a mere 2 points, he did have 12 boards in the contest though. Center Kendrick Perkins on the other hand, was completely shut down by the towering 7'6" Yao of the Nets, and only managed 4 points in the contest, however, he was able to grab an impressive 14 rebounds and dished out 5 assists in the loss.

Despite the Loss, the Celtics are still sitting at number 1 in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 38-19. While the Nets improve to 31-24, good enough to remain as the 5th seed in the East.

yeah, he's had some bad shooting games this month, hopefully he gets his stroke back next month, or else i might have to give Morrison some time at the 3 over Deng, despite the loss of all the D (Yes, Adam is shooting a hell lot better then before, and obviously, better then what Deng had been shooting at this month)
I was surprised at the win, but of course, very glad that i won :)
R2MVP (mini version, 1-5)coming soon, stay tuned :P

Monthly Recaps: February 10
Part Four: Race to the MVP
Image

1. Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers | Team Record: 40-18
Last Month's Rank - 2
Stats: PPG -- 29.4; RPG -- 6.0; APG -- 5.2; SPG -- 1.6; BPG -- 0.2; FG% -- .481; 3P% -- .344; FT% -- .818
Comment: No, Chris Paul didn't play any worse then he did last month, in fact, his performance is still specular and his Hornets are still doing great, Bryant has simply stepped up his game. The Kobe-led Lakers have won their 13th straight game to cap off the month, and are currently the only team in the NBA with 40 wins at 40-18; and this is all due to the stellar play of the reigning back-to-back NBA MVP, Reigning Finals MVP, and this season's All-Star Game MVP Kobe Bryant.

2. Chris Paul, New Orleans Hornets | Team Record: 33-24
Last Month's Rank - 1
Stats: PPG -- 20.2; RPG -- 4.6; APG -- 11.3; SPG -- 2.5; BPG -- 0.1; FG% -- .452; 3P% -- .234; FT% -- .761
Comment: As Mentioned above, CP3 is still as brilliant as he has been, he's just simply overtaken by Bryant and the on-fire Lakers. That being said, if Paul continues his great play and holds his league leading status in the assists and steals categories, as well as continue to elevate his team's performance and ends the year on a strong note, he still has a pretty good chance of giving KB24 some serious competition for the Maurice Podoloff Trophy.

3. Lebron James, Cleveland Cavaliers | Team Record: 29-31
Last Month's Rank - 4
Stats: PPG -- 30.1; RPG -- 9.0; APG -- 5.2; SPG -- 1.6; BPG -- 0.6; FG% -- .444; 3P% -- .240; FT% -- .738
Comment: His numbers have slightly decreased over all the statistical categories, but the wins have been coming for the Cavs and despite being still sub .500, they now hold a narrow 2, 2.5 games lead over the Knicks and the Pistons respectively for the 8th seed in the East. Looks like Lebron finally figured out that 'sharing is caring' and is finally hogging the ball less. (His Possessions per 48 went down from 35.8 to 32.9 this month, still tops the league, followed by D-Wade's 30.5; In comparison, Chris Paul is only getting 22.9; Kobe has 29.1, but his team is actually winning)

4. Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic | Team Record: 33-27
Last Month's Rank - 6
Stats: PPG -- 17.8; RPG -- 14.4; APG -- 0.9; SPG -- 0.7; BPG -- 3.7; FG% -- .501; 3P% -- .000; FT% -- .461
Comment: Howard is easily the front runner for the DPOY award with his eye-popping averages of 14.4 rebounds per game and 3.7 blocks per game at this late stage of the season. The Magic are steadily going along and keeping themselves within the race for the top 4 spots in the Eastern Conference (They are 6th currently, behind the Nets whom they are losing to due to the tiebreaker, and 1/2 game behind the 4th seeded Chicago Bulls)

5. Yao Ming, New Jersey Nets | Team Record: 32-26
Last Month's Rank - 9
Stats: PPG -- 19.7; RPG -- 10.5; APG -- 2.5; SPG -- 1.2; BPG -- 2.5; FG% -- .494; 3P% -- .000; FT% -- .843
Comment: After the earth shattering trade from Houston to New Jersey, Yao has been having a heck of a season, so far being relatively injury free (lets hope this won't jinx him) and having the best statistical season since the 07-08 campaign, which was cut short to just 55 games due to the foot injury he suffered midway through the Rockets' 22 game winning streak run. Yao is averaging career highs in ORPG, APG, SPG, and BPG while having a career low in turnovers with just 1.6 per contest. He's lifting his Nets to a great playoff berth and is truly deserving of the contract extension he desires to have at season's end.

Outside of the top 5
6. Brandon Roy, Portland Trailblazers
7. Tim Duncan, San Antonio Spurs
8. Gilbert Arenas, Washington Wizards
9. Tracy McGrady, Houston Rockets
10. Pau Gasol, Los Angeles Lakers

Nets Sign Anthony Parker
March 1st, 2010

Image
The New Jersey Nets have signed free agent guard/forward Anthony Parker for the rest of this season, Nets General Manager Toni Kukoc announced this morning.

Parker, 34, played in all 82 games (25 starts) in the 08-09 season for the Toronto Raptors and averaged 7.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists and 0.6 steals in 21.5 minutes per game. Parker has career averages of 9.2 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.5 apg, and 0.8 spg in 292 games played over his 7 professional seasons in the NBA.

“Anthony will be a solid addition to our roster. He is a very good, intelligent all-around basketball player,” Kukoc said. “Our coaching staff will especially appreciate the good shooting and solid defense that Anthony brings to our team. We feel that he's the boost we need, both in terms of stability and experience, heading into the playoffs."

Parker's deal is believed to be approximately 2.50 million. He is assumed to be starting at the two guard spot over Adam Morrison, who would be shifted to the three to backup Luol Deng.

New Jersey adds Mbenga to Roster
March 1st, 2010

Image
The New Jersey Nets have inked free agent forward/center Didier “DJ” Ilunga-Mbenga for the remainder of this season at the league's veteran minimum level of $959k. It was announced today by Nets General Manager Toni Kukoc.

Mbenga, a 7-foot, 220 pound native of the Congo, last appeared in a game in the 08-09 season for the eventual champions Los Angeles Lakers, he averaged 0.5 points per game and 0.6 rebounds per game over 3.1 minutes per game played off the bench in all 82 games for LA.

Nets waive Acie Law
March 1st, 2010

Image
The New Jersey Nets and guard Acie Law reached an agreement on a buyout on Tuesday and he has subsequently been waived.

The Nets acquired Law from the Oklahoma City Thunder in early January this season as part of the three team deal that involved Luol Deng's arrival to New Jersey.

Law has not played a game since being traded from the Hawks in the 08/09 season, and has only played 2 games in that season prior to that trade. He has played a total of just 58 career games (6 starts), all for the Atlanta Hawks, and has career averages of 4.1 ppg, 1.0 rpg, 2.0 apg, and 0.5 spg.

Great finish by Deng against the C's. (Y) So, you signed Anthony Parker one year into future or Mbenga and Law from the past? Not sure what season you are playing :P

corrected now, i am currently in the 09-10 season remember? :D
signed Parker, Mbenga
waived Law to clear out roster space and reduce the negative externalities that he has on the other guys lol

Parker's a great pick-up and is a great starting SG. Can't believe he was still a FA in March. :?

Yao gets first career triple double in return to Houston, lifts Nets over Rockets
Image

Houston, TX - Yao Ming was all smiles as he walked into the arena and received a prolonged standing ovation from the sold out crowd at the Toyota Center in Houston. The smile would remain throughout the night, as Yao records his first career triple double and lifts his New Jersey Nets to a 107-91 win over the Houston Rockets, the team which he started out his NBA career with and spent 7 seasons playing for until being traded unexpectedly to the Nets on the 5th of January 2009 for Brook Lopez, Yi Jianlian, Toni Battie, as well as a 2nd round pick.

The sold-out crowd of 18,300 all rose and cheered as hard as they could when Yao was introduced in the Nets' starting lineups, and it went on for more then 2 minutes, cut short only by the beginning of the lineup introduction of the Rockets. Yao then went over and embraced his former teammates, coaches, trainers, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey, as well as retired Rockets head coach Rick Adelman, former Rockets head coach and current ESPN broadcaster Jeff Van Gundy, as well as another former Rockets head coach Rudy Tomjanovich, who was Yao's first NBA head coach.

After all the greetings had been done, however, Yao went to work against his old team; ending the night with an impressive statline of 17 points, 13 rebounds, a career high 10 assists, as well as 3 blocks while shooting a very respectable 7 for 12 from the floor and going a perfect 3 for 3 from the charity stripe in 32 minutes of play. Yao achieves his first career triple double and was awarded with the Jordan Player of the Game honors.

"It's a special game," said Yao "I love this city, I love the organization, I love the fans. Playing back here is a very special thing for me"

Nets rookies Leo Lai and Patrick Mills added 17 and 16 points respectively off the bench, Lai also had 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Devin Harris dropped in 16 points and dished out 6 dimes of his own, and recent signing Anthony Parker had 14 points on 5 for 14 shooting. Power Forward Sean Williams added in 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks while Luol Deng had an all rounded, but sub-par performance of 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.

The Rockets were led by Aaron Brooks and Ron Artest, who had 23 and 21 points respectively, Brooks came off the bench for that performance while starter Rajon Rondo had 7 points, 8 assists, and 4 rebounds. Yi Jianlian recorded a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and also had 3 blocks and 3 steals in his 28 minutes of play. Tracy Mcgrady, however, had a sub-par performance with just 7 points and 7 assists, and shot a miserable 2 for 17 from the field; the same goes for Brook Lopez, who was contained by Yao all night long and only managed 8 points and 4 rebounds in 28 minutes.

haha, your Rockets dynasty was one of the all time greats, i can understand your feelings  (Y)

yeah they do, just look at Carter whenever he returns to Toronto lol, or that game between Harris and Kidd...Harris' 41 as well as Kidd's solid performance...
Lai surprised me with his 2-2 from beyond the arc, considering he is supposed to be a sub-par 3 point shooter (rating wise anyways...), but i guess anyone could knock down those wide open threes generated by double and triple teams on Yao....

Struggling Bucks fire Eddie Jordan, Hires Carlisle
March 19th 2010

Image
The Milwaukee Bucks have announced the firing of Head Coach Eddie Jordan earlier today.

The Bucks, despite drafting Spanish prodigy Ricky Rubio in the draft, are having another miserable season with a record of 24-43 thus far, sitting at the 13th place in the Eastern Conference, with seemingly no realistic playoff hopes left. Eddie Jordan, who was hired in the off season, replacing Scott Skilles, has thus been relieved from his position as the head coach.

The man replacing Jordan will be Cecil Carlisle, cousin of Maverticks head coach Rick Carlisle, he has no previous NBA coaching experience, but was previously a head coach in Europe.

"We've had another disappointing season, hopefully coach Carlisle can bring about positive changes to the team and bring out the potential that lies within these individuals" General manager John Hammond stated in the press conference "I have total faith in Coach Carlisle's abilities"

Nonetheless, the Bucks are heading towards the lottery, and all their hopes would now be rested on a few ping pong balls.
