Lakers Fourth Quarter Comeback Falls Short

Mar 20, 2011

36-33 Los Angeles Lakers @ 35-33 Seattle: 119-120

SEATTLE (AP) – Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant put on a show, especially in the fourth quarter where Bryant and the Lakers clawed their way back into the game. Both stars finished with 30 points but it was Durant who had the last laugh as his buzzer beater helped Seattle to their eleventh straight home win.

“What a shot,” Jason Kidd said of Durant’s shot, “Unbelievable.” Durant, who added 7 rebounds and 4 blocks, hit the pull up jumper over Bryant as the buzzer sounded. Officials reviewed the play for over 10 minutes before stating that it was good. “We weren’t getting nervous there,” Andrew Bogut stated, “We never doubted whether it came off his hand in time.” Kidd had 15 points and 9 assists while Bogut also scored 15.

Andrew Bynum scored 21 points for the Lakers as Jordan Farmar added 14 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Rookie James Carter struggled and only finished with 3 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals.

Seattle Wins Thirteenth Straight Home Game

Mar 25, 2011

41-31 Los Angeles Clippers @ 38-33 Seattle: 93-115

SEATTLE (AP) – Thirteen did not prove to be unlucky for Seattle as the Stealth beat the Clippers and moved up the Western Conference standings into sixth place. The win meant that Seattle’s home record for the season increases to 27-10. The Clippers dropped 1.0 games behind the Golden State Warriors for the Pacific Division lead.

Seattle cruised home in a 29-14 fourth quarter. Kevin Durant led Seattle with 32 points, 9 rebounds, Reshawn Tyson added 25, Jason Kidd had 14 points, 16 assists, and David Lee finished with 11 points, 9 rebounds. Los Angeles was led by Amare Stoudamire and Ray Lliach. Stoudamire dropped 24 points along with 9 rebounds and rookie of the year candidate Lliach had 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists.

Huge Win Marred By Tyson Injury

Mar 28, 2011

40-33 Seattle @ 37-36 Orlando: 121-90

ORLANDO (AP) – Kevin Durant scored 34 points in his leading role in a drubbing of the Orlando Magic. Reshawn Tyson scored 23 points and added 5 rebounds, 6 steals. Rasheed Wallace chipped in 12 from off the bench. The Stealth’s win was their eighth consecutive one in a run which has them in strong contention for a playoff spot. Unfortunately, the win was marred by Tyson limping off the court during the second half.

Tyson was hurt in a mid air collision with Magic C/F Dwight Howard. He was assessed by team doctors after the game who ruled it as a strained groin injury; the starting SG for the Stealth is expected to miss up to 4 weeks.

Howard was once again held by Andrew Bogut and David Lee to just 8 points and 5 rebounds. Courtney Lee led Orlando with 20 while Rashard Lewis added 15 points and 7 rebounds.

Wolves Snap Stealth Eight Game Win Streak

Mar 30, 2011

40-34 Seattle @ 38-35 Minnesota: 107-110

MINNESOTA (AP) – The Minnesota Timberwolves knew that if they wanted to make the postseason, they would have to win a tightly contested game against the Seattle Stealth. The Wolves snapped a Seattle eight game winning streak on the back of a three point shot by Mike Miller to win the game. In the process, the Wolves moved 1.5 games ahead of the San Antonio Spurs for eighth place in the Western Conference.

Miller scored 23 points, including a high-arching triple to seal the win. Al Jefferson finished with 17 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and Mike Bibby had 15 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists, and 3 steals. Manfred Nissley had 2 points and 2 assists in limited court time from off the bench.

Playing without injured starter Reshawn Tyson, Kevin Durant led Seattle with 31 points. Rasheed Wallace scored 16 from off the bench, Jason Kidd contributed 10 points, 7 rebounds, 10 assists, and David Lee had a double double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.

I don't think Ty's injury will trouble you too much, unless the loss to Minnesota is something to go by. :? Raja should fill the spot nicely, now continue that home streak! :)

Stealth, Nuggets In Close Affair

Preview | Box Score | Recap

Image
Durant dunks; all the Nuggets could do was stare

31 Mar, 2011

DENVER (AP) – In the team’s second outing without the injured Reshawn Tyson; the Seattle Stealth overcame the Denver Nuggets in a nail biting finish. Playing the second of back to back away games, Seattle were lackluster in the opening stages of the game but Kevin Durant made sure his team would have a fighting chance.

Denver opened the game with a 13-4 run but Durant led his side back into the match with an incredible 19 straight points; a culmination of 4 steals and plenty of deflections in the first quarter. Durant found plenty of methods to score including reverse layups, pull up jumpers, posting up, and a big three pointer. “Durant was in his own little zone,” Head Coach George Karl said, “When he gets hot like that, he just takes over.” Durant’s pull up mid range jumper with 0.5 seconds left put his team up by 2 points at the end of the first quarter.

Denver changed its strategy and implemented a double team on Durant for the rest of the game. That did not stop him reaching 42 for the game, including 11 points in a decisive final quarter display. Durant’s 7 clutch points in the final two minutes of the game helped his side pull off a win. “This guy is the best scorer right now,” Carmelo Anthony admitted, “He was just unstoppable.”

Durant had to change his own game plan once the double teams came his way as the Nuggets swarmed him every time he touched the ball, “I couldn’t get an open look and I didn’t have any room to move. I had to get my guys involved.” Luckily for the Stealth, Durant’s team mates stepped up as Rasheed Wallace scored 14 from off the bench and Trevor Ariza rattled for an exciting 7 points in which he had two thunderous jams. David Lee scored 21 points over the second, third, and fourth quarters.

The Nuggets were unlucky as Andrew Watson had to sit out as he quickly picked up his fourth personal foul early in the second and Antonio McDyess seemed to have dislocated his shoulder halfway through the second period. Despite their losses, Denver was able to keep close with the Stealth and the teams finished the third period just one point apart.

The fourth quarter was one that saw many lead changes. With less than 3 minutes left, Seattle were up by 4 but a series of missed shots by Jason Kidd and Andrew Bogut led to a fast break opportunity in which Chauncey Billups was able to take advantage of. Bogut made a silly turnover and Watson drained a three from the right wing to put Denver up 86-87 with 2:19 remaining.

The lead did not last long as Durant drew a double team at the top of the key and deftly dished the rock to Lee who was wide open underneath the hoop. Lee’s easy two points put Seattle up 88-87 with 1:59 remaining. Raja Bell came up with a steal on the other end and pushed the ball up the floor and passed the ball to Durant. Without thinking, Durant whipped a no-look pass to Lee on the elbow and the PF calmly sank a jumper to push the score to 90-87.

Seattle had a chance to make their lead bigger as Kenyon Martin fumbled the ball due to the pressure and missed an easy shot but Durant returned the favour as he threw the ball off of Bogut’s back. Watson then scored a tough layup in traffic with 1:16 left to pull the Stealth lead back to 1.

A Stealth timeout resulted in a horrendous play in which Kidd somehow managed to stray backcourt. The Nuggets then called their own timeout and drew up a play for Billups. ‘Mr Big Shot’ found himself open along the right baseline and launched a three that missed. Durant grabbed the miss and pushed the ball up but was surprisingly blocked by Watson as he pulled up for a two. With the ball going down the other way, the Nuggets were able to get Watson out on the three point line wide open. Just like Billups, Watson’s shot fell short of its target. Then Durant would not make the same mistake twice as he cold heartedly sank a long baseline two over the shorter Watson with 42.6 seconds left, Seattle up 89-92.

The Nuggets called timeout and drew up a play for Watson. The New Zealander’s three point attempt took a bad bounce and went over the backboard. Watson looked disappointed as he slowly walked back to the other end of the floor, later saying, “If I hit that shot, it would have tied the game and maybe we could have won.”

Kidd tried to shave as much time off the game clock as he could and in the process spotted Durant at the top of the key. A nifty pass caught the Nuggets’ defenders off guard and Durant had just enough daylight between his defender and himself to launch a three. His triple gave his side a 95-89 lead with 16.9 seconds left. After Watson missed another open jumper on the other end, Durant went on to ice the game with two free throws with 11.9 seconds left. Billups had a floater as time wound down but that was no consolation as Seattle crept closer to the Nuggets in their division.

Watson, who finished with 19 points, walked off the court in a hurry and was closely followed by captain Carmelo Anthony. Anthony had an unusual game, finishing with just 10 points and 7 assists. Billups finished with 12 points and 15 assists. Nene had a season best 22 points while grabbing 12 rebounds.

Notes: The Stealth look like they are safe from elimination from the postseason. They now lie three games behind the Nuggets for second place in the teams’ division. Denver also shapes up as a possible playoff opponent in the first round as the Stealth are sixth and the Nuggets are third… Durant’s 42 points made this game his fifth 40+ point game of March… Reshawn Tyson is sidelined for up to a month with a strained groin injury. The team is hoping to rush him back in time for the playoffs…

The X will be a bit gutted that Durant led Seattle past Denver. Actually, I think he will not be happy to hear that Durant dunked on him as well in the game... but he did block Durant's three pointer. haha

Disappointing loss. Surprised that so many plays were drawn up for me at the end. Guess Melo was stinking it up. Need more from him if we are to win against a quality Western Conference foe. Glad I blocked Durant. Don't know why I was guarding him but glad I "dominated" him :P

Hopefully we can regain some momentum heading into the playoffs.

I don't think I can get the title. Sorry man. :P But I will try... because in Feb, I did not expect my team could make playoffs and now it looks like we can... seeding will be crucial though. I don't wanna play number 1 seed Portland... they too good... Denver is beatable... Clippers are interesting... Warriors also... some good intriguing and possible match ups!

You didn't really dominate him. Sorry man. :P That block was very surprising... Durant pump faked, hesitated too long, and you got up pretty high. I was pretty shocked... that last three was against you too. Yeah, Melo with 10 points is not going to do the job.

But guys, no Ty, no problems!
