Just said that Lee had a bad game because I don't see him getting 2 rebounds :P I expect him in a 10-10 game at least, but it's ok :P

Suns Snap Stealth Win Streak, Force Seattle To Season Low Team Score

Preview | Box Score | Recap

Image
Amare Stoudamire dominated in the post

21 January, 2010

PHOENIX (AP) – Amare Stoudamire was unstoppable as the home team, Phoenix Suns, cruised to an easy victory against the visiting Seattle Stealth. Seattle was on a five game winning streak before running out of steam in their latest game. Both teams struggled to score in the second quarter but it was Phoenix that rose out of the funk first and left Seattle behind in the dust.

Stoudamire finished the game with a double double of 17 points and 13 rebounds. He received able support from Leandro Barbosa, Nate Robinson, and Jason Richardson who scored 19, 14, and 12 points respectively.

However, the key to the Suns’ win was not their offence but rather their defense. The Suns held the Stealth to a season low 6 third quarter points. Phoenix were able to build a huge buffer entering the final quarter, outscoring their opponents by 22 points in the pivotal third period.

Plenty of blocked shots and turnovers hampered Seattle’s chances of extending their season-high five game winning streak to six. As the team ran into trouble in the second quarter, Seattle were unable to steer clear of more trouble as Jason Kidd dislocated his finger. Kidd tried to play on with the injury but was forced out of the game midway through the third.

“My shot wasn’t falling and I was sloppy with the ball,” Kidd was slouched in his chair in a postgame interview, “There was no point playing on. I hope the finger gets better quick though.” Kidd finished the game with 6 points and 6 assists. Kevin Durant and David Lee led Seattle with 16 points apiece.

The game ended with a sloppy final quarter as both teams emptied their benches onto the floor.

Notes: Seattle fell 6 games behind Denver for the top spot of their division… The crowd was buzzing after Stoudamire blocked David Lee twice on the same possession… Adam Morrison, who was scoreless off the bench, told media he was still seeking a route out of Seattle… Seattle scored a season low 62 points for the game. It was the least points Phoenix has held an opponent to all season…

Monthly Recap: January
Part One: Team Report, Results, League Standings

Monthly Recaps are divided into several parts in order to give readers a quick and organized overview. Part One of the Monthly Recap provides the league standings; divided into the two conferences. It also features the Seattle Stealth’s’ team report and schedule of games played in the last month (links are included to game recaps where applicable). Part Two will feature Player Statistics.

Team Report

Coach George Karl is not the first member of the Stealth to say it: that the team has been in this position before. As the middle of the season lies just ahead, Seattle once again finds themselves high in the Western Conference Standings after a surprisingly successful January. The team went 10-4 for the month, including some nail biting wins and heartbreaking losses.

The best win of them all would have been the one to end the month. An Adam Morrison jumper at the buzzer sent Nuggets fans into stunned silence and the Stealth closer to the mantle of being Division leaders. “We want that home court advantage for the playoffs,” Durant stated after the game against Denver, “We’re pretty close to achieving that.”

That’s when Karl told Durant to not get ahead of himself, “If I recall correctly, this is a similar situation as last season when the team suffered a breakdown in the second half of the season. I think we all need to take a breather and take it one game at a time.”

The veteran coach is correct; Seattle has shown that they can mix it with the best when they have a full and healthy squad but one must admit that the January schedule has proved favorable for the side. The second half of the season would be tougher and if Seattle is to make the playoffs, they will need to dig in deep especially with such an injury prone roster.

Jason Kidd, who dislocated his finger in a game against the Phoenix Suns just two weeks ago, reiterated on what his coach said, “We can’t treat it as if we are already there (in the playoffs), and we still have another two and a half months of games left. Anything can happen between now and the postseason.”

The month of January saw the addition of Sebastian Telfair and that move was followed by the team winning eight of their nine games since the move was completed. Make no mistake though as Telfair isn’t going to win games by himself but he has proven to be a valuable backup for Kidd, notching 7 points and 7 assists in both games that Kidd was hurt.

As the season begins to reach its most exciting stage, the playoff race where teams jostle to get in good positions, Seattle needs all of its role players to step up. The likes of Telfair, Adam Morrison, Jeff Green, Chris Wilcox all need to step up to support Kevin Durant, Jason Kidd, and Jeff Green. “It’s vital everyone supports each other the rest of the way,” Coach Karl states.

You really have a chance to have homecourt advantage at least in the first round, hopefully your team won't break down like last year... And man, my Sixers went down in the standings, but there is still roughly 3 months left, lots of time to win some games..

Monthly Recap: January
Part Three: Around The League

Monthly Recaps are divided into several parts in order to give readers a quick and organized overview. Part Three of the Monthly Recap is the ‘Around the League’ recap, which features transactions and other League news. Part Four will feature the All- :new: NLSC Rookie Focus!

Transactions

The New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets pulled off a blockbuster deal, involving six players and a draft pick. Vince Carter will bring his star power to the biggest stage on the planet as a new member of the Knicks. Although the Nets looked to be in the playoff hunt, management decided it was time to hand over the franchise to its young generation of stars. The exit of Carter means that the Nets’ fortunes lies on the shoulders of Yi Jianlian and Barney Steele. The first round draft pick acquired by New Jersey looks to be another piece of the Nets’ puzzle to rebuild their franchise. The expiring contracts of Jamaal Crawford, Wilson Chandler, and Jared Jeffries should open up salary cap room for the Nets to add to their young roster.

Carter had a brilliant debut game with the Knicks, scoring 38 points and grabbing 9 rebounds in a win against the Toronto Raptors. The star guard was not happy about being dumped by New Jersey but has not complained about the switch to play at the Garden. “I was a bit hurt about being traded but coming to New York means a lot. It’s going to be a lot of fun here,” the veteran stated.

After LeBron James recently reaffirmed his desire to stay with the Cavs beyond the current season, the Knicks decided they needed to acquire a player with ‘star’ status and the answer has seemed to be Half-Man, Half Amazing. Although the Knicks have not played any better since the acquisition of Carter; the Knicks are hoping to add another player before the trade deadline.

January Trades:

2 Jan – Raptors G R Ukic traded for Grizzlies G J Crittenton

Player Awards

Players of the Month Announce For January

LeBron James and Chris Paul were both awarded Player of the Month in their respective conferences. James is averaging 29 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 7.9 apg, 1.9 spg, and 1.1 bpg but his Cavs are only one game above .500. Paul looks like a hard player to beat for the League MVP as he has his team sitting atop the NBA standings. The league leading Hornets are receiving 23.1 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 10.9 apg, and 2.5 spg from their young leader.

Chara and Steele: Rookies of the Month

Moses Chara looks to be the likely Rookie of the Year as he took out his third straight Rookie of the Month award. Chara seems to have hit the much dreaded ‘Rookie Wall’ and has seen his numbers dip to 23.7 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 7.5 apg, and 1.6 spg. However, the cocky rookie is still confident of an All-Star Game appearance and being able to take home the silverware for the individual accolade of being the best rookie for the season.

Barney Steele, thanks to the trading away of Vince Carter, has been able to increase his offensive output over the past fortnight and is averaging double digits in points per game (10.0) for the first time this season. He is also adding an impressive 5.0 rpg and 7.5 apg for the 19-27 Nets; prompting fans to call him the second coming of Jason Kidd.

Seattle Stealth Looking To Add Extra Player

The Seattle Stealth still have their mid-level exception to use on a free agent and sources indicate that the team is looking at adding another guard to the playing roster. With the injuries to Jason Kidd slowing the team down, it appears that the team is set on signing former Seattle Sonic Flip Murray because of his ability to play both the shooting and point guard positons.

Other players that the team has looked at are defensive stoppers Trevor Ariza, Ruben Patterson, and sharp shooter Francisco Garcia.

Woot. James averaging more than 10 rebounds and he's not even C or PF. Amazing. He's a monster in your dynasty as he is in real.

I don't like Telfair over Watson. I just don't. Telfair is quick but seems injury prone and useless in D and scoring.

And as for the Nets, that's a good move. However, I would also consider trading Yi if they really want to improve their team. Or... even waive him. I'm just not a believer of him. what's his stats in your dynasty anyways. Maybe he's worth a starting PF?

They missed out on a bona fide star... you've closed the gap to Moses Chara as well. The ROY race could end up like Melo v Bron for you and Chara (two two oldies of the Draft btw)

Monthly Recap: January
Part Four: NLSC Rookie Focus

Monthly Recaps are divided into several parts in order to give readers a quick and organized overview. Part Four of the Monthly Recap is the NLSC Rookie Focus where one NLSC rookie is chosen to be presented to you, the reader, in order for you to get to know them better. Part Five will feature the All- :new: Team Focus.

Player Focus: Byron Brock

Image
Brock has great footwork for his size

# 5 | C | New York Knicks (16-32) |
7’2” | 265 lbs | Age: 21 | Georgetown |
2009 Draft | Round: 1 |Pick: 5 |

Position Rank: 19th
Overall Rank: 195th
Role: Starter
Agent: "I’m amazed with how happy you have made my client!"
09-10 Statistics: 8.8 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.9 bpg, 48 GP, 48 GS

When someone mentions the New York Knicks in passing, it’s hard not to think of Patrick Ewing. For years and years, the Knicks have seen plenty of big men join their playing roster. The majority of them were hyped as having the upside to one day lead the Knicks back into the playoffs. The long list now includes Byron Brock.

Brock’s size and ability to handle the rock is impressive. He uses his body well to box other players out and clean up the glass. He is still young but has the potential to develop into something great; even if that is what was said about all the other centers who have recently played at the Garden.

“I really think Byron is different,” one Eastern Conference scout has stated, “He has the right attitude and mindset. He works hard and doesn’t take anything for granted.” Brock landed in a good situation with the Knicks in rebuilding mode and in desperate need of a big man, Brock was chosen to act as an anchor for the team on the defensive end. On attack, the team tries it’s best to get the big man involved but the free-gunning style of the Knicks doesn’t show off Brock’s true strengths on attack; his low post game.

The rookie big has started every game this season for New York and his coaches have been impressed with his rebounding and shot blocking. He is scoring close to double figures every game, which is also encouraging. He still has plenty of work to do; including adding onto his fitness and also learning to score in a faster game than he has been accustomed to all of his life. His charity stripe skills could use some polishing up as well.

However, once he gets there, Gotham City might just have their future Hall of Fame Centre who might go one better than there other one; a championship.

NLSC Rookie Statistics

Byron Brock 8.8 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 0.4 apg
Mark Moore 13.8 ppg, 1.0 rpg, 4.2 apg
Martti Must 12.5 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 3.7 apg
Klemen Pirc 5.8 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 3.6 apg
Zoilo Resurreccion 10.7 ppg, 0.6 rpg, 8.3 apg
Andrew Watson 19.7 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 4.1 apg

TEAM REPORT

After Kevin Garnett was traded to the Boston Celtics in the summer of 2007, many believed that Al Jefferson would fill the void and big shoes Garnett left behind in Minnesota. Jefferson hasn’t flourished into the player many thought he would become, perhaps due to the style of play the Wolves employ, but the team is surprisingly competitive.

Seven players average double digit scoring for the Wolves who have become a very efficient shooting team. Mike Miller is averaging his highest points output since his 06-07 season with the Memphis Grizzlies at career high shooting percentages. Mike Bibby has also started to play like his old self while second year player Kevin Love does a little bit of everything and has improved his game from last season.

“I haven’t felt this good in so long,” Bibby, who was signed in the offseason, states, “Leaving Sacramento was tough for me and I didn’t have the best time in Atlanta but after working hard in the offseason and coming here to Minnesota, I have been playing a lot better.” Miller adds, “These guys really needed some leadership. Al is a great player and one day he will be a great captain but the team does need some guidance from Mike and I. Especially Mike because he’s gone through some battles in the past.”

Al Jefferson, one of the team’s captains, has no problem with deferring to his older team mates, “Whatever helps the team win, I’m all for it.”

That attitude has trickled down to the role players of the team and the work ethic shown by the older players has also been exhibited by the younger guys. Randy Foye and Rashad McCants have proved to be valuable and consistent contributors from a very weak bench. The duo are an instant scoring boost to the team whenever the starters come off the court. The two have become fan favorites with their ability to keep the score ticking and give their star backcourt a rest.

“That’s our job,” Foye says, “Both Mike’s need to rest because they’re old. Rashad and I can take over and help our team stay ahead. We don’t want to be the team’s Achilles Heel and let the other team get back into it just because our starting guards aren’t in the game.”

However, as good as the Wolves’ starting five plus Foye and McCants are; the Wolves need to add more depth to their roster. They currently lie in the middle of the playoff race but they will find it hard to advance further than the first round if they don’t find some better guys to fill out their bench.

Damn, I'm surprised that my numbers keep going up....I'd be ROY any other year, if Chara wasn't in the picture....if I'm going so well, how come I haven't won one ROM (Rookie of Month) award yet?!? I can't see anybody catching Chara....although given how shit the Kings are going & how well the Nuggets are going, I should really be getting more of a look in the ROY race :P

Yeah, a very blockbuster trade with the Nets! Hope that the CPU also make those kind of trades in earlier issues of live...BTW, I also strongly suggest youll get Ariza, Im also a fan of him, and he is capable of starting because he has leaps and rock defense... (Y) ...also, its kinda surprising that Minny is winning that much, adding Bibby to them in real life wouldnt really make a big difference...anyways, Great recaps as always!

Durant Scores Season High 50 In Comeback Win

Preview | Box Score | Recap

Image
Adam Morrison’s scores the last of his 13 fourth quarter points
with this bucket and in the process, holding the Blazers at bay

6 February, 2010

SEATTLE (AP) – Kevin Durant scored a franchise record 26 third quarter points, en route to his season high total of 50 points. However, Durant sat out for more than half of the final quarter and watched on as the Seattle bench took care of the Portland Trailblazers in a come from behind victory at home.

The game was a one sided affair as the Blazers led from the start. It was also a one-man effort for the Stealth as Durant single handily kept his side in the game for the first three quarters. Trailing by up to 14 points during the third period, Durant was in scintillating form. He scored from all over the basketball court; dropping 26 points to keep his side in the game. It was also his hot form that kept his team in the match up until halftime; he scored three consecutive buckets to prevent his side from entering the half trailing the visitors by double digits.

“Kevin just lit us up,” the injured Brandon Roy praised Durant, “I knew he was capable of that but his team mates weren’t playing that well so we thought we’d be safe this one night.”

Roy was wrong as Coach George Karl opted to take a gamble and kept Durant on the bench for the fourth quarter. Jeff Green, Sebastian Telfair, and Adam Morrison all hit three point shots to start the quarter. That effort allowed Seattle to take their first lead of the night at 89-86 and with 9 minutes remaining. From that point on, it was a team effort.

Morrison would go on to score 13 fourth quarter points to lead the Stealth; a trey with 1:32 left in the game put Seattle up 108-104. Brad Miller’s hook shot with 1:06 remaining countered Jerryd Bayless’ jumper. Durant, who only returned to the floor with 4:12 left in the game, had a fast break layup created by a Jason Kidd steal and Morrison assist that put Seattle up by 6. David Lee blocked Roy’s three point attempt with time winding down to seal the deal.

“It was a brave effort from our side tonight,” Karl spoke of his side, “I’m exceptionally proud of everyone. No one was hitting shots until the last quarter so kudos to Kevin for keeping us in the game. He is a true star.”

Morrison finished the match with 17 points, making up for a dismal start to the game in which he racked up three quick fouls and missed five straight shots. Kidd added 11 points but was not his true self as he racked up just 4 assists against 6 turnovers. Green had 10 points while Lee had a quiet offensive night finishing with just 8 points but did add 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Telfair picked up Kidd’s slack by dishing 8 dimes from off the bench.

Travis Outlaw led four other Blazers in double digit scoring. Outlaw had 26 while Steve Nash and Bayless added 19 apiece. Roy had 13 while Greg Oden was effective earlier in the game and finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Notes: Roy is suffering from a strained quad. Teammate Carlos Boozer has been out injured for the past few weeks also… Durant and Kidd were announced as All-Star Game reserves for the Western Conference All-Star Team… Bayless also scored 13 points and was a big reason the Blazers kept the game close…
